When I got home from work yesterday, there was a solo lovebug hanging out by the front door - so they are just starting. I was really hoping they would wait a couple weeks, but maybe we'll get lucky and it will be a light batch.

If you haven't been around them much, they are really attracted to all things white - so I try not to wear any white clothing.

How long do they last? We are coming in last week of May, and am curious if we will have to deal with them.

My opinion is that love bugs are way overblown. They are a nuisance at worst in my opinion. You may choose to eat indoors if they are out in force, otherwise they are harmless.

I saw some in Tampa before our 4/12 NCL Dawn cruise. They were flying around conjoined and I thought "Those must be the infamous Florida Love Bugs!".

Completely agree!

Down here in south Florida they are out, not quite full force yet but I have a feeling it is going to be a heavy year.

They are definitely coming out more and more. We live in East Orlando and they are currently crawling all over our porch and front windows! I agree, they are just annoying and thankfully they only last a few weeks.

I think I would prefer them over the stink bugs we deal with here! (Or do you have those in FL too?)

The worst part is having to wash the car every single day until they are gone. But if it's a heavy year, they can get annoying at WDW around the pools and bus stops, where there is a lot of white. I was there one September a few years ago during a very heavy year, and you couldn't sit on any white benches because they were just covered in crawling bugs. They were also pretty annoying at the beach a couple years ago - they were solid on the sliding balcony doors about three feet up. I couldn't use the balcony at all.

At least they don't bite!

That will explain why they bug us more in the first few days than further into the trip .... our lily white legs :rotfl: I shall remember to spray tan before this trip. I didn't know that, so you've told me something new.

The only time we've really noticed them is sitting out around the pool. Never seen any indoors and except for once at DHS just before a storm when they were everywhere, I don't think we've noticed them in the parks at all.

DGS,6 has a fear of flying bugs-he thinks they are all bees or wasps. So yesterday I was trying to prepare him for the love bugs. I explained that there were a lot of them, but they won't hurt you.

So then he asked me why they are called love bugs...that caught me off guard-I just told him because they were nice bugs :confused3:rotfl:

Am I crazy for saying that, having grown up in FL and now living in TX, I actually miss love bug season and was a little disappointed that we missed it when we were there last month :confused3? Even though I know it means washing your windshield/grill every single day and sometimes multiple times a day, I kind of miss those little critters!
