I just got home from seeing "Miracle," and I absolutely loved it. Even though I knew how it ended, I got a little teary eyed watching it. It's just so amazing to see what these guys went through to accomplish what they did. I was only eight years old in 1980, so I don't really remember them winning, but I've seen the footage of Jim Craig skating around with the American flag around him, and Mike Eurizione is one of those great Boston sports legends around here.
I really started to get into hockey in the early 80's, and some of my favorite NHLers were on that team (as well as on the other teams that played in the Olympics that year). I always loved Neal Broten and Dave Christian. David Silk was one of my favorite Bruins players (and one of my first childhood crushes). I have a very vivid memory of going to a Bruins game as a kid, and watching David Silk headbutt another player.
Another name that caught my attention was the goalie for the Swedish team--Pelle Lindbergh, who played for the Flyers until his death in a car accident in 1985. My friend Bobby and I idolized Pelle, and used to pretend to be him when we played road hockey. I remember reading about his death in the paper, and Bobby and I were both devestated. Pelle's blood alcohol content was over twice the legal limit, and his death had a huge impact on me--from that moment, I vowed that I would never drink and drive. I learned something from his death, and Lindbergh in that movie, reminded me of how promising he was as a player.
Anyways, that's a long enough tangent there. NHAnn, we really must plan a Boston area Miracle meet. I want to see it again, and it would be fun to see it with some hockey loving DISers
