I am as confused as before I spoke to her!
She said DL can not make any advisories, but DL is not in danger at this time, but you could get stuck if you fly in. What does that mean? She said that's what they are telling people. Huh??? I asked her if the roads are closed, she said not all of them but traffic is very heavy. She said the other amusment parks had been evacuated but not DL. Not very helpful, but I understand her situation. She cant tell me "YES COME" or "NO STAY HOME".

I dont think I want to go tomorrow...
What are the rest of you "THIS WEEK" people doing?

As a Katrina-displaced person, having lived through that, I can promise you that a disaster and evacuation of this scope, it will not be fun to vacation around it. There are so many displaced families and the tension will be very high. I can imagine services like hotels, rental cars, restaurants, flights, etc. could quickly get overwhelmed if they aren't already.

I know people there have been posting that it's not affecting them much, but if you have a choice to stay away from the region, I sure would.

Knotts, Universal, and DL are all open.

Currently, LAX is reporting minimal delays of 15 minutes or less for both incoming and outgoing flights. (Except for outgoing flights to JFK, which are experiencing delays of 1 hr 15 minutes.)

Traffic condition maps are showing fairly smooth conditions except for one accident on I-5 north of Anaheim. (Of course the roads in the immediate areas of the fires are closed, but these areas are not in the city of LA or Anaheim).

However, in San Diego, all themeparks are closed due to heavy smoke and winds (Legoland always closes on Tues and Weds during the off seasons). People are being asked to stay off all roads if at all possible to allow open access for firefighters and emergency personnel.

We are still planning on going Thursday night for the weekend.

The winds are supposed to die down some this evening, so conditions tomorrow should be improved. I would still go to DL if I were you. You've got the trip planned and all. If you were planning on visiting other areas (like Magic Mountain or the San Diego theme parks), just spend time at the beaches near DL instead. It'll be nice and uncrowded at the parks!

Also, the area around DL is so compact that you don't really have to worry about stuff like traffic, etc, if you're staying nearby. Once you get there, you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

Oh no, I sold our unused tickets on e-bay. The family is suppose to be there this week. I hope this doesn't come back to bite us in the rear. I am worried that she won't go on the trip and want a refund for the tickets.

Its not your fault that their are fires. That is the chance you take by purchasing on Ebay IMO. I dont think you would owe anyone a refund. But that IMO. Hope the fires settle down and the smoke and ash goes away.

Helpful map .

That fire right above the Mexican border, that's the one about 1/4 mile from my brother's house. That's when I would be worried, if the fires were getting that close to DL. Or if you're flying into San Diego.

I would cancel a SD portion of a trip, but I wouldn't cancel Disneyland. Too far away.

BUT since I get asthma, I would think about a mask of some kind, if the dust from the winds got too high for me to deal with.

There is no immediate fire danger in Anaheim. It is windy (so no fireworks) and the air smells like smoke from other fires nearby. That should all lesson when the wind dies down, which as a previous poster indicated, is forecast for this afternoon. Traffic has not been significantly affected in the Anaheim area. I would say it took me 5-10 minutes longer to get to work today, but I also was on the road 2 hours later. As far as I know, none of the local airports are having significant delays.

We live about five miles from the Santiago Fire. Other than possibly some smoke and ash in the air depending upon the wind direction, you can go to Disneyland and not even know there is anything going on. The fires are all in areas close to wilderness areas and Disneyland is not close to any such area. There is a good chance any fireworks will be canceled due to wind. Such cancellations are common at Disneyland.

A smokey day at Disneyland during the 2003 Southern California brush fires.

We were there during the 2003 fires, I remember it looking like that! Everyone had medical face masks on! It was really smokey, but no fires near DL. I wouldn't cancel a trip at this point.

Jenn, I wonder if I'm your buyer! LOL If I am no worries, we are still going and I would never dream of asking you to refund the tickets!! I wouldn't ask Disneyland to refund them, why would I expect you to? :) I really am wondering if I'm your buyer.......:rotfl:

I would go, just remember they expect wed/thurs to get the onshore flow back, and expect all the smoke to come back that has been pushed out toward the ocean, so it may seem smokier the next couple of days. . . you may have absolutely no lines while your there! I'm kind one of the fortunate ones in that i'm in a good area this time around, last time we had to evacuate, this time our air has been pretty good, had some bad air last night and this morning, but this afternoon we are good. I think if you are healthy person, no asthma or borderline asthma you should be fine, just grab some masks that filter the air you breathe in just in case the air quality is POOR.

That would be too funny!:goodvibes

I'm unsure what we are going to do. We leave for DL next Wednesday, and I'm not worried about that, but on the 6th we have plans to drive to San Diego for another 5 days and I don't know what I should do.

Should I try and extend my DL trip, and cancel San Diego completely, or wait and see what it looks like in a week?

LOL Pixie, I sold to some girl in CO. I wanted to direct her over here to this board though.

Psssst Because of e-bay I was able to keep our trip below $1000. Not to bad for a spur of the moment trip.
Jen

they have been able to get the planes up for water drops and the helos for water drops today, much more than yesterday. as for coming to san diego next week, I would say right now all hotels are sold out because of the fires, they are letting some people back into their communities, but right now they are stating approximately 1000 homes destroyed, here are our local new station sites:
www.kfmb.com
www.sandiegochannel.com
www.nbcsandiego.com

kfmb seems to have a pretty updated decent list.

all of san diego city school district is closed the rest of this week.

I do not want to say no don't come here, but right now may not be the best of time. just keep yourself posted and go from there. . .

Hey, I ended up in another Dis'ers picture, so it IS a small world! :)

Personally, even though it's 2 weeks from now, I would probably extend DL rather than go and try to have a good time in a recently fire-damaged place. Even assuming it's all over soon, I would imagine the zoo, safari, and SeaWorld animals would still be acting strangely, the hotels still might be booked up, I think it would just be too soon. But that's just me.

We decided to wait until tomorrow and decide then. If things get any better, or even if theyd ont get worse I think we'll go. We had to cancel our trip in May due to stomach flu all around... it would be hard on the kids to cancel again, but we will if we have to. Safety first.

Well wishes to all.
