Just resisted the summer room only deals!

We decided to come in 1 night early for our July trip, and so I was pricing out cash rooms with the new summer rates - there are some good deals at Wildnerness Lodge, Saratoga and Animal Kingdom Lodge, as well as Port Orleans and Caribbean Beach. I actually had booked the Doubletree Mousesavers rate of $89.00, which is great, but hubby really wants the luggage fairies to send our luggage to BWV, so being right on-site will be so much better. It will be confusing for my DD though as we are:

1 night @ AKV - studio
5 nights @ BWV - 1 bed
4 nights @ BWV - studio
3 nights @ AKV - 1 bed concierge

We love split stays - although it's all at the same two resorts, just different room categories - LOL!

After a few mintues of discussion with hubby, I called MS to see if by chance there was a value studio available at AKV, and there was. So, for 21 points I booked it! Instead of forking out the cash (our CDN is up right now), we just borrowed a few points from next year.

Next year we are already down due to the new point allocations anyway, so we might actually start borrowing on a regular basis for a few years, and then we'll re-evaluate at the time that we need to point replenish.

Just wanted to send out positive vibes to those who are trying to resist the Free Dining deals, 4/3 and summer cash discounts - it's not that hard to do, so stay strong and save your cash - LOL!

Tiger :thumbsup2

We could not!:lmao:
We added on (AP rate) a night to our July 4th trip think it was $98.00 total for AllStar Music June 27...Shawnpirate:

It's been awhile since I looked at cash rates, but $100 for a value seems outrageous... what happened to $78/nt that I last recall?

Boy am I glad we have DVC... my attitude now is if I even think about taking a room on cash I need a sanity check... and probably more points. :3dglasses

I was not able to resist either! Oh, the shame! ;)

Two nights over 4th of July in the Poly Garden View Club Level. I couldn't justify the $100/night extra for Lagoon View. Finally I will get the chance to sleep at the Poly! I love DVC....I NEED DVC! But every once in a while I love going back to try out a resort or two. Especially ones we haven't tried yet. Since two of the kids will be visiting Grandma's we will be able to fit in the Poly room with only the five of us.

So that makes four trips so far this year.

1. March Caribbean Beach
2. May VB BC and AKL GV
3. July Poly
4. Dec OKW with possible stays at POP and maybe....??? GF?? We will see.

It is very hard to resist when Disney gives the gift of a discount. Although I don't think the discount is as deep as I have seen it in the past. I was expecting 40% or so but it was closer to 35%.

I always WANT to be tempted - but even the discount rates are insane. I just can't justify it.

We're doing Gaylord Palms via. Hotwire - 85$ for our weekend arrival.

The discount rates do seem high for certain resorts, so we are glad that we used our points. We are coming in early on a Sat., so that makes points higher, but it also makes cash rooms higher.

We don't stay at Value resorts, but I did notice on the summer discount calendar, that the night we need isn't on promo at the Value resorts, so I can't imagine spending $120.00 night plus tax for a Value room - yikes! I remember paying like $59.00 for a night at Pop when it first opened for the night before our DVC stay - I guess those days are long gone.

Tiger :)

I added two nights on to my Wilderness Lodge trip and got a cash rate of $209 a night for a Studio on July 10 and 11. A standard view room was only $174 but we decided to spend a few extra dollars and stay in the same room the entire trip.

Im with you on the Value resort prices!:scared1:

Last Christmas we drove to WDW and made it there at 5am. We drove over to ASMU to see how much a room would cost for a few hours because we were tired. I was thinking $60-$80 bucks. This was still Value season and it was almost $150!! plus tax.

You do get sticker shock staying DVC. Im also spoiled by not having to pay taxes, resort fees, parking fees etc. Those can add up quick, especially when they charge per person and not per room. These fees are becoming very popular with many large chains.

I am not tempted in the least. I use my points til they sweat!:goodvibes

No deal they have offered yet can beat DVC points apples to apples imo.

Fabulous price, that place is fantastic. :thumbsup2

I was excited - you know you never know what you're getting ahead of time w/Priceline/Hotwire. With the resort fee and parking, it will be around 100$ I think - but rack rate for that date is 309. The kids are psyched that mini-golf is included.

This is our third time using Priceline and we've gotten the Peabody, the DTD Hilton, and Gaylord Palms - never for more than 85$. I'd be tempted to stay onsite if I could get a moderate for that price - but even with AP discounts, it's never been lower than 140$ the dates we travel. CRO told me weekends were not going to get AP rates:sad1:

We too have DVC, Staying at BWV for week of July 4th, but we saved on airfare if we flew in on June 27 and to add on a night in DVC WOW to many points for what basically amounts to 11 hours in the resort (don't arrive till 10:00pm saturday night). Without the AP discount ALLSTARS was $148.00:scared1: for the same night, I'll take the discount and enjoy the evening. During Christmas last year same discounted room was $49.00/$52.00 a night.

Rack rates at Values now are really high, I hadn't priced them in a few years. We are going to Vero in June and are going down a day early. We checked into Pop and it was going to be almost $150. We found a 1200 square foot two bedroom villa offsite for $99. I was trying to help my BIL plan a trip and as much off an on-site believer I am, I ended up recommending an offsite 2 bedroom villa with bus transportation for $139 per night which is a fraction of what he would have paid onsite. Thank goodness for my DVC.
