Our Hilton Head Trip Report.
We just returned from a fantastic six night stay at HH. It was our first stay there, and we will definitly use our DVC points for stays at HH in the future. This was a low-key vacation for me and my DW, with much emphasis on relaxation, and very few planned activities.
We arrived Sunday evening to "Welcome Home, we've been expecting you". Our one bedroom villla was #1114 in the Live Oak Lodge (just around the corner from Big Murggie's Den). The lodge rooms are about a five minute walk to the mercantile / pool/ pier area. The room was in excellent shape and properly stocked. (There were a couple of loose tiles in the entrance foyer.) The rooms large balcony overlooks the marsh and some of the homes across the water. It was a little cool to use the balcony much. The weather while we were there left a little to be desired....but it could have been worse. Most days got up to the low fiftys, were overcast, with occasional rain. But Friday was beautiful, sixtys and sunny. Every cm we encountered during our trip was chatty and quite friendly.
We did not take part in many of the recreation activities at the resort. Although I was much impressed with the list of activities given to us at check-in. We will do more on later trips. We did go to Chef Gordon's Longview Cooking Club. It was great fun and the food was quite good. Chef Gordon taught us how to make crab cakes and bbq shrimp while we enjoyed wine and snacks. The Cooking Club was held at the Beachhouse, which was getting a fresh coat of paint while we were there.
I really enjoyed walking around the resort as well as the Shelter Cove area. We did hit some of the shopping areas around the island. Even though it is off-season on the island, most shops and and restaurants are open. There are no crowds anywhere. We drove to Savannah twice during our stay. Once for lunch and to explore the historic district. A second time for dinner with a friend (also a DVC member) who was in Savannah for business. Savannah is only about an hour drive from HH.
I was pleased that the member pins were on sale at Broad Creek Mercantile. They had the Tink pin when we arrived and the Jiminy Cricket pin arrived at the shop at the end of the week. We were able to get both in one trip!
We ate breakfast in our room everyday, lunch a couple of times and dinner once. The rest of the trip we really enjoyed trying out restarants around the island and in Savannah. There is a free Hilton Head Island Restaurant Guide distributed on the island, with menus from over 120 restaurants, that is a great resource when planning meals out.
We both really loved Hilton Head and the Disney Resort, and are already planning our next HH vacation.
