Just quit my job

I bet you could make a bit of cash going through your house and selling stuff. I purge frequently. Keeps me sane, the house cleaner, and some extra cash in the pocket.

Have fun this summer. I have 3 kiddos and spend most of my life driving them all over town for various activities. Hey, that's an idea...maybe offer to cart kids of working parents to swim lessons, soccer practices, etc. I always wondered how kids of families with 2 working parents get to that kind of stuff.

Welcome to the club! I quit my job back in September to care for my parents, I tell DH I am retired, but he won't believe me!

eeeew! A pooper scooper! I could let a dog out and scoop after cats, but that is my limit! I don't have a dog, because I cannot handle going behind them with a bag to grab their mess, not that I see enough owners doing that. That sounds like a good way to create a small part-time job. There is a woman who walks dogs past our neighborhood. That is another idea.

Thanks for the link! I've looked through Disney jobs before for fun, but I can't seem to find the right filters for a stay at home job. Any suggestions?

TIA!

Same here...it has been my understanding that Disney doe NOT hire at home workers so that serach wouldn't help you. I think they contract through outside companies like Arise..adn you will not get to work for Disney most likely. I did some research on them and it sounds like you pretty much get assignments, have to have a dedicated phone line, are an independent contractor and it's very difficult to get the good assignments like Disney Dining. If this is incorrect or there is another option I would love for someone to point me in the correct direction.

I am SURE I have seen it on the Disney careers link I posted not recently because I haven't looked few months BUT if there is an area on the site "contact us" I would inquire or call the job line I don't have the number off hand its an 800 number easy to find Good Luck and if I'm wrong well..learn something & re-learn something everyday right ?

While at-home job ads often turn out to be scams, there are indeed a few things you can do to earn some extra cash. If you live near a retirement area and feel you are savvy with computer literacy, the older generation is always looking for help with computers.

The generation of the 70-90 age folks usually need advice and help updating their computers, fixing issues and some really basic IT stuff. My parents are often asking someone to come over and do little things and they always pay about $50 for the time spent.

You could also advertise yourself as a 'Husband for Hire'. There are many, many elderly women out there who can't get up on a ladder to change the outdoor lights, put things in the attic, change out smoke alarm batteries. There is a huge need for help within our elderly community. You could charge a flat per hour rate and really help them out.

Another thing is to contact any local nanny/caregiver agencies. I used to own a nanny corporation and paid people to call and do reference checks.

The pet sitting is a great idea. Another would be to purchase a pressure washer and clean driveways.

All the best to you!

I know we always pay the neighbor's son who runs a landscaping business to cut our grass while we're on vacation. If you are all handy, yardwork or fix it type work might be a good option.

I just want to say have a great summer with your kiddos. DH was laid of in May of 2009. He spent that summer just being with us and really enjoying the summer with the kids. They were 5 and 7. He still talks about that time to this day as some of the best.

Hey Crisi, just wanted to say thanks for your post. I hang out on the community board and everyone seems to have these "uber" teens. all of them are together, never have an attitude, know exactly what they want to do in life. I swear I have major inferiority issues. LOL.

OP, best of luck with your new adventure.

Fantasyland does not only exist at Disney.

There is a poster on these boards, who I will not identify, she posts over and over about how well behaved her kids are etc..... I have seen her at Disney PROUDLY wearing her lime green Mickey Heads with her screen name on them...

Her children were HORRID! Throwing food at each other in a restaurant, SCREAMING, hitting their parents, running through the parks shoving people out of thier way etc... It was like watching one of those reality shows where the kids are totally out of control. And sadly I ran into this family several times. (Of course with the scene they were making they were hard to miss)

Came back and here she comes again "we had a great time and there were no issues with our kids, they were well behaved etc"

:lmao:

I think sometimes people either are clueless or post what they 'want' reality to be.

Work from home is very legit. Unfortunately discussions of them can not be public. Most companies are now turning to this type of system. You do need a dedicated phone line, computer, and a quiet work environment. You can either get your own business or join an existing corporation.

You do have expenses. You pay for your own background check and initial class. Then you have 90 days to start a class. Opportunities open throughout the year, but keep in mind jobs for the companies like cruise lines or retail have more classes in the fall due to seasonal business.

I have also seen the positions for the Disney Reservations Center on their website (and very recently) BUT those are for the positions that Disney hires for CMs to work in their own centers (I know there is one in Orlando and one in Tampa; think another but not sure). I have a friend who works at one and she is a full time CM with pay and benefits like the others.

There are also independent contractor positions that an outside source hires for and those people are not Disney CMs and do not have the same benefits/etc. I believe those jobs are for dining reservations only but I may be wrong. I know I have read posts from people who do this work.

Thanks for all the advice and points of interest in terms of activities. I have one week left but only working under my terms. I did sales by the way for a very large company. I offered to "help" this week with some stuff so one more paycheck for July. Going to have some fun beginning of July and then start looking. I have always helped the neighbors with their projects so charging now seems odd. And with the kids home with me don't know how much I could do away from home b/c they would need to come with. I started something fun this morning. We went to the playground... They played, I worked out, plyometrics, sprints, monkey bar pull ups etc. the girls were cheering me on. It was a hoot. I out my gym membership on hold till Sept!!

If you did sales then you might like doing online sales, either thru e-bay or etsy or maybe your own website where you sell an inexpensive product you have come up with. My cousin does this. He drew up a simple business plan and computer program for my aunt and uncle for their business - very customized to their line of work. He now sells it over the internet. Doesn't make him a ton of money but rather a little bit of extra pocket change ($100 - $200/mo).

No ideas for summer, but many schools find it hard to find substitute teachers and will hire college grads to sub.

Yes. I've seen the reservations careers on the website and they always state where the call centers are with no options for long distance employment. Like I said, I know Arise is one that does work with Disney Dining, but after seriously considering it and looking up reviews it seemed like the company had quite a lot of issues. I don't make much in my job, but they do pay the majority of health care and with the way things are in that regard, I am afraid to take the plunge and quit. DH already has a job where we pay for health insurance out of pocket, and he is facing a very expensive long term treatment, so am just looking at options at this point.

No advice really, just wanted to wish you luck. My husband just did the same thing, his last day was Friday. 14.5 years with the company and very little time with us, that was what prompted this move. He does have an online business that generates some money and is growing, but will be looking for something by August. For now, he is enjoying being home with our 10 year old DD, and getting some long overdue home projects done. I'm sure there will be some golf & fishing in the mix too! Quite a change from working 70 hours a week!

Disney outsources their call center work to Arise which you can work from home
