That had to have been one of the best concerts I have ever been to. I've been listening to Voctave for a few years and have been wanting to see them live.
For those who don't know, Voctave is an a cappella group from Florida who specializes in, among other things, covering music from Broadway musicals, Christmas songs, and Disney. They're a bit different as they don't have a beat boxer so they take on a more choir/choral sound, which I absolutely LOVE.
Anyway, I finally had the chance to see them live as they came to a nearby town. Bought tickets MONTHS ago so I've been anxiously waiting ever since.
To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about hearing them live because, in my experience, hearing music artists or groups live just doesn't compare to their studio recordings--which makes sense because studio recordings are in controlled environments and edited quite a bit. Usually, in live performances, there's always something that sounds just a tad off, for lack of a better term (I'm not musically educated).
But folks, they absolutely blew me away. They didn't sound off at all and they were just... perfect. They had a lot of charisma and great stage presence well--I was thoroughly engaged throughout. Then, the icing on the cake, was their encore. The entire concert, they were amplified--so one could say that they have a great sound engineer (which they do); however, that encore was unplugged and they sounded heavenly. I was just SMDH the whole time at how amazing they sound.
My boyfriend thought they were a bit too sweet or bright, which I agreed--they are on the saccharine side of musical tone, but I LOVE that tone lol! To me, it encompasses what Disney is to me.
(Nerd Alert) I immediately thought of one of my favorite Star Trek scenes from DS9 in a conversation between Quark and Garak when Quark had Garak (both non-humans) try an Earth drink, "root beer." Upon first sip, Garak exclaimed, "It's vile!" Quark responds, "I know. It's so bubbly. And cloy. And happy." Then conversation eventually went with Quark saying, "You wanna know what's really frightening? If you drink enough of it, you be begin to like it." Garak remarks, "It's insidious." Quark replies, "Just like the Federation." (see clip here:
) Honestly, kind of a parallel to Disney and the style of Voctave. Now I just need to expose him to more of it and he's gonna love them just as much as I do lol! (End Nerd Alert).
If you haven't seen them yet, you should check out their YT Channels and socials. They do some AMAZING work.
