Well this is a first cruise for myself and both DD... DH has been on a boat before. We had a check in time of 11AM and were there early since we used the Park n Cruise service. Cudos to them for less then half of what disney charges we parked, got on a shuttle and were at the port and checking in by11am. We got boarding number 4 so were on the boat and eating lunch at Cabanas by 11:45am. The kiddies were riding the Aquaduck by 12:30.

Our room was a deluxe verranda was fantastic and I do not think i would ever be able to do an inside cabin from being spoiled with the views we had. The girls (8 and 10) did the club everyday and had fun, they both had sign out privilages and it worked out well. Our house rule was both in both out or else the sign out goes away and they managed to do this without killing each other.

We had Sheree(server) from the Philippines and Francesco(asst. server) from Spain as our wait staff. Lubo from Bulgaria was the one in charge of it all at the restaurants. As a trio they worked very well together and I could not have imagined better service. I felt the genuinely cared about what we thought of the food and made sure the girls where treated little princesses.

Our room steward was fantastic and within an hour he knew my family unit and everyone's names. He would inquire where the others were by name I was blown out of the water by this as I have a slight name issue(can barely remember my own never mind a bunch of strangers over few days). His name was really different but he signed the girls autograph books as Ike from Bali Indonesia.

To top of a great 4 day trip out at sea we were chosen as a Magical Famliy and were given one of the round booths at the Enchanted Garden. Many different kinds of snacks sent to the room. We received a plate of cookies, a cheese platter, and a plate full of petit fours with chocolate covered strawberries. We were also treated to a package that included float, snorkel equipment and bike rentals on Castaway.

The best thing the girls loved was the FE swap we took part in.

Any questions fire away....keeping in mind my vacation is not finished as we are doing Universal Studios and the first Not So Scary Halloween Party on the 13 so I will answer just may take a day or 2.

Will be on our first Disney Cruise on Oct. 2 and we have a 12:00 boarding time. Since it is our first experience, is the boarding expirence total chaos or is there order?
How does one become a Magical Family?(Just thought I'd ask)pirate:

Glad to hear you had a great cruise. A few people have been coming back from the Dream saying it was less than magical.

We are thinking about doing Park 'n Cruise. What time did you get to their lot? Did the shuttle have to drop off passengers from other cruise lines before they took you to the DCL terminal?

When I registered on line, it only ask me if I wanted to give my child age 10 check out priviledges?

I have another younger child, age 6. I was not asked the question about the 6 year old.

I would not want the 6 year old to check out by herself, but if she was leaving with her brother to meet us back at the room/restaurant etc. that would be ok.

Is this possible to do?

Glad you had such a great time. We are Canadian too and really liked many things about the Dream. The one serious negative we had was the quiet cove area for adults. Very limited pool seating, it's in the shade most of the day and families are cutting through and often dipping in the pool constantly.

Not that we are not family friendly, it's just a purpose built area for "getting away from it all" and doesn't provide that atmosphere like the classic ships.

We are going on the Fantasy in 2012 so I guess we didn't mind it that much ;)

after you boarded and had lunch you said that you were riding Aquaduck. That's pretty cool and probably less crowded than later in the cruise.

If you don't mind my asking, what did you do with your clothes and carry-ons while you were enjoying the pool before your stateroom was ready? Are there changing rooms available?

Thanks

Will be on our first Disney Cruise on Oct. 2 and we have a 12:00 boarding time.

Just to clarify...12:00 would be your port arrival time, not your boarding time. At the terminal you will receive a boarding number and groups will board starting with #1 (concierge and platinum Castaway Club members), followed by #2, #3 and so on.

Only children 8+ are allowed to have check themselves in/out. They will not let your 10 year check her out.

Ditto the question on how you became a magical family!

Also, if i don't have any status at all, what time should I arrive at port?

My experience (with other cruiselines)) is that all lines get processed at the same time (while admittedly Suite and High-status individuals get processed faster with shorter lines).

Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation! Just to clarify, Disney does not charge the outrageous port parking fees...that fee is set by the port itself, not the cruise lines which sail from the port.

On our January Panama Canal Cruise, we gave permission for our 6yo DD to check in and out of the clubs WITH her 11yo brother. We talked to the youth activities staff in the clubs once we were onboard.

The kids were under strict instructions as to where they could be. i.e. they could check themselves in, but on checking out they had to go back to the stateroom or to us directly if they knew we were at another part of the ship.

This was our kids 3rd cruise on the Magic/Wonder class ships and they are both independent kids, so we felt comfortable with this arrangement. We also knew that in reality they would be in the clubs until closing and then would have to come back to the room.

How we were chosen as a Magical family is beyond my blonde skills to manage...just lucky I guess nice for a change. There are more then one but not sure if it's 10 or 5 or50 per cruise.

Park and cruise.... we booked online and hit a special 5$per day...we arrived at park and cruise around 9:20 but where then asked to please come back at 10:00am. You off load in a covered garage the shuttle picks you up and drops people of in some kind of order... they did drop off a couple at carnival before the rest of the shuttle at Disney.

We had a check in time of 11am.....were in the terminal and through check in with a boarding number of 4 by 11:10am...and boarded and eating as stated by 11:45.

There was me and my husband as well as our 2DD'S who were able to ride together so we watched the carry ons ....although we did see alot if bags just hanging about on deck and seemed fine there with out strangers going thru things they should not have been.

Queen of Oakville have you done your online check in yet>>?? Omce you do that you will have a port arrival time. If not i would guess just go when ever you wish then.

Glad you had a great cruise! I've had Ike as a room steward before and he is GREAT!

Can't wait for my turn on the DREAM! :goodvibes

.

What a fabulous trip and how cool Disney designates "magical families." How special that must have been! I can only imagine your surprise.

Glad you had a great trip. My first trip on the Dream is this Sunday. Can't wait!

I think I've seen Ike starring in a youtube video with a little boy. It was really cute. I'll post it, if I can find it.

Thanks for the update and sounds like a wonderful trip! We are using Park n cruise so I was glad to see arriving at 10am gave enough time for an 11am check in at port.

It sounds like a "Dream" trip. I am glad you all had a wonderful time. We were on the Dream in March and can't wait to go back in January.

We had Sheree, Francesco and Lubo too...on the exact same cruise as you. We were in the second seating...and we thought the service was very very slow. Sheree was good, but Francesco seemed soo off that constantly Sheree was yelling at him. It got to the point where towards the end of the cruise, Francesco was only cleaning up and bringing out water while Sheree did everything. I felt bad for Francesco because I could tell he was trying...but wasnt able to get anything right. He seemed more busy trying to pose with people in pictures and chit chat...rather than work. At one point we were trying to take our family pic in Enchanted Garden, and he just came and said...hey you want me in your picture too?? And we were like "uh....OK I guess". Later we found out he wanted Lubo to know that people were happy with his service so he started asking families to take his pic with them...instead of the other way around. :confused3
