Just returned from 10 days at the Poly - just not worth it!

If the monorail is down and you don't want to wait for the small boat that goes from MK to GF then to Poly, then I would take the ferry from MK and then walk from the TTC to the Poly. Even when the monorail was running we used the ferry because it could hold more people than the monorail.

We love the Poly, but like every resort it is not for everyone. The great thing about Disney is that they have so many different resorts that there is something for everyone.

Now about the monorail. Yes I have to agree with you that it is a huge issue. People who pay to stay on the monorail should be able to use the monorail when they want and that includes at night. I hope Disney reconsiders this policy and gets the monorail running again at night.

Enjoy The Magic!!

This is very good advice for Poly guests! :thumbsup2 The problem is that it would not work for those staying at the GF and CR. While CR guests have the option of just taking the short walk back to their resort, guests at the GF only have the option of taking the bus if the resort ferry is too crowded... walking from the TTC to the GF would be pretty ridiculous. It does not make much sense to me that guests of the "flagship" resort get the shaft in this situation. But, like I said, great advice for those staying at the Poly in this unfortunate situation.

To the OP thanks for posting you're review and at least you got to try the Polynesian once, so you will know in the future not to stay there anymore.

May I ask why you are down on the Wilderness Lodge? We are considering a stay there.

Ron

Mostly the same reasons you listed about the Poly plus the hallways and rooms were noisy. The room we had at Poly was noticably larger than POR but WL not-so-much. I like the pools and food court at POR.

I like the trail at WL for running and the boat to MK was pretty quick tranportation when we were there. The lobby is fantastic but after bobbing my head up and down like Clark Griswold at the Grand Canyon, once I've seen it I don't need to see it again and again. Overall, the Poly felt like an upgrade from POR while WL did not.

I am really getting nervous about these monorail reports. We will be checking-in at the Poly two weeks from today. So you are saying that after EMH at Epcot there is no monorail back to the TTC? That's going to be a major letdown for us. :( So what do you do, take a bus from Epcot to the Poly? Or to the TTC? I am so confused. :(

Isn't it awesome that you tried, know its not for you, and now can go to a moderate not feeling there's something out there better for you???

I don't know but we can only afford moderates right now and seriously every time I wish we can try Poly. I kind of wish we just did it, didn't think it was worth the upgrade and was over it LOL!

This is what my dh and I are going to do Nov/Dec this year. 3 nights at our fav Coronado, then 4 nights at the Poly. I had a room only PIN, otherwise we would not be trying the Polynesian for the first time. We have always wanted to stay there... I'm hoping for a wonderful experience, but if not, I will happily go back to the Coronado Springs!

I never stay at the deluxes anymore except for DVC resorts on points.

You just do not get a whole lot more for the price you are paying to go deluxe. If I have to pay OOP for a Disney resort I usually choose Pop Century.

So you are saying that after EMH at Epcot there is no monorail back to the TTC?

The monorail will now stop running an hour after official park closing time. There are buses available back to the MK resorts after that.

OK, I looked up the monorail situation. Good to know before we go!

Was going to post a link but I guess I have to have 10 posts before I do that. ;)

To us, the Polynesian is extremely over priced. With the pin code we received, we could have literally paid for (2) full ten day vacations at a moderate resort for the price we paid at the Polynesian.

And this is why I changed my mind on where we are staying next trip. We get 40% deluxe/deluxe villa with our military discount, but when I added up what it would cost as opposed to staying at a mod, I realized it essentially was paying for TWO trips. Two LONG trips to WDW as opposed to one with a little more room was a no-brainer for me.

I'm sorry you didn't like the Poly, but as others have said, at least you tried it and now you know it's not the resort for you. We love everything about the Poly and can't wait to stay there again. But that's what is so nice about Disney......there's a variety of resorts to choose from to satisfy everyone's taste ;).

We have stayed at Pop , All Star Music, POR, CSR, WL, and the Poly. My favorite is the Poly, I just felt really comfortable there because it is not a large resort and easy to get around.
We loved the monorail and we took the boat back from MK after the EP and wishes and had no wait at all.
We ate at Ohanas for breakfast and dinner and really liked both. We ate at Captain Cooks and I have no complaints, I really liked the dole whip.
We loved the tropical theme and totally enjoyed the volcano pool and watching the fireworks and water parade on the beach.
We did not pay 330.00 a night though, ours was 287.00 or 289.00 something like that lol a night for garden view.
Anyway I had always wanted to try out the Poly and finally did and Im not sorry we did. We will go back to moderates next because the price and thats the only reason.

Large Rooms - 160 sq ft is quite a bit larger.

That square footage counts the hall and the bathroom. In terms of the bedroom space, the older Poly bedrooms are significantly bigger than moderates, but with the newer Poly rooms the difference isn't so much ("newer" being a relative term, here ;) ). If you've got a balcony, for a lot of people that "expands" the room size a bit, but not all Poly rooms have balconies.

If the monorail is down and you don't want to wait for the small boat that goes from MK to GF then to Poly, then I would take the ferry from MK and then walk from the TTC to the Poly. Even when the monorail was running we used the ferry because it could hold more people than the monorail.

:thumbsup2

Excellent idea. :) I suppose the lines are still bad but they probably move much faster.

The deluxes are nice but the prices are ridiculous! GF $500 per night, are you freaking kidding me? The rooms are not even that nice! Some are very dated actually.....I can afford it and would not dream of paying it! Count me in the list for "the prices of the deluxes @ Disney are ridiculous".:scared1:

We kinda felt a bit underwhelmed with our Poly stay too considering the high price tag. I always wanted to stay there and when a great summer discount came along, we jumped on it. We loved the landscaping, food options, and the volcano pool. The monorail to MK was awesome and we really liked the boat too. Monorail to Epcot was just meh -- seemed like a long wait for the monorail to come, bus to HS was just as fast. The rooms were large and comfortable. Not saying we didn't like the resort because we did, but the rates are so high and I would have been pretty disappointed if we didn't have a discounted rate. Our plan is to stay in a different resort each time -- we have many, many more to try :thumbsup2

There is only one EMH night while we are there so I guess we will be fine to take the monorail every night except that one. I'm thinking we might just get a cab from the BC back to the Poly for epcot EMH so we not have to take the bus. I sure don't want to get in a huge crowd of confused monorail resort guests. Ugh, what a pain.

OP - did you use the patio/balcony off your room at all? Curious as to how nice/not nice it was. We stayed at POR but were thinking on our next trip, we will be moving at a much slower pace and thought it might be nice to stay at a Deluxe so we can sit out on the balcony and relax and maybe do room service or something. Not sure I'm willing to pay all that extra $$ though.

We loved the Poly! We are DVC members so haven't stayed there in a while because we're always using our points, but if I was staying cash I'd stay at the Poly!

nkereina..........if you're talking about balconies at the Poly then I believe only the 2nd floor rooms have balconies. At least in the Tokaleau (sp?) building they're only on the 2nd floor. We use our balcony quite a bit.

We stayed at the Poly and thought the room was huge, and it did have double sinks. There is a slight difference in room size and bathroom layout between longhouses. I believe the newer ones are larger and have the double sinks. We were in Tokelau.

I thought Poly had the best transportation, with monorail or boat to MK, and a short walk to Epcot monorail. We only had to bus to AK & DHS. But this was before they stopped EMH monorail service. A terrible move by WDW to be sure.
I'd e mail my complaint about that- totally unacceptable.

I do agree about pricing. We only stayed there because we got a 45% off AP rate a couple of years ago. I'm glad I got to experience Poly because unless we get another 45% off rate (highly doubtful) we won't stay again. It is totally overpriced.
