We just spent a week at the Poly in Aotearoa 3rd floor with a great view of the monorail. We checked in at 6:30am and were given a choice of that room or 2nd floor in Rarotonga or 1st floor Niue. I wish now based on location to pool and laundry we had choosen one of the others. That being said it was not a long walk but with a 15 yr old and 2 under 2 it was a challenge at times.

The room upon checkin appeared clean except for dirty cups and a leftover dolewhip. Oh and the dirty washclothes that appeared to be kids disney washclothes. The bellman was in the room when my 15 yr old was pointing these items out to me and offered to have us moved but I insisted it was not a big deal as long as the linen was fresh and bathroom clean. The linen appeared clean but the long brown hairs in the bathtub resulted in the room being cleaned that day. A bit dissappointing but I was still happy...... I was at Disney. Later that day we decided to shower, the tub was draining so slow we had to wait 30 minutes in between showers. I mentioned this to the gentleman who brought extra hangers and I called. This is day 1. On Day 3 the tub still had not been addressed. I was getting irritated at this point. But it would become worse. We returned on Day 3 from the pool and I was going to start a bath for my 2 yr old daughter I happened to start the water before I engaged the stopper. What appeared to be feces came up. I promptly called maintance again. They arrived and stated this maybe a plumbing problem and went into look. She came out and said the tub was stopped up with hair and it was fixed. Okay where where did the feces come from? She didn't know, no offer to have housekeeping come scrub the tub.....nothing. Granted I wasn't really trusting their cleaning at this point. I went to wal-mart and stocked up and cleaned that tub like it hadn't been cleaned since installation. So although housekeeping and maintance were very friendly I found their job performance.....lacking.

Staff in general were very friendly, with one exception, the staff at Capt Cooks should all go back to Mickey school. Helen would be the first one on the bus.

The grounds and pool area were beautiful.

Will I stay again, I'm not sure the tub incident was enough to really gross me out. The lack of concern was even more frightening. Did I contact management, no. I felt I could and would clean it better than anyone there. I do however intend to send a carefully worded letter to management concerning the tub incident. For those that will ask why didn't I address it while I was there....quite frankly it would have taken valueble time away from my vacation and there was nothing they could do to fix my dissappointment. I think alot of p[eople complain to get something and I didn't want to be viewed as one of those people. I just think they need to do some tweaking. All in all we had a great trip but it is not likely we will return to the Poly anytime soon.

Why do I get the feeling you are making too much out of this? I have been there the same time of year you have for 5 straight years and nothing you mentioned ever seem to be happening when we are there?

Oh Man for that Kind of Money per Night I would have Flipped out!
That was Gross and should have not been tollerated.

So sorry you had such a bad experiance.

Thanks for sharing!!

I feel bad for you I am sure that trip cost a pretty penny. But I would have complained and asked to be moved. That would have been the only way to truely deal with the problem. We had similar issues at BC and will not return there. So it can happen to anyone; but we did complain and were moved on day 2 or our 7 day trip and everything was fine after that. It is definately OK to express your concerns. I hope you get some sort of satisfaction.

We also just back and I will post my review and some pics later. Sorry you had a less then good stay. I agree the grounds and the pool are gorgeous but the housekeeping is awful. My DD and I had to dust the entire room and clorox wipe the bathroom too. They changed our sheets only once after I left a note. We tipped everyday BTW and it didn't seem to help. I love the Poly and most of the staff was great. Our only problem was how dirty our room was. We even changed rooms and it wasn't much better. Both rooms were in Samoa. The tub would have grossed me out enough to change hotels. Moving doesn't always help unless you switch resorts.

I don't think the OP was making too much out of it. Just the opposite, in fact. I actually think she was downplaying it! Just because, in your 5 visits, it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it doesn't ever happen.

That's too bad, SnowWitch, that you had to take time out of your vacation to go to Walmart and buy cleaning supplies to do your own cleaning! I hope management takes your letter seriously and scrutinizes the housekeeping procedures better. :goodvibes

This is why I carry a small bottle of Lysol spray and Lysol wipes. I've never had a problem such as this though and would have definitely called housekeeping as many times as it took to get it cleaned. We were at the Poly in September and other than some dusting that wasn't done, our room was very clean. I still lysol wipe the remote and telephone as soon as I get in the room.

OMG that would have grossed me out enough to switch rooms, I would have been livid!!!!

can a small can of lysol and wipes be brought on a plane? we are not planning to rent a car so a trip to walmart is out.

I think SnowWitch was trying to get on with their vacation and have a wonderful time without making too big a deal out of the room issues. It is great that you are writing to guest communications about the issues. You have far more patience than I would have in the same situation!!

Housekeeping manager would have been in the room to be sure everything was taken care of properly and if this happened to us now, would change rooms, even resorts if necessary.. Sometimes when we look back we might have done it differently.

We had a similar situation at POP in 2004 - the room was disgusting and the bathroom beyond gross. After several calls to housekeeping, a manager was sent up. I wanted to change resorts (first time in a value), but he convinced me to let housekeeping clean the room and set us up for "VIP Housekeeping" for that stay and a future stay.

The room was better, but part of the worst issue was missed. I was too tired to deal with housekeeping again, so next day bought clorox and cleaned it myself to save the hassle of changing rooms or resorts. Looking back, would not do that again.

One thing we are absolutely entitled to is a clean room - and if it does not meet the cleanliness ratings then should be reported. Disney has been sited by the state of Florida for room cleanliness issues: there should not be dust on any furniture, drawers should be clean (no little hairs left behind) and the bathrooms should be sparkling (okay not their words!! LOL).

We all have a limit to what we'll accept for room cleanliness, and while it may never happen that we get a less than acceptable room, it is really unfair to judge another and/or what is acceptable to them.

It's a happy ending if we can still have a magical vacation!!! :)

Not every resort has been sited and Disney has complied...but with the turnover at the resorts, housekeeping isn't always what it should be....

So, go with lysol and clorox wipes (and lysol spray, if possible) and you'l be fine! Remember, always put the remote in a baggie and spray, wipe phone, light switches, door handles etc...you'll be fine!

We've had nice clean rooms too..but still do all of the above.:confused3

Honestly, we never get sick at Disney!!:thumbsup2
p.s. and always have the linens changed on arrival, including the bespread ;)

I am sorry you had to run into problems like this it is inexcusible

If we found a room like that upon entering you can bet I would have requested another room. There is no reason to put up with it. You paid for the room and it should be at least clean and in good repair

I would highly recommend writing to Disney and letting them know of these issues. Here is a contact page for you https://secure.disney.go.com/wdw/contact/contactUs?id=ContactUsPage

Thanks for your honest report. Sorry you had to deal with all those issues. The tub one really got me feeling sick to my stomach. Our last visit to the Polynesian was filled with issues too and we were staying concierge no less. I am glad we have a better alternative for our family The Swan. Their customer service is so much more better than Disney. I hope you get an answer that is positive from your letter. Let us know how things turn out.

I am very happy you have never dealt with these issues at the Poly. This was our 2nd trip there in 4 months. We did not encounter these problems in June or obviously I would not have returned there for this trip. We travel to Disney and stay on property 2-4 times a year and own DVC and have never dealt with this type of issue. I can assure you I am showing restraint not "making to much of it".

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement and the link.
