Just returned from POFQ

Hey Dawgfan--
How were the food options and quality at POFQ? I know there's no TS at POFQ, but wondering what we're in for if we want to grab a bite without having to leave the resort.

I hope this doesn't cause you to give me bad advice, but I can't help but add...

GO POKES! :teeth:

There have been a few threads lately complaining that the CM's at POFQ were rude especially at the Food Court. Did you notice this?

We're going back in October but haven't been to POFQ for several years.

Glad to hear you had a great trip.

This is our favorite resort, also

GOOOOOOOOO DAWGS SIC EM RUFFFFFFFFRUFFFFFFF

DW and I were wondering what the Washing Machines and dryers cost.. and where is it (laundry room) located on the property.. close to anything we can occupy ourselves with while laundry is going!!

If I remember correctly it is 2.00 per load. The pool, gift shop/ food court/ arcade are all close by. It is located in the middle of the resort.

The pool bar (Mardi Grogs) is in the same building as the laundry room; just right around the corner. That might keep you occupied. :thumbsup2

thanks for the info on the laudry.. that'll be cool.. toss down a couple while the laundry gets tosed around.. lol..

I had them place the credit card charge routine on my card. Yes it was $1000.00 limit. It is optional. Our room key s stopped working for some reason. This occurred with my key first them my wifes and then my daughters. We went up front. They had to completely cancel our ressie in their system and redo it. At the same time we had abotu $300 in charges on the card. whe nDisney did wahtever they diod to the room resssie the credit card compamy got suspicious and declined the charges that Disney tried to push through on the cancelled room reservation. Luckily I haed lenty of cash but this really bent me out of shape. The y could not explain the room key debacle and the CM doing the ressie redo did not know exactly what she was doing. She apoligized and there was no real harm here in the end other than aggravation. The CM coul dnot really explain to me what the problemn was and if I needed to pay them cash on the spot. As it turned out I only had to pay at the end when I checked out as normal but I had them remove charging from the room keys immediately. Their reservation system went haywire while we were there though.

We used the washer and dryers while we were there. It was $2 a wash and $2 a dry but we had to dry twice for one load in our case. We ate at the food court while putting our clothes in and picked them up as we finished.

The food court at POFQ is fairly good. I recommend the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich as my personal fav. They have a pick up order counter that can be slow at times as many people may be ordering at once. This and the pizza/ "italian window" are the only things open for lunch. The pick up window for grilled itmes has Philly Cheese Steak, Hamburgers, chicken sandwich, and hot dog. Most of these items are about $6.95 and come with fries. If you do not want fries they will not give them to you but they will also not give you a break on the price. The "Italian window" (I call it this as it has Italian type food items) has pizza to order. They have a 16" and a personal pan. They have spaghetti and chicken parmesan. At night and at breakfast they have other windows open. You can get Southern style comfort foods at one window like ribs and chicken, turnip greens and mashed potatoes. One other window serves salads and a sandwich or two like a Muffeletto sandwich....not sure what that is as I have never had one. You can get deserts at yet another window. Food quality was good but you get tired of it after a few days. Some of this stuff starts to run together you know. After the fourth hamburger you think that you can't eat this stuff anymore. My youngest ate better than I have seen her eat in months. She ate her weight in pepperoni pizza and hamburgers. We do not eat like this at home. She is a picky eater and if she liked it it was pretty darn good.

Service was good if not great and we never encountered a rude CM anywhere. In fact I saw CM's subjected to near abuse by park visitors and never saw one lose their temper or act discourteous. POFQ CM's were fine. Mousekeeping was great. We got a towel hammock one day where my kids stuffed animals all hung between the bed posts. They got a big kick out of this.

on another note, I was curious if they put a hold on your CC when you check in? and do you have to have the charge option put on your KTTW? My DW thinks she saw somewhere that they put a $500 hold agaisnt your Credit Card at checkin...

Does anyone know if this is the case? can i have some details??

Disney gets an authorization for $1 on your cc at check-in if you wish to have charge privilages..

Amount limit that can be charged are by resort level (a payment can be made at any time):

Values: $500
Moderates: $1000
Deluxe: $1500
:flower3:

We chose POFQ because many DISers said this was the smallest resort and easiest to get around on foot. We will be taking this trip with my MIL who probably won't be able to walk as much as one needs to to get around the resorts and parks (she just doesn't get how much walking a WDW trip is and keeps ignoring what we tell her - she also has refused an ECV). My SIL is joining us as well and she is NOT into big crowds/dealing with lots of people. Did you find the resort to be easy to get around? Which buildings would be best for us to request (we are trying to get connecting rooms) - close to the bus stops but not so close that we can hear the buses or lots of other guests going past to/from the stops? How crowded are the grounds, food court, pool, etc? Are the grounds such that MIL could find lots of pretty spots to sit and relax near the buidlings (without having to walk far)?
Thanks so much for any help!:goodvibes

thanks again everyone.. we also chose POFQ becuase i had heard on here and from others it was a nice resort.. and wasn't so huge like the allstars, etc. I can't wait.. counting the HOURS now.. lol

Did you get one of the refillable mugs. What do they look like? We will be at POFQ in 41 days...:cool1: Needless to say I am so looking forward to it.

Another AC question - Is the window unit loud? I'm wondering if it's a big difference between on and off - one that would wake you up at night as it cycles on and off?

Also, since it is a window unit, I'm assuming it doesn't have a motion detector like some (I know the ones at the Poly do). I'm hoping that means it will always be as cold as you want it to be - does anyone know?

Thanks!

Leslie

We've not had any trouble with the window unit noise, but the unit are old so some could be louder than others. It is that stays on so the room is cool when returning :)

Window AC not real noisy, but we usually stay in March or April and only need the ceiling fan on to cool the room.

Buildings 3 and 4 are the closest to the main building. Building 4 is the one closest to not only he main building with food court and front desk but also the bus stop. Either building is very convenient. Have her refer to a map and get her bearings as soon as you guys are there and she will see how best to get around. The resort is small and easy to navigate but the closest buildings are going to be best for her. As far as crowds...you will simply never see one at this resort outside the pool area. The pool area is the most crowded part of the resort and even it is not really crowded. Walking around you may see a few people at any given time. No crowd problem here.

The noise level was not a problem and we could get the room COLD. HANG MEAT COLD if we wanted. My wife is hot natured and she complained that the room was too cold. She has never done that anywhere. I had to shut the unit off or dial it way back for her. After hours we would return and the room would still be comfortable. There is no motion sensor. You control the level of cool.

LimeGreenEd Window AC not real noisy, but we usually stay in March or April and only need the ceiling fan on to cool the room.

Funny ...I cannot remember a ceiling fan in a POFQ room.. We surely never used it and definitely would not have needed to use it as the air conditioner works GREAT.

Mousemom Did you get one of the refillable mugs. What do they look like? We will be at POFQ in 41 days... Needless to say I am so looking forward to it.

My wife wanted a mug and we got just one. It was about $11. She used it primarily for coffee in the morning and we used it at night on resort days where we did not go to a park. We took plenty of drinks with us in a cooler for the room but we still got our money out of the mug. It makes a great souvenier. I saved my "mug money" for a Blizzard Beach mug. That most definitely comes in handy. On top of that I use all our Disney mugs (we have about 6 now) for coffee each morning at home. I am bummed that the new mugs are non descript and do not have each resort as a special logo. I liked having a resort mug that is special and particular to that resort.

Thanks for sharing about POFQ. We are staying in March (10-16) and it will be our first time. I chose it because we are travelling with my parents and I thought they would enjoy it over a Value (we loved Pop when we stayed there last year!) being a little smaller and quieter. My Mom has always had an interest in New Orleans too so I thought she'd enjoy the look of the resort.

Sounds like we made a good choice!

Allyson :)
