Just checked our flights on Southwest from Dec 15-23 and the flight on Dec 15 had gone down so I rebooked and saved $128 for the four of us. I will have to admit I was a little nervous between the cancelling and rebooking but everything went ok. Just wanted to let everyone know. Maybe your flights have gone down too. :D

We're flying Southwest in Dec too! Our flight to Orlando went down and I was able to get the credit. I'm hoping our flight back will go down a little too!

Our ATA fares went down a bit and I called to request a credit and was told I would have to actually change the reservation at a cost of $50 per ticket. So I guess I'm out of luck.

Great going!

Our's did too for our December trip (9th. - 14th.)...Saved a total of $120.
Southwest is crediting the difference back to our credit card, rather than having to rebook and receive future travel credit.

So there is no penalty if you cancel and rebook with Southwest? We haven't used them yet. We are using ATA, and they charge $50 a ticket for changes (as was previously posted).

If Southwest will let you rebook for less with them if their prices go down (without a penalty charge), we may just have to start using them instead.

My twins will be 11 this year, so I am getting to the point of not worrying so much about not getting seats together (which is why we have never used SW before).

DJ: There is no fee for rebooking with Southwest. We have flown Delta most frequently but it looks like we will be using Southwest more often since Delta prices have really gone up in our area. If I remember correctly we are going on the same cruise Dec 19.:D

Mark P.: We got some of our fare back on our credit card and some will have to be used for future travel. Did you make your original reservations online or by phone? Did they credit you without having to rebook it? That is great. I was a little nervous having to cancel and rebook but I didn't think they would change it for me without cancelling the first reservation. We are going back in April but it would be nice to just have the money credited back.

That's great! We will have to start checking out SW in the future!

Yes, we are on the Dec. 19th cruise. I can't wait to see the decorations for the holidays!

Hi,
I booked on-line, and too was leery of cancelling and rebooking. Overall, we were happy with what our original fares were, and didn't want to risk losing out altogether. (of course, it's nice to find a better fare, though, lol)

The other day I posted something similar to this post.

The long and short of it is that I booked at the $79 fare, and just 6 days later, the fare dropped to $49 for the return flight.
I called SW, and went about seeing how to get credit for the difference of $120 back onto our cc, not for future flights. It took a couple of calls, but we got it.

Here's the link if you're interested:

SW rebooked us at the $49 fare, without cancelling altogether and rebooking(does that even sound right? lol)

If they were to cancel and rebook, wouldn't the original money go back to my cc, then I'd have to go through the entire booking again? (which didn't happen)

I did get a new email from SW that had the $49 fare, which I printed out.

Happy Planning:)

:D I saved $40 the same way. Booked at $79 each way and then then it changed to $49 each way. I redid online and called SWA and they cedited my CC>:D

Thanks. I may try to call on Monday and just see if they will put all of it back on my credit card. It doesn't hurt to ask.:D

In the future I might call and see if Southwest can just change the fare for me without cancelling everything. Nice to know that they would do this for you.

Thanks again for the info.:D

Simply more examples of why we only fly SW, and why they are the only airline in the US making money. We love to fly SW.:earsboy:

Just wondering, will SW allow you to change your dates without penalty too? We are flying ATA in September, and if we could adjust without penalty, we would have decided to stay longer. But it wasn't worth the $50/ticket to do that.

Would SW allow you to shorten or lengthen your stay without charging a penalty?

Thanks!

DJ,

There is not a penalty. If the fare is different you have to pay the difference but there is not change fee.

WOW! I just may have to switch from ATA to SW for our future flying! Thanks!
