Our Hilton Head Trip Report.

We just returned from a fantastic six night stay at HH. It was our first stay there, and we will definitly use our DVC points for stays at HH in the future. This was a low-key vacation for me and my DW, with much emphasis on relaxation, and very few planned activities.
We arrived Sunday evening to "Welcome Home, we've been expecting you". Our one bedroom villla was #1114 in the Live Oak Lodge (just around the corner from Big Murggie's Den). The lodge rooms are about a five minute walk to the mercantile / pool/ pier area. The room was in excellent shape and properly stocked. (There were a couple of loose tiles in the entrance foyer.) The rooms large balcony overlooks the marsh and some of the homes across the water. It was a little cool to use the balcony much. The weather while we were there left a little to be desired....but it could have been worse. Most days got up to the low fiftys, were overcast, with occasional rain. But Friday was beautiful, sixtys and sunny. Every cm we encountered during our trip was chatty and quite friendly.
We did not take part in many of the recreation activities at the resort. Although I was much impressed with the list of activities given to us at check-in. We will do more on later trips. We did go to Chef Gordon's Longview Cooking Club. It was great fun and the food was quite good. Chef Gordon taught us how to make crab cakes and bbq shrimp while we enjoyed wine and snacks. The Cooking Club was held at the Beachhouse, which was getting a fresh coat of paint while we were there.
I really enjoyed walking around the resort as well as the Shelter Cove area. We did hit some of the shopping areas around the island. Even though it is off-season on the island, most shops and and restaurants are open. There are no crowds anywhere. We drove to Savannah twice during our stay. Once for lunch and to explore the historic district. A second time for dinner with a friend (also a DVC member) who was in Savannah for business. Savannah is only about an hour drive from HH.
I was pleased that the member pins were on sale at Broad Creek Mercantile. They had the Tink pin when we arrived and the Jiminy Cricket pin arrived at the shop at the end of the week. We were able to get both in one trip!
We ate breakfast in our room everyday, lunch a couple of times and dinner once. The rest of the trip we really enjoyed trying out restarants around the island and in Savannah. There is a free Hilton Head Island Restaurant Guide distributed on the island, with menus from over 120 restaurants, that is a great resource when planning meals out.
We both really loved Hilton Head and the Disney Resort, and are already planning our next HH vacation.

Thanks for posting your HH experience. I love reading HH trip reports! I can't wait to go back!:sunny:

for the report. We can't wait to get there in June.

Thanks so much for the report-especially about the weather. Since we're going next week, was wondering what the weather's like in February. Is the 1 BR you had, being right by Big Murgie's Den, noisy at all? I often wondered about that, and we have a 1 BR reserved next week. Woops, another question-how much did it cost to rent bikes (if you did)?

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!! Mom & I love HH!! Can't wait to go back!!

I'm glad to hear great trip reports re: HH. We're going in August and I feel slightly apprehensive as we've never had a vacation like this without an itinerary and "something to do" like at WDW. I keep thinking that we'll all just be sitting there wondering, "Well, now what?"

We were @ HHI in July and loved it so much that we will be there again next month!

First trip was with friends and this trip will be with family!

Such a relaxing place to vacation with lots of activities for the kids!:teeth:

We are bringing cards and Disney Uno. At night we usually relax and play cards after dinner. Great time to catch up with friends and family. Good time to make Margaritas!:smooth:

If we were driving distance we would bring bikes, sand chairs, pales & shovels, etc. We purchase some items and leave them for other guests to enjoy. Sometimes it is cheaper to purchase and give away than rent on a daily basis.

Start planning for the next trip!:teeth:

Is the 1 BR you had, being right by Big Murgie's Den, noisy at all? -how much did it cost to rent bikes (if you did)?

We never heard any noise from Big Murggie's or the check-in area. As a matter of fact, it was very quite all week. A couple of times we heard a door from another guest room close, but thats about all.
Bike rental at the resort while we were there was $15.00 per bike, for length of stay. They listed the price as a Winter Bike Rental Special.

We're going in August and I feel slightly apprehensive as we've never had a vacation like this without an itinerary and "something to do" like at WDW. I keep thinking that we'll all just be sitting there wondering, "Well, now what?"

Don't worry, there is plenty to do. The Activity List we got when we checked in had between 5 and 9 activities per day you can sign up for.
Before I left for HH I purchased a guidebook titled "Insiders' Guide Savannah and Hilton Head" at a local bookstore. It gives a breakdown of restaurants, shopping areas and activities for the area. If was a great help in alleving my anxiety of getting around and finding things to do.
