I got the link from moneysavingexpert.com

It's quite worrying if it's true! I'm hoping the money I'm owed comes soon so I can change it. I don't think I could take the risk of not changing.

What do you think? Am I (hopefully) panicking for nothing or am I right to be worried?

Interesting forecast but a disturbing one, I remember the exchange rate being about 1.50 back in 1998. I think if you have the cash I would change it now or when you get it, then at least you know you have got a good rate because remember though the exchange rate is shown the actual one you get in banks, m & s, etc is usually quite a few pence lower again.

That's what I was thinking too. Fairfx is 1.90 at the minute. Hopefully it'll hold on for the week before it goes down!

Knowing my luck I'll put my money on at the end of the week, then it'll shoot up again lol.

Still, 1.90 is still a fantastic rate. My local post office is offering just above 1.80.

Not quite, we all know the weather is going to be cack all summer here! lol!

I bought my first £1000 at $2 to the £1 about 10 months ago and my second £1000 at $1.97 about 8 months ago.

When I work out the cost of things in the States I work it out at $1.95 to the £1 so if the dollar goes down below that then I have extra pennies to spend!

this is in line with the current global currency predictions...
it's not just the pound that's finally weakening against the dollar...
all currencies are currently falling against the dollar..

it's good for me, since my pay is linked to the dollar (though i'm paid in foreign currency).....over the past year or two i've lost over 30% of my income due to the weakening dollar...
the dollar started climbing again about 2 weeks ago and i've been dancing in the street ever since...well...not exactly dancing in the street, but hopeful that i'll regain some of my lost income.....

the explanations for these currency predictions? global recession....
the world finally came to the realization that if the US catches a cold, the rest of the world can end up with pneumonia..
there is so much (inexplicable to me) hatred of the US that people were just so happy to see america tanking that they forgot that it will ultimately affect them...

Darn it! 188.50 now. Suppose it's good new for the money I already have on the card.

It'll probably be best for me to use that as spending money and pay the rest of the holiday in pounds instead.

Beth, it's going down very quickly, where do you think it will end? Do you think that prediction is right?

I'm buying our currency later today, probably from Travelex so I can pick it up from Liverpool airport departures as their rate is the best of the 'brick and mortar' places right now. I think people were kidding themselves thinking the 1.90+ rate was going to last forever though.. I remember in 2002 the rate was something like 1.50, not ideal but we managed :)

i have no idea....
i would guess that based on current conditions, that's a good prediction...

but the world is an ever changing place....things are happening all the time...
so who can possibly really know....
something could happen tomorrow that completely changes that prediction...

Just ordered my T/C from Travelex @ $1.8621, I can only see the rate getting worse over the next week or so, just wish I had the cash to get them a couple of months ago when they were at $2, but thats life, not too keen on the pre paid credit card thing although the rate is slightly better but I like to see my cash/TC :rotfl:

Hi

Has anyone used Travel Money Services ? Looks like if you order now for November which is when we are going the rate is better but it's a gamble I might buy at that and it might go up HELP !!!1:confused3

hi

been phoning around as we are getting ours later today. the best rate we got was with altham travel agents they offered 1.91 :thumbsup2

This is a major pain in the behind as we will be booking our Disney wedding in October (earliest we can do it due to their booking timescales) and we'll have to put down our deposit then when the rate has gone pap.

Not impressed :sad2:

And then we'll have the whole balance to pay off sometime next Summer :scared1:

You have to pay a monthly fee to get a US dollar account from all those I've seen, does anyone else have any suggestions as to how we can convert some money into dollars that we can send to Disney for payment in a couple of months time?

I wonder if they have a holding account or anything??
