Just Returned From Por!!!!!!

Thanks marijeff! Here's another question. I am very sensitive to noise at night. I'm going to try and pack earplugs this trip and see how it works. Anyway, I've read several posts about people who felt like their room was too noisy because of airconditioning equipment outside their room. Have you found this to be a problem? If so, is there any way to request a room w/o the equipment outside the window?

My other question is upstairs or downstairs? I have found that a lot of hotels don't have enough sound proofing between floors. I can hear every step people take and listen to them talking. Luckily, they usually go to sleep, unlike airconditioners! ;) Is this an issue at POR?

I have requested AB 27. Any other ideas to help me out?

Thanks in advance!

REBECCA,

I FOUND BLDG. 27 TO BE VERY QUIET. WE WERE ON THE BOTTOM FLOOR CORNER ROOM AND THE ONLY THING I HEARD WAS A TOILET FLUSHING EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. I WILL ASSUME IT WAS FROM THE GUESTS UPSTAIRS FROM US.

We were on the bottom floor and heard no noise from upstairs. This was NOT the case at CS. We could even hear the people upstairs opening up the dresser drawers. It was awful! In fact, we disliked CS so much we xf'd back to beautiful POR. I love it there!

Hey LAH

We stayed in #27 last August and it was wonderful. Room 2764 to be exact. A nice corner with 2 windows.

We were there for 10 days and every time we passed by room ( i think ) 2754-56 we were jealous. What a view of the Marina.

We thought that room and room 9239 in the Mansion section are the BEST. We stayed in 9239 2 years ago. A corner room. What a view of the Marina.

#27 is a nice bldg. We will request that building again this August. It seems to be just far away from the "people traffic" that you get when in #14.

LAH...did you get a chance to see Bob in the River Roost. ?
If so, hopefully you had fun.

KINGGOOFY,

I AGREE WITH YOU. BLDG 27 IS A GREAT LOCATION. AND YES I DID GET TO SEE BOB. WHAT A BLAST!!!!!

WE ARE ALREADY PLANNING OUR NEXT TRIP AS WELL. I AM THINKING ABOUT STAYING AT POR AGAIN. YOU MENTION 9239 MANSION. IS THAT THE BLDG DIRECTLY ACROSS THE BRIDGE FROM THE FOOD COURT?

Hi, I have reservations for POR Riverside (Magnolia Bend) for our Honeymoon in September 2004. The main reason I chose this location is because it is so beautiful, and seems to be the most romantic of all the moderate resorts that our packaged offered.

I too heard that POR Riverside will start renovations when the renovations on the PORFQ are finished. Well, the French quarters are now complete, and I am worried that I will be booted out of POR to only have to move to another moderate resort. This would really upset me because I have my heart set on POR. I have already stayed at all the other moderate resorts and neither DH nor I have stayed at POR. Actually, the last time I visited WDW, the POR was called Dixie Landings. It wasn't until I started researching for our Honeymoon trip that I found out that the name was changed. I was so excited that this was a "Moderate" resort! I had only seen POR (then Dixie Landings) from a boat ride I had taken to Down town disney and had always thought the Mansions were beutiful and thought they were a Delux resort. I was like a little kid in a candy shop when I recently found out that it wasn't.

so, I called Disney yesterday to ask about this situation. I was told that they did not have any information concerning the renovation of POR. (I find this really odd). She said as soon as they are notified of any renovations, they will inform people ASAP.

One other thing I thought was odd........ A few weeks ago I called Disney to get some prices quoted for my family (who will be traveling to Disney for our wedding) And I was told that PORFQ was for September. Now this was just a few weeks ago. Why would they tell me that it was closed in September when it was so closed to being finished. When I looked prices up on the internet, through Disney and expedia, they too said the PORFQ was closed in September.

I hope they are just not confusing the two POR's

If anyone has any additional info please keep posting.
I just thought this was interesting. O, I belive the web site that I read about the renovations of POR was on allearsnet.com. Maybe we can try to contact someone from that site and ask where they got there information.

I WAS AT POR LAST WEEK AND THE ONLY INFORMATION I HEARD WAS THAT ONCE POFQ OPENS UP (NEXT MONTH) THAT THEY WILL START RENOVATIONS ON POR. NO DATE WAS GIVEN.

SORRY

Hi.Just got back from POR..We were in building 14 it was awesome............ close to the food.............but no traffic... we were sround the side...The resort was jsut awsome and wpuld highly recommend it to all.. Some of the other buildings were quite a distance from the food and morning coffee......... #14 was perfect .the whole place was perfect........... We sent a very friendly fax 4 days before we left requesting non smoking, #14 top floor and got it all...Thanks for that tip from all this great posts.................
The pools were great and anything we wanted was right there........

Room 9239 is DIRECTLY across from the Marina. It is the mansion right in the middle of two bridges.
So basically "six in one hand and 1/2 a dozen in the other" as to which bridge you use.

I am hearing an aweful lot about POR renovations. I am thinking that I am going to book our summer trip soon.

This way, if booked and then they decide on renovations, they may offer me an upgrade somewhere else. I remember last year (maybe March-April ) that those who were booked for POFQ were offered discounted upgrades to other resorts.

People were reporting that they were given the option of switching to another Mod. at equal price or to a deluxe for 'very cheap". I remember one poster stating they got YC for an extra $10 per night.

Its a matter of time before they renovate POR. I can honestly see them shutting down either AB or the Mansions ...BUT not at the same time.

Morning. I think y'all are all starting to worry me! We will be at POR the beginning of March. You don't think we'll get there and find out that it is being renovated, do you?

Happy Valentine's Day!:lovestruc

ThwTwinsMom:

Sure you will be fine for the beginning of March at POR. We just returned from POR and were told last week that POFQ does not even re-open until March 21 and any renovations to POR would not start until after that time.

Have a great trip!

Hi...first post here. I will be going to POR for my honeymoon in June. I know that my FI registered for the lower end room I was just wondering if that means we will be in the Bayou rooms automatically, or might we be in the Mansion rooms???

Oh and I read somewhere that they wouldn't be closing down POR for the renovations. They will be doing certain buildings at the same time, but leaving the rest open.

Thanks!

Hi,

We're checking in the same day for the week. Maybe we'll be neighbors. I've got three dds who'd love to have friends at the pool.

Atotty-that would be great! My DSs are 10 and 8. How old are your crew? Will you be requesting any particular building? Our check in date did change to Sunday now, but we'll still be there for a week. Hope to see you there! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy:

Rebecca,

No need to worry. Renovations won't start that soon.

Hi,
We just returned from Florida yesterday. We stayed in POR AB room 2711 from 2/11 to 2/15. For our family of five with kids aged 7, 9, and 12 it was a great location. It was just a short walk down the "hall" to the walkway that goes along the river. We were just minutes from the main pool and the resort center. The ice machine was around the corner.
I faxed a room request and didn't get anything I asked for. However, I was able to get the building and floor I wanted (AB27, 1st flr) by requesting it at check in.
As for noise, we noticed a toilet flushing one night and something like a rolling suitcase. It seemed to come from directly above us.
I would be careful requesting a corner room. The one near us (maybe 2709?) was in the direct line of vision for everyone walking to their rooms. You literally looked straight into that room while walking down the walkway.
POR is a great resort. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.
I hope everyone else has as much fun as we did!

The rumor...and I stress rumor...that I've heard on other boards is that POR will start rehab soon, but since it is so big, they will do several buildings at a time and **not** close the whole resort. That's the way they're doing/did the Poly this past year, too (not sure if they're done yet).

Being a family of 5, I've been watching this for a while because we can't fit into any other rooms but Deluxe....I was hoping for possible cheap upgrades like last year when POFQ closed.

:wave2: "WELCOME to the DIS"~Also, congratulations on your upcoming Honeymoon plans @ WDW!

Be sure to inform the CM upon "check-in" of your HONEYMOON celebration visit! Then, if you prefer the Mansions over the AB, let the CM know. Enjoy!! It's a BEAUTIFUL resort, very romatic for late eve strolls along the river in front of the mansions. ::yes::

hi, were going this spring with three young princesses 8, 5, 3 not sure if we shud get a car what do u think

Howdy all. I was jut reading the POR FAQ post. It said that you can smoke in bldg #27. Is this true? Would it be the whole building? Or just some rooms? I seem to recall people saying bldg #18 was a smoking bldg. I really can't handle smoke at all.

Thanks!
