This was our first stay at BLT...and will certainly be our last. We have stayed at many different WDW resorts; I was stunned at the condition of BLT. We did not care for the theming at all--but I can not knock that. We knew what the decor would be. What I did find startling was how dirty and run down the place is. The carpets in the hallway were filthy. Everyday I saw crumbs and dirt in the hallways. The odor in our room was terrible. As soon as we opened our door we were greeted by the awful odor of feet. I called housekeeping about it, they promised to come and "spray" the room but they never did. The bathroom door was beat up and never closed properly. The furniture in the room was also in bad shape. The whole resort (BLT side) really felt like a dump. Not sure why this resort is in such bad shape.
The trip itself was fantastic. Amazing CM's throughout the park. FP+ worked very well for us. We hit all of the rides we wanted many, many times. We rode all the headliners numerous times. I really wanted to love BLT as it was great walking to MK. :-(

If the room smelled that badly and nobody showed up, I would have gone down to the lobby and insist that a CM accompany you to your room. You were going to be there for 10 days...no reason to put up with a foul odor. I also would have taken pictures if crumbs were on the carpet for more than a day and show someone in the lobby. Were you in a studio or a one bedroom? low floor? I find the low floors smell a little weird....I think it must have something to do with all the water around it. In fact, the lobby at BLT does not have a nice smell.

We stayed there recently and our room was spotless, the elevators were clean and the hallways looked clean.

Regarding the bathroom door, you should have called maintenance about it. Those sliding doors are a great space saving thing, but the constant opening and closing and people forgetting that they locked it and the try to open it....well, I don't think they were made/installed to withstand the abuse and probably should have been more heavy-duty.

Sorry you thought the whole place looked run down, dirty and filthy. Did that odor stay for 10 days? How did you stand it? For the amount of points you used for 10 days you should have at least been offered another room if it was intolerable.

I did complain about those things--nothing was done. I have never experienced service (or shall I say lack of) at any WDW resort before.

We had similar issues at BLT this summer. Not the smell, but damage, dirt, grime, and no one willing to come fix it.

That is really disappointing to hear. Maybe if enough emails are sent they will do something.

great going there next weekend for our first trip there i requested a top floor room so maybe that will help......

When BLT was built there was info posted that the quality of construction material and furnishings was below par. I wonder if the location and higher than normal occupancy rate, monorail, walking path to the MK has resulted in additional wear?

Our dues have been increasing 6% per year, I wonder what next year will bring?

Pictures are worth 1,000 words. Always take pictures of things like trash remaining in the hallway for more than 1/2 day, dirty dishes in cupboard, carpet not vacuumed properly when you check in to your room. Then send them along to DVC via the "contact us" tab on the member website. Or, if not a member, bring the pictures down to the lobby and ask to see a manager.

I wouldn't worry so much. We were there recently and did not observe anything out of the ordinary. I have noticed the usual wear and tear on furniture and stuff (some damage is because of the people occupying the room) and Disney is not going to replace an end table because it has the finish coming off where someone left a glass of water. However, things like stains on carpets should be addressed immediately (it would be wonderful if the person who caused the stain would call housekeeping immediately so it doesn't "set"). Improperly operating bathroom doors should also be taken care of within the day by maintenance.

Regarding the odor....I am not used to Florida dampness and humidity. I always suffer a bit with allergies when I am down there. But I've never experienced a "foot" odor in a room...just mainly an odd smell in the BLT lobby.

I have to agree on the decor...it is not my taste at all, but it IS supposed to be "contemporary". I do enjoy the rooms though....especially the glass backsplash in the kitchen....I want to have that done in my next kitchen. The one bedrooms are so roomy with the two full baths and a nice living room area.

Dwight16, enjoy your stay. Don't forget to go to the top of the world lounge to watch Wishes (unless you have a theme park view room). We do love it there. The little beach beyond the pool is a favorite spot of mine.

Our first stay at BLT three years ago, was lovely. Last year, not so good. I found the room run down, and pretty much not even on par with a Disney value. I don't care to return.

Is the odd smell in the lobby the piped in scent that others rave about?

Make sure you don't call the front desk, but go down to the front desk and let them know. When you call, you get the call center and they may or may not forward on the problem.

That is what I always do if the issue is something that I need addressed. If not addressed right away I elevated it to the supervisor/mgr , and have always had satisfaction. At the sametime I don't bring up petty issues or things that are out of the CM's control (not that OP was).

We recently spent a couple nights in BLT and did not notice any issues. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and that was after spending time at the Poly. Issues unfortunately do happen. We were at BCV one year and the hallway carpets were disgusting, by the end of our stay they were cleaning the carpets (it must have just been the time), but I was amazed that they were allowed to get so bad. Of course I don't know if the day before we arrived if someone spilled a bottle of juice and was tracked up and down the hallway.

The one thing that many of us do on boards (its the nature of 21st century communication), is to elevate everything to Defcon 5. I don't know if I would right off any resort, based on 1 experience (not that I would be in a rush to go back). Mostly because it could happen at any Disney Resort.
