It was our first time staying at BWV and we were pleased with our room for the most part. We stayed in a 1BR Standard View(room 4121) and overall, it was in good shape, however, I have to wonder if the maid stayed for more than two minutes to clean the villa. The bed was made, the towels replaced, and the rooms straightened, but the rest left a lot to be desired......the counter was sticky with syrup and coffee stains were still all around the coffee pot on the counter. My DH later went to get a plate out of the cabinet and upon taking it out, realized it was covered with melted butter and bits of food....yuck! Also, there was lots of hair all over the floor by the sink/toilet area. The fan vent was falling out of the ceiling and the lightbulb over the sink in the toilet area kept blinking on and off until DH replaced it with a bedroom light bulb.

The room location itself couldn't be beat. We could see the fireworks from Epcot and had a nice view of the Eiffel tower. It was such a quiet location, too.....far from the elevator, but we didn't mind the long hallways. It was the quietest room I've ever had at any WDW resort.

We enjoyed the fact that we could walk to Epcot and HS. It is a shame that the bus service is shared with so many other resorts. The buses were always filled and with all of those pick-ups and drop-offs it took a long time to get from point A to point B.

Our week at the parks was the rainiest ever for us in July. However, because of those afternoon downpours, the skies were usually clouded over for most of the morning, so it made it bearable to be in the parks with no sun over head! It seemed more crowded than ever for July (we've gone every July since 2001) and it seemed Brazil must have sent all of its teenagers that week!

All that being said, we still had a blast and can't wait to return, however, we think we'll be returning to the VWL again, because as Dorothy says in the Wizard of Oz, "there's no place like home"!;)

Thanks for the report. We were at AKV from 7/6 to 7/17. It was very rainy, and you are right, there were tons of groups! But they weren't too bad.

Sorry to hear that you had those problems with your room. Did you call down to housekeeping to complain?

Happy to hear that your view was good.

I've never stayed at VWL and my homes are at SSR and AKL but I just LOVE BWV!!!! I'm sorry you had a dirty room because I can just gush all day long about that place! :cloud9:

Sounds like a good trip, all things considered. Housekeeping does tend to be one of the prime areas for improvement at all of the resorts. We always throw the entire silverware tray, cups, glasses, and plates into the dishwasher as soon as we arrive. No such thing as over-washing when it comes to dishes & utensils, IMO!

These types of cleaning oversights are becoming an issue!
At least in my experience.
Probably those that stay in studios aren't having these problems. It seems to be prevalent in the units with kitchens.
Make sure you write to the powers to be. I did, but never heard back.
If enough of us do maybe it will be addressed.

Also, a reminder to owners---clean up after yourself and your children!

These threads about dirty dishes in the cabinets absolutely amaze me.
Who does this??? Who uses a dish or a mug and puts the thing back in the cabinet???
Okay, you want to be lazy on vacation and not do dishes. I understand this. Kind of. I personally clean my own plates. But, if you choose not to, fine. Put the darn thing in the sink and leave it for mousekeeping.
And if it isn't the guests that are doing this.... If it is mousekeeping that is doing this to avoid having to run the dishes. Then, this really is beyond unacceptable. I think the housekeeping manager needs to be called up to the room each time we find something like this until we don't find it any more.

Since you didn't stay at least 8 nights, you only got Trash & Towel service. They don't do any cleaning for that. They shouldn't have made the beds. Only trash removed, toiletries replaced and towels replaced. Are you talking about the condition of the room when you checked in or the condition of the room on Day 4?

Pretty sure she is talking about the condition when she checked in. Gross!

I will say despite the many problems over at AKV, the rooms and bathroom in our unit were spotless.

Problems at AKV? we did not have any and we were there for 11 nights in a 1 br.

I agree, that if any of us have these problems we need to get housekeeping on the phone immediately and ask for a manager if the problem is not remedied. I think that will be more effective than writing afterward.

Our dishes were in the dishwasher when we arrived, and DW ran it again anyway.

We had that same experience with VWL in a studio in April. Upon checkin, there was food and coffee spills on the counter and down the front of the fridge. I went to housekeeping and got something to clean it off with. Then my husband opend the bed to check the pillows for feathers and the inside of the bedspread had dried food on it. HE called housekeeping and we had a supervisor there with a new bedspread inside of 10 minutes. I also ended up wiping the table chairs and coffee table for the stickies.

I think the issue is - poor supervision. It's been my observation that the housekeepers seem to not speak or understand English very well, and may come from cultures or levels of society where the standards of cleanliness are not inherently the same as ours. It's up to their supervisors to make sure they are properly trained and their work is checked on.

My daughter and I and my 2 grandaughters were at BWV from 07/13 to 07/18, we may have passed you in the halls.

I have to say that our 1 bedroom was very clean and ready for us at 8:30 Am when we checked in. Our one downside was my request on my reservation was for a room close to the Lobby and we were given room 1002 which is almost as far from the lobby as our last standard villa 2nd last from the end. Unfortunately I had broken my foot 2 days before our trip but I did have a air walking cast so wasn't so bad. I really would like to see what our room would have been if I had asked to be far from the lobby. I shouldn't complain because I was happy to have the villa ready so early.

We noticed so many tour groups in the parks we figured Brazil was probably empty of all teenagers because they were all here in Florida.

It really was the most rain I have ever had in probably 30 - 40 trips, was kind of a downer because the pools were closed so much because of the inclement weather. Did you know that the pool slide was going to be closed for a few days for painting while we were there??? My grandaughters were a little disappointed about that.

At least we were in disney and we had a very good time regardless of everything.

thanks for the report....OP....I hope you called housekeeping or management to complain....checking into a "dirty" room is unacceptable.

Yes, this condition was upon check-in. We did call housekeeping to note the condition, but all the person said was they would pass the message on and apologized. Never did we hear from anyone after that.

Now, as far as the dishwasher is concerned, I can say that we do put dishes in the dishwasher upon leaving, but we RUN it before we leave. We've always assumed that housekeeping checks the dishwasher and puts the few dishes away....perhaps this is not so? :confused3

I wasn't aware that the slide would be unavailable at the pool, but one day I went for a walk while my dd napped and noticed it wasn't open. Everytime we thought about going to the pool, the sky looked black so we didn't bother.

We enjoyed ourselves in spite of the weather. We watched our vacation DVD with relatives last night and wished we could go back right away!;) Time to start planning the next trip!:)

Could it be that the mousekeeper assumes the dishes in the dishwasher are clean and just puts them in the cabinet? If that's the case, maybe we need to leave the dirty dishes in the sink instead of the dishwasher?

We do that as well. I alway bring a few extra dishwasher tabs and rewash everything in the dishwasher.

You can never be too clean!:thumbsup2

:sad2: :sad2:
I shudder to think that people are using the plates etc and putting them back. I have always assumed that the dishwasher didn't do a good job or the person/mousekeeping didn't put enough soap or run in hot or whatever. I can't believe that someone would be disgusting enough to put used items back. :scared:

I sometimes see greasy finger prints on some of the plates and I know that people were thinking of using the plates but decided against it and just put it back...not knowing how disgusting their hands are.:sad2:

That's why, my family knows all too well, no one touches a single thing in the kitchen until everything has been rewashed!:thumbsup2

I think it is poor supervision. I was under the impression that before it can be released to the new guests, someone is responsible for checking the rooms to make sure that it is ready. This person is obviously not doing their job.

As for cleanliness standards, I cannot believe that anyone at mousekeeping would not know what is considered clean. I believe it's a matter of how much effort they put into doing their job.

I think we all have to be a little considerate of each other and help mousekeeping any way we can. What I mean by this is a couple of years ago at HHI upon check in we noticed the dishes in the cupboard were dirty. So we thought nothing of it and put them in the dishwasher. Once we started the dishwasher it starting leaking soapy water all over the place. Maintenance had to come and suck all of the water out with a wet/dry vaccum (sp?). Come to find out the people before us put liquid dish soap in the dishwasher and that is what made the mess. In my opinion this is uncalled for to treat your next neighbor like that!

Later in the week went we went to sweep the carpeting we found the folks before us cut the sweeper bag with a knife or blade of some kind and all of that nasty stuff flew around the room. We had to leave the room while they thoroughly cleaned the entire 2 Bdrm we were in. Mousekeeping and management did everything they possibly could to make us feel better regarding all of these events...and they did. We were given a resort credit to spend as we wanted and had fun no matter how someone tried to ruin our vacation.

I had a wonderful vacation despite all of this but not happy for a while with my 'fellow' neighbors whoever they were...nasty!!

 People never ceases to amaze me. Why would anyone even bother to do that, let alone think of doing it.:sad2:

I agree. But I think there are people out there who do not know the difference between dishwashing detergent and dishwasher detergent. Believe me, I've heard stories about people not knowing the difference and some who think it's the same thing:confused3 :sad2:

Sadly, it may be possible that they didn't mean to create a mess. They just didn't know.
