Just returned from a terrific stay at Pop Century. I was there for a quick 4 night stay to visit my younger brother and his family staying at WDW for 3 weeks. This was my first value resort and I must say, I LOVED it. I give Disney and the POP two thumbs up for their excellent handling of the weather situation. They left messages on the room phones with updates on the situations.

I have completely changed my thinking for WDW resorts. I would definitely stay at this resort again. I always stayed at Grand Floridian but to be honest, I would rather save the money and stay at POP. Yes, I am even suprised to say it. Didnt miss the turn down service, didnt miss the monorail and certainly loved the relaxed atmosphere. I feel I got more bang for my buck and hell, saves a BOATLOAD of money. I paid for the preferred view and was able to see fireworks from Epcot and MGM every night. I was in 5312. Farthest room from Everything Pop and last room in the wing. I was parallel to the lake next to the big green yoyo (was a stairwell) I was on the side with the Jungle Book icons.

I loved the food area which had excellent selections and good prices along with being continually cleaned and excellent seating, loved the Hippy Dippy pool and loved Petals bar. The staff was superior and the bus service was excellent. Never more than a 10 minute wait. resorts was constantly being cleaned and my non smoking room smelled brand new. I even though the room was a nice size. Didnt miss the balcony, didnt miss the interior hallways and they did offer limited room deliveries of food during certain times. Did I say how much I loved it there?

I will say the resort is quite spead out and and since my room was so convenient, I could not imagine the walk to the main building from the farther out sections. I will say it took me a good 20 minutes to figure out where my room was the first day. Yes I felt foolish but I was not the only one observed doing the same thing.

I will say it once again, the POP was excellent and I honestly believe, I have changed my feelings about the deluxe resorts.

Any questions? please ask.

Don

sounds really great. How was the pool area how big is it and is there a water slide?

I'm really excited and it's good to hear you had a good time.

Hello don:

I am debating whether to stay at POP or at the doubletree club lbv at the entrance to disney. I have MS and walking is sort of difficult. How far is the parking from your room. also do the bathtubs have handheld showers or grab bars. I really appreciate your help. Glad your trip was great and safe.

Milemrkr63 - We stayed at Pop Century in July and had that exact room - #5312!!! We also really enjoyed our stay! Our room was very quiet - we never heard our neighbor or any outside noise!

The pools are wonderful (but there are no slides).

We will be returning to Pop Century in December!!! Can't wait!!!

magic2000:

did the bathrooms have grab bars or hand held showers. thanks for the info.

betty,

i have not stayed at the pop yet, but at the all stars and POR, the handicapped accessable rooms had adapted tub/showering areas...just call and ask what their special needs rooms are like and hopefully they will give you a good answer!!!!

Thanks billwendy:

I have actually stayed at the all star sports in the handicapped room with one king size bed. But on this trip DS will be coming with us so I need a room with 2 beds, so the handicapped room is out. That is why I wanted to know if the standard room actually had grab bars or hand held showers.

thanks betty:wave:

I'm so glad to hear you like Pop. Makes me feel so much better about my decision to stay there on our next trip in Oct.

Thanks for the info.

my friend I had connceting rooms and mine was a normal room and hers had the 2 double beds but had a handicapped bathroom. It had handrails and a low lock on the door. It had a tub too w/ the handles. I heard the handicapped rooms had no tub and the whole floor is the shower floor. But hers wasn't like that. I guess they have different kinds of handicapped rooms.

BettyDisney - I do not think there were grab bars; or hand held showers in the room we were in (Room 5312).

I would call Disney and ask if there are double bed rooms available that are accessible.

Good luck and enjoy your stay!!!!

Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to go now. I was so disappointed when I had to switch from WL to POP.. but I saved a TON of money and I know I won't regret it.

Thanks again! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Bethzfl - In July, we split our stay between Pop Century and Wilderness Lodge! My DD princess: fell in love with the pool/slide at WL! We had originally booked Wilderness Lodge for our trip in December, but then I got one of the e-mails, and for what we would have paid for one night at WL, we are staying FOUR nights at Pop Century!!! Couldn't pass up that great deal!!!

Enjoy your stay!!!

My husband and I stayed at POP in April. We loved it! The rooms were clean, and the staff was helpful. The food court was nice and stocked of fresh foods.

We are going back in 1 1/2 weeks and can't wait!

I want to stay at POP so I'm trying to talk my parents into letting us stay there.

They made some of the giant stuff in my town, like the yo-yo's! It was cool to see them in pieces and then a while later, to see them down in Florida!

There are two different kinds of rooms. If you need a room with a roll-in shower, then a king bed is the only option. Otherwise, if you need two double beds, there are rooms with two double beds as well as showers with rails, etc.

I stayed at POP last Feb and after a bit of adjustment I did enjoy the resort.

Am heading back there in December, but have been having second thoughts - worrying about how relaxing it will be etc. Stayed at GF in September and was completely spoiled!

Your trip report reminded me of several reasons why I so enjoyed POP and am now looking forward to another stay in less than 3 weeks!

Thank you for your enthusiastic report!!

Looking forward to our February stay at POP. Thanks for the report.
