Another "I just gotta vent" post here.......

DH and I just saw King Kong. Now, I think it's pretty safe to say that most people who reside in the US & are over 20 years old have a basic "gist" of this movie, and are fully aware of the ending. DH and I are in our 40's and have seen both the 1933 and 1976 versions of this movie, so we knew what was going to happen.

That being said, I could not believe all the parents who brought little kids to see this movie! I mean LITTLE kids...like between the ages of 3 - 7! Needless to say, all of whom were sobbing throughout the last half hour of the movie.

What is wrong with people?? I'm no rocket scientist, but I have enough brains to know that kids in that age group would be traumatized by a movie like Kong.

People just never cease to amaze me... :faint:

Why would you take a kid to a movie that is over 3 hours long? What are some of these parents thinking?

I've seen the 1933 version, but not the 1976. I still knew what was gonna happen.

When I went to see it, we sat right in front of a "talker". and not a very intelligent talker either. Both her and her husband were like, "well now, I wonder what he's gonna do now!?" in a very loud, very annoying, in awe voice. It was like that through the whole movie. everything that ran through their minds went out their mouths.

The children in the theater were quieter than these two. Actually, the children were asleep or something. bearly a peep through the whole movie. One little girl started crying (I think she was a baby, I dunno) around the scene with the natives attacking. but her mother took her outside.

so in my experience, the children were good, the adults were loud and annoying.

We went to King Kong last night and both DH and I have seen the original (not the 70's version though).

There were two women in the audience that laughed through the ENTIRE movie! UGHH! I know there were some funny lines. What really got me was when she bust out laughing at

"It was beauty that killed the beast". Not funny.

I've never seen either of the old movies so I don't know what happens and I didn't know it was 3 hours, so as long as it's not PG-13 or above, if we went to the movies and DS5 asked to see it, I'd let him. I guess that makes me ignorant though because I actually don't know anything about it.

Well I didn't know much about the movie either when I went to see it. I'm probably ignorant too.

That being said, I agree that parents shouldn't take kids 3-7 to see this movie when it's rated PG-13 to begin with!!

But it IS rated pg-13 and it's very deserving of that rating.

I've never seen either of the previous versions and have no idea how it ends. :confused3 But, I still wouldn't take my small children to see it.

But why not learn about it? If your child asks to see a movie, you don't make any effort to find out what it's about? Even PG rated films might have some content you don't approve of. It doesn't take much more than a quick internet search to get plenty of reviews of a film.

Based on the commercials for Kong, I knew it wasn't something my kids would enjoy or that I would want them to see.

That being said, I took my 5 year old twin boys to see King Kong. ( I wasn't keen on the idea but my dh argued that at least my other two (dd 16 and ds 13) would not be bored out of their minds). We prepared them for what they would see and that it was ENTERTAINMENT, not for real. I was prepared to leave with them whenever.

1. They watched the entire thing. I had to go to the bathroom before either of them did. One of them got a little sleepy, but he just cuddled with his big brother and stayed awake.

2. No tears, no fears, no nightmares after. One thought that the dinosaurs was funny, because he knew it wasn't real.

So, please don't judge me because I took my sons to see King Kong. We had a great family night, and I am always cognizant of what is good for my children and I think I know better than you what they can handle.

Wonder if we were in the same theater?? I went to see it with DS 9.5 last night. When choosing a seat, we tried to avoid those close to all the tiny kids who were brought there. DS tried to choose a seat right in front of a BABY. And I said (not quietly) "no way, dude, that kids gonna blow within the hour!"

That said, the freaking teenagers weren't a whole lot better. We now try to find the most elderly people in the theater and we sit with them.

See, that's the point. You had a game plan going in. You were prepared to leave if need be. And....you had prepared your littles beforehand. All the right things.

DS is 8, and pretty sensitive. Any movie we think is 'iffy' either DH or I will see first, and then make the decision on whether to take him, or wait til it's out on DVD. The new Harry Potter is the latest. We're waiting.

I wouldn't take him if it was rated PG-13, unless it was something I had seen first and knew it was okay. So, no, I wouldn't have taken him. But i didn't know what it was rated.

My friend recently went to see a screening of "The Exorcist" the orignal one. Said there was a dad in there with a 10 year old girl. I'm 26 and freaked out by that movie!

If we were at the theater, not knowing what to see and DS wanted to see it, if it was PG, I'd go. I don't make a habit of reasearching every movie. Normally we know what we are going to see and I know about the movie, but I don't not let him watch a movie if I don't know about it.

We took our DS (7 1/2) to see it. He did cry at the end, but so was I so it may have been sympathy crying (I always cried if my mom did). He's seen all 3 LOTR movies on video.
What was scarier for me, and made me cover his eyes, was the trailer for "Final Destination 3"! I guess they figure one PG-13 movie is as good as another, but that trailer was way too violent and gross for my taste.
As a side note, I did see one family leave the theatres, 3 boys about 5,7,9, two of them crying. The dad went up to the box office and got his money back! I don't know what they were watching--possbily crying over Narnia, or Kong, or what (didn't look like a Kong type of family though, but about 7 movies were showing at the multiplex) but if they saw something so upsetting that 2 of the kids were crying, they should have done a little more research rather than asking for their money back.

Never saw any of the old movies and have no interest to see this one. A huge ape climbing a tall building isn't exactly what I'd find interesting or my cup of tea. :confused3

How it got classified as a 12 (PG-13) I'll never know - it struck me as quite violent in certain parts and very graphic.
