Just returned from 10 night stay. Random thoughts...

Funny...we had a rotten experience at CRT last year. Ours was dinner after DD had her BBB makeover. Our waiter was so inattentive and seemed put out to be there. Even the princesses seemed to be rushing us and annoyed to have to stop and pose for pictures (Cinderella downstairs was great though). Overall, we will never go back. Hoping Akershus is better

See upthread. I either stepped in some, swam in some, or came in contact with some at a water park 13 years ago. I had to find an urgent care that could diagnose and give VERY heavy duty drugs simply to get me well enough to get on the plane and come home. It required staying an extra day of hotel and a rebook fee with the airlines and the doctor and the drugs. Someone wanting to have a cute vacation moment with their kid because they were on vacation and it's ok resulted in someone else they never met getting horrendously sick on their vacation. As fun as pools and water parks look and as much as I would enjoy getting in one again, it's not going to happen. I've experienced the other side and the chance is simply too great. I might sun at the pool. I might stand under the shower or walk thru the splash pad, but you won't catch me in the same pool where large amounts of kids poop and pee and the parents who don't think it's that big of a deal.

But, that's just me.

As someone who has literally been pooped on, had it in my hands, on my clothes along with vomit and other bodily fluids I can tell you this may not have been what caused your illness.

How did I come to that conclusion? That's what the doctor told me upon diagnosis (smile). I've avoided water parks and public pools with children ever since. He might have been wrong, you might be wrong. Who knows? But, it was an experience I don't ever want to repeat so, based on the information I was given, I don't.

And whether you are right or wrong why should anyone anytime have to take the chance. Wouldn't it make far more sense for resorts who have a great number of children to all have pools that are designated with no children in diapers period, and separate pools where those parents who wish to take the risk can do so...like kiddie pools. For heavens sake no one can state that there is no risk from feces in a pool with untrained children, swim diapers or not. Children who are not yet trained can have an accident and it isn't fair to the rest of the guests to have to share that experience because some parents actually believe that an untrained child belongs in a public pool.

i would love to hear about any activities at animal kingdom you did with your toddler!

I'm not the OP, but wanted to say we did several with our two year old. He did cookie and cake decorating, wildlife games, talks with the guides at the savannah overlooks. We never made it to the nighttime drumming but he would have loved that also!

I am embarrassed to say that we didn't do any activities at the resort except swimming and napping. We have stayed at AKL two years in a row and when we aren't in the park we are just swimming or sitting on our balcony enjoying the animals. :) (FYI: we only book a standard view room but have been very lucky with partial savanna view rooms.)

My pet peeve (well one of them) is babies in swim diapers in the HOT TUBS. UGH, it makes me crazy, I would like to enjoy the hot tub for just 20 minutes or something.

At character meals, you just need to speak up if they accidentally skip your table, I have done this myself. I do not stress out, I just speak up. Same thing for your check in, letdown. Ask for those missing perks, if it was important to your child.

Glad you had fun, that was one long trip!

I agree with some of the PPs. Public swimming pools/water parks skeeve me out. The absolute worst for me though is public hot tubs. I know the chlorine concentration is even higher than a swimming pool so you would think i would view them as being MORE sanitary. But for some reason, when I look at public hot tub all I see is a Petri dish full of mystery liquids. (Just got skeeved out typing it. I did one of those whole-body shivers:crazy2:)

Maybe it's a character flaw of mine. Who knows.

Babies + Poop + Pools

Some people are very inconsiderate it blows my mind. We took our family to Great Wolf Lodge during March break and my 4 year old (3 at time time) was a bit short to do alot of things, but day 1 she stayed in the kiddie pool area and was loving life!

About 30 minutes into day 2 a kid took a crap in the kiddie pool and they shut the whole kiddie pool down for the day.

If your kids are still in diapers they shouldn't have the run of the pool. IMO the parents should be in arms length of the kid and know pretty damn quick when they have a pooh in their diaper (before it gets soupy and leaks out). Change out the diaper, then they are probably good to go for the rest of the day. No filth in the pool, empty bowels on the kid, win-win for everyone.

I always love reading the just returned posts so I thought I would write some random thoughts.

Disclaimer: All opinions are my own. I understand that many people will not agree with what I write and what I think.

We stayed 10 nights at AKL and had a wonderful time with our family. I traveled with my DH, DS (4) and my parents. Here are some random thoughts and observations from our time there...

*AKL was beautiful, as always. We had a partial savanna view and really enjoyed seeing the animals.

*The bus situation at AKL was slightly better than last year. The busses did come on a more consistent basis (every 20 min. or so) compared to last year EXCEPT in the mornings that we went to MK. We ended up taking a taxi several times.

*It wasn't as busy as last year for the majority of our time there. That made for a wonderful, easy time walking through the parks.

*We used online check in but I felt that we "lost" something with it. In the past, my son received a safari hat, binoculars and stickers when we first arrived and checked in. This year he wasn't offered anything. I know it isn't much but we were really looking forward to those items.

*Cinderella's Royal Table was a HUGE disappointment. Going in we knew that our son would not be interested in the princesses but he really wanted to look inside the castle so we booked for breakfast anyways. I felt that the food was terrible and the waitress was unable (unwilling?) to adjust the kids menu to something my son would eat. Yes, I did look on the menu ahead of time, I just assumed we could make some changes. Our waitress was absolutely awful. She was openly hostile and made the experience the worst dining experience we have ever had. I *thought* that I had read that boys were given a sword and that the servers make a big deal about it when they are given the sword and I was really looking forward to that. Unfortunately, our waitress handed the sword to my husband as she was passing our table on her way to deliver drinks to another table. She never even made eye contact with my son and never even made a comment about it. At the end of the meal she asked us if we were on the dining plan and if we were in one room. I answered that we were on the plan in two different rooms. I then said it is the 3 of us (pointing to my husband and son) and my parents in the other room. She just stood there and stared at me to the point that I became extremely uncomfortable. Yes, I guess she would have been able to figure that out when I said 2 separate rooms, but I never gave her a reason to be so hostile. I was a server for 4 years through college and make it a point to be nice to the people that wait on us. I am still considering contacting guest services about it.

*EPCOT was, let's just say, quite surprising. On June 23rd we had a fast pass for Frozen at 1:10 p.m. We entered World Showcase around 11 a.m. and started on the left with Mexico. We went through all of the countries up to and including the American Adventure before our fast pass time arrived. We braved the heat (102 with the heat index) and went back to Norway. As soon as we arrived the Frozen ride shut down due to a problem. We were told that we could come back at any time during the rest of the day. So... back around World Showcase we went to our lunch reservation in Italy. (Thankfully, they were able to take us 1/2 hour early.) We finished World Showcase and made our way back to Norway around 4 pm. After about a 1/2 hour wait in the fast pass it was finally our turn. We got on the boat, rode to the boat to the first scene, and the ride broke down. After about 15 minutes we were helped off the boat and walked out of the ride. We were unable to just wait for the ride to be fixed even though the people in the boat right behind us were allowed to wait because they were still in line at the boat. We were told we would have to leave and come back at another time... While I understand the need to keep everyone organized I don't understand why we had to leave Norway and were not even permitted back into line to wait. (We never did get to experience the ride because we only had one day left at WDW and we didn't want to go to EPCOT if the ride was broken. It was broken down 2 additional times the following day according to my Disney app.)

After leaving Frozen we walked over to test track to use our DAS pass there. As soon as we arrived we noticed that the ride was not working. (The cars weren't zooming around every 20 seconds or so.) We waited in line for about 10-15 minutes before we finally gave up. As we were leaving another guest told us that this was the second time that she knew of that the ride was broken down that day. I looked on my Disney app and saw that Frozen, Test Track and the Gran Fiesta Tour were all closed due to problems.

*Soarin' Over the World was definitely different than the first ride. There were times when items seemed to "jump out" at you or other items seemed to almost hit you. There were many guests that were screaming on the ride as these items "popped up". The whole experience (probably because of the screaming) terrified my 4 year old son who loved the original Soarin' as a 3 year old. If you have a child who is a little nervous I would NOT let them on the new Soarin'.

*We had great meals at both Yak and Yeti and England.

*Most servers were great and we enjoyed talking to them and learning where they were from.

*We ate at the Crystal Palace for the first time this trip. When we arrived at our table the characters were just finishing up that area and started to greet our son before any of us even had the chance to sit down. We didn't have our cameras ready as we hadn't even pulled our chairs out yet. We go to at least 3-4 character meals per year and we have never felt so rushed. We had to stand as the characters posed with my son because we didn't want to miss any opportunities. Well, the hostess had sat our party of six a table for 4 and brought over additional chairs. We could barely fit at the table without food so we requested a table change from our server and he moved us to a bigger table. During this process we watch Eeyore skip our table and he was the one character my son wanted to see. He never made it back to us in the 75 minutes we were there. I'm unsure if our experience was "normal" but I don't think I will ever eat here again.

*Each night we noticed several families taking their toddlers into the pool with regular diapers on instead of swim diapers. While some may think that this is no big deal, they are very wrong. Our pool closed several times during our trip due to having feces in the pool. Please follow the rules and put your children in swim diapers. Yes, I understand how much these parents are paying for their vacation. We are all paying the same amount and wanting a pool free of urine and feces should be expected.

Overall we had an amazing trip! The only true disappointments were the meals at CRT and Crystal Palace. If you have a trip planned I know that you will have a great time!!

Happy planning!!

Our last experience at CRT (breakfast) was just about as bad. Server un-interested, food at IHOP would have been better, treated us like cattle, server practically pushed us out of the door.

If parents read signs, yes back to the sign issues, I believe there's a minimum age for hot tubs. An infant and toddlers body cannot tolerate the rise in body temp so they should not go in period, diapers or not.

I am sorry op had these issues. I personally have found that service has gone down hill over the years. I have been a pass holder since 1997, but going since 1974 at the age of 18 on my own. I have watched the real Magic change to how many guests can be shuffled in and out in a period of time. I have several character meals set up for my trip with my 2yr old (potty trained lol) granddaughter in 3 weeks. If I am rushed, I will kindly request to st least be seated first. My DD actually is a server at Longhorn, she will say something if we get bad service. My other DD was a server for 5 years at Bonefish, she too will say something. I don't care if the meal is $5 or $75, your job is to provide good service.
As far as rides down, yep, include the monorails in that too. It just seems to get worse. Seems they don't have time for maintenance anymore.

So sorry to hear about your issues. Those types of things drive me crazy at the most expensive vacay on earth!!

As with everything at Disney now it seems to be a churn um in churn um out attitude.

I think its the management more than the servers at CRT

I ate at CRT 9 years ago with my then 5 year old son, his best friend and his parents and back then it was much more special. They did make a big deal about the sword and our server chatted with us and helped take some photos.

Flashforward to last year I was there with just my 11 year old daughter and it was like the servers were all robots not just ours. You could almost hear the mantra get um in get um out. It was funny to see the change in our server when my chatty daughter started gushing about how beautiful the castle is and how excited she was for her first Disney trip and it was just a girls trip. It was like the server woke from a daze and became completely engaged and friendly. She made a big deal about the wand for my daughter and even brought out one for me saying both girls should have wands. Same with the wishing stars. Observing her at other tables she just rushed around -serving, clearing, filling glasses saying little to the guests. Also my daughter was telling the server she wasn't a big fan of eggs but had to have some protein and the server offered to bring her less eggs and sub in a Mickey waffle.

As for Crystal Palace, what a shame your son missed Eyore. I have never had a problem seeing all the characters there. We must be slow eaters because last year they came around twice!! After eating we were admiring the topiaries and one of the CM's thought we were waiting for a character we'd missed seeing. So if anyone finds tgemselves in OPs position I would def say sonething to your waiter or CM inside the entrance as I'm certain they will help make it right for you.

The ride breakdowns r such an issue its ridiculous. We r planning test track single rider as our first stop in EPCOT this August and will ride it a couple times. CM told us last year that it is always breaking down and once it does it's usually done for the day we experienced issue first hand last year -rode it once and then broke down:(

Glad all in all you had a nice time. Looking forward to our girls trip #2 this August!

That's how we do TT now. Single Rider, this way if it breaks we aren't tied to a FP to decide what to do with, or stuck on a long line.

Glad you had a good trip! I absolutely LOVE AKL, glad you enjoyed it, and lucked out with a partial savannah view!!

Oh my GOSH I’m so SORRY that CRT was such a rotten experience!!! It’s really been hit or miss for us these past few years, and has been leaning towards miss more often now! We never got given the wands or Bummer about Norway, I feel like they rushed into opening it before all the kinks were really worked out! I hope you get a chance to ride it in the future!

How bizarre about Soarin, that’s crappy that they’d take something that was perfect for most ages and make it jumpy/scarier for smaller kids!
Love Ya&Y and Rose & Crown, great places for a meal!
Bummer about CP too! What gives?! Maybe they seated you just a few minutes too early/late? I know the rotation is weird there, but still, they should’ve either skipped over you and come back next rotation, or at least given you time to settle in! Sad you didn’t get Eeyore!
The diaper thing is JUST GROSS! ECK!

Glad that the trip was amazing even with all the hiccups! Even more glad that you were able to see past them and see the good and magic in your trip!!

Yes. Trying to show that being rude and disengaged is quite different than not getting fussed over, or being told special food cannot be made.

I never said that I wanted my child "fussed over". Those were your words, not mine. What I said was that I thought the servers made a big deal about giving the sword to the child and calling them a knight. My server didn't even seem to know that there was a child at our table. That doesn't include the absolute rude/aggressive behavior she displayed towards the adults. In addition, I NEVER said that I wanted special food made so I don't know why or how you came up with that. I wanted to substitute his food with some other items that were on the menu.

Maybe all 3 of us had the same server. I wouldn't say she was necessarily rude, but she was definitely uninvolved. No smiles, just plopped the food down without a word, no drink refills... I wouldn't say it totally put me off of CRT, but between the service, the meh food, and the price, I'm not rushing back.
Malt hat 4 of us. We had a terrible server in November too. Very short, and wouldn't smile. It was actually our first time at CRT and wasn't aware of the way they sat, and asked the waitress at one point where all the princesses were because none of them were out on the floor. I was just curious, we had already seen them. She snapped back, " you already saw all of them, they don't go around twice"!! We didn't like the food, thought it was very overpriced because there really was no "experience" to justify like at HDDR or other places in that price range. Yes, it's the castle, but the atmosphere at akershus or BOG is just as good for 1/2 the price.

It's selfish to let a baby swim? Or to want to teach a child (who is not yet potty trained) to swim and save their life from possible drowning?! Wow!

Actually yes it is selfish. They have classes and kiddie pools for this. Why should an entire resort be inconvenienced by a pool closure when a diaper leaks (and they leak all the time and it's absolutely vile.)

If you were asking for substitutions for other items in the menu, it's absurd they would not accommodate that. Any restaurant any where else likely would. Don't get why the most overpriced restaurant in WDW won't do that. We have yet to do CRT and after all I've seen and read we won't be going anytime soon.
