Just purchasing AKV

We are purchasing now for AKV but can't use our points this year at WDW. We're not purchasing many points as we have other timeshares. What is the best thing to do with the points since they'll expire before we go to WDW next year?

Are you sure that you are getting '08 points? If so, what is your use year? The reason that I am asking is that I have seen some posts recently about AKV purchase/add-ons that are for units in Kidani and they have an occupancy date of 5/1/09. That means that they can't use their points until 5/1/09.

I think that I also saw that they may be giving out some developers points (with a different name) to tide people over. If you are getting these points, then you can't bank them. In this case, you may want to rent them out.

My UY will be Sept or Oct, maybe Aug. I'll be a brand new DVC owner. In whatever month we pick for our UY we'll get the points then, plus we'll start with the same number of points that can be used at SSR or in the World Passport Collection.

OK. Maybe some of you experienced DVCer can give me some simple advice.

Here's our story:

We are buying DVC now, a pretty small account as we only want to travel to WDW every 3 years or so. We can't use any DVC property till Oct or Nov of next year. My plan is to buy now, use the points we get now for World Passport or rent them out I guess, because they're only good for a year.

Let's say our UY is Sept. So in Sep 08 we get our points, then we bank them into 09. We then use those banked points for an Oct/Nov 09 multi-unit trip, along with 09 points and borrowing 2010 points if necessary. Will this work?

Yes you can do that. You can bank the 08 and use the 09 and then you can borrow the 2010 to use in 2009.

I think that the current incentive gives you some amount of points to use at SSR within a year's time. I don't believe that you can bank those particular points, but certainly, you can bank your AKV points, if desired, to the next UY.
