Just rocked a deal on a Mac!

Gotta love tax free weekend. I just bought a new Macbook pro and got a good deal (at least as good a deal as I'm ever going to get on a mac, since they don't have "sales"). My old one has been making death rattles for the last couple of months and I've been nursing it a long to get to tax free weekend.

The computer was originally $2200. I bought it refurbed and saved $330. Then I saved the $171 on tax. I bought it using my Disney Rewards visa, so that's another $19 for the disney trip in Oct. (and I always pay off the CC every month, so no interest). Finally, I'll get about $18 cash back from the shopping site I used. Total savings: $538. That's as good as it's ever going to get in Mac Land.

The apple store sells refurbished computers at their site. You have to scroll down to the bottom of the main page and on the left is a link to"Special deals" or similar. These are computers that were returned for whatever reason, thoroughly fixed and retested and then sold. They can't be sold as "new," even though in many cases they are brand new.

I've always bought refurbed mac computers and they've always been as good as new and never given me any trouble. I've always thought it's because they get a lot more testing done than new computers that come right off the line.
