Hello, Newbie here--
:yay: My daughter is closing on 170 BWV points which comes w/340 banked points. She would like to book a vacation week in March 2011 if possible, 1 BR. She has not gotten any membership # yet from DVC. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get your # once the deal closes? I thought I remembered someone saying you could call and get your # so as to make reservations sooner without waiting for your card to arrive from DVC. Can anyone lmk if there is any availability as of now for BWV 1BR for the end of March '11? She has tentatively taken the last week of March going into April as her vacation time from her work. Thank you for any info!

once you close, you will be in disney's system within 7-10 days. you can then call the 800-******** number and just ask them to look up your member ID using your social.

congrats on the purchase!!

FWIW, I think your daughter will be able to get a BWV 1 bedroom for that last week of March. She is unlikely to get a Boardwalk view or a Standard view, but a Pool/Garden view is a good possibility. 1 Bedrooms tend to book more slowly than studios and 2 bedrooms, so that is in her favor as well. (Easter isn't until 4/24/11 and the week before and after that are very busy. Other spring weeks are often busy, but nothing like the weeks surrounding Easter).

There's really no way to know what will be available until you call and actually book. Availability changes frequently. Tell your daughter not to be afraid to book another DVC resort as a back up and then waitlist for the 1 bedroom she prefers.

While she waits to get into the system, she can do a little research to see what other DVC resorts she might consider as a back up. It seems to take about a week after closing to get into the system and as already mentioned by dumbo_buddy, she can call MS and they can look her up without the actual membership number.

Booking a 1BR for late March/early April at only 3 months out may be tough to get.

It will be tough to get BWV at that time this close to the date. Last week of March, first week of April are high demand times -- those two weeks are typical spring weeks for schools that follow set week per year rather than one of the Easter Weeks for spring break. If not BWV, SSR might be possible.

Just a question: are you sure about the banked points in the contract? You cannot pssibly have 340 banked points in any one year with a 170 point contract (maximum points that could be banked into any one use year is 170).

As a recent example FYI, we closed Dec 7 on a resale and are still not in the system. We got the "7-10 days" e-mail, and then another saying we should call on the 21st that same day. But we definitely closed on the 7th, so needless to say it takes a while...

Are you sure? Someone else just told me the same thing. I was looking to by DVC but not sure if it's something we are going to do based on a recent experience:rolleyes1. Still learning so please excuse my ignorance:goodvibes

If you have only 170 points, you cannot bank more than that for that particular use year. There are only so many to bank, ie. the number that you own.

At any one time, though, you can have banked one year, use the current year and borrow the next year. So it is possible to achieve that number, but not banking 340 in one year.

Sorry I don't know all the rules of this. Points included in the sale were 170 from '09, 170 from '10, and all '11 points. She had to pay maint on the '11 points as part of the closing, the other points were included without any fees. Use year is June, I think. So maybe only the '09 points are banked? She has a very busy schedule at work and it is hard to wrangle vacation time, she already has the last week of March into April on reserve, so that's why I was asking about it. She went last May and stayed at BWV and really loved it. Hubby and I were supposed to join her and DH, DS, but I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in April, and was under treatment in May. Her DH's parents went instead. So she is trying very hard to do this, mainly for me. I am Stage 4 OVCA, now finished treatment for 3 weeks now, a wonderful Christmas gift.
Thank you all for your insight and advice!

:grouphug:Best wishes to you, Rose. Here's hoping she can get a villa for the last week in March into April and that you're well enough to enjoy it with her!!!! Epcot's Flower Show will be going on then and it's a great time to be in WDW.

I've been trying repeatedly for March 2011 for BWV 1BRs. Had 2 ressies previously for boardwalk view 1BRs but recently cancelled for larger accommodations at Kidani. Then My friend said she wanted the BWV ressies back instead of the standard view Kidani (means parking lot view at Kidani) so tried next day to get the BWV rooms back. Someone was on wait list for my BWV 1BRs and my ressies were instantly snapped up. Everyone wants to stay there because of F&G at Epcot, spring breaks starting with Canadian spring breaks early March, then USA spring breaks remainder of March 2011. Was advised only availability now was SSR, OKW and standard views at Kidani AK at this point for most of March 2011. May want to reserve one of those others then she would have option to wait list up to 2 specific room categories, ie BWV standard and BWV boardwalk view. Refurb of the slide at BWV in March means can use Stormalong pool at BCV increasing the demand but the refurb may mean eyesore or noise from work done in pool area - always that risk too. Good luck for your daughter - she should have fun wherever she ends up staying on the Disney property but planning well ahead is really so necessary with DVC ownership.

Yes, if she has a June UY, that is likely the case. She would have a total of 340 points available: 170 from 2009 + 170 from 2010. If that's the case, she could also borrow up to 170 more from 2011 if she needed to.

One thing you should caution her about is to be SURE when she makes a reservation that the banked points are used first. If she has a June UY, she will still be within her banking window for the 2010 points until the end of January, so she should use the banked 2009 points first and then bank any unused 2010 points.

MS is supposed to use banked points first automatically, but that does not always happen. Tell her to take the time at the end of her reservation call to re-check the points to be sure as few 2010 points are used as possible, and then bank the unused points so she doesn't forget.

Thank you all for your replies. Have not yet heard that closing is done yet, former owners are from England. I will call the TS co tomorrow to see what's up.

I dont remember how long the whole process took. It seemed to take a long time from the day that Disney passed on ROFR- maybe 6 weeks?? I do remember the first day when I called and found out we were in the system and were able to finally make a reservation- September 11, 2001.

When we closed on our resale I called MS daily to see if we were in the system. We were in much sooner than anticipated...don't remember the exact time frame since it was five years ago, just remember doing the happy dance. Good luck to you and your daughter.

I hear so many stories of people getting having more luck this year than in previous years; (economy? tourism down?)

I recently closed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and was in the system the following Tuesday...with my number the next day. 7 Days. It may have been a light period for them, as this went pretty quick from closing to being in the system.
