Just off the 7 Night Mediterranean, Any Questions?

Per above, we are a DIY family. Bergen: we prebooked funicular online one way for about $20 for family of 4. Planned on doing Funicular up, hiking down and then the Hanseatic Museum. It poured rain, so we didn't do the funicular. We did the H Museum and also a Bergen/ Norway museum we passed walking. Bergen is a good place to walk around. The H museum has 3 parts (you have to pay for all). Medieval house, H headquarters, and then a shuttle bus to a good fishing/ocean life museum on the outskirts of town. It was a good 10-2 day, esp. given the rain.
We LOVE Barcelona. Beautiful city. I would not have any qualms about B. We really like Fat Tire bikes tours in B. Good for tweens and older. Have done it 2X.
Can you walk from the cruise port to the funicular?

I'm glad you posted as I am about to have my TA tranfer our ObB to the 9/2 med sailing for 2017.
We have 6 of us to fly over so we will have to do connecting OV rooms on deck 1 and that has me hesitant as we usually sail in connecting ver rooms. Can you elaborate on your room? Lots of motion down there? Feel like you were in steerage? Lol

Yes you can it's a 20 minute walk. It was 16.00 total for the four of us. We walked down the mountain and back to port. You can also walk up if you want a good workout.

I am excited about seeing Barcelona and the cruise. My only real hesitation is traveling alone to a foreign country. I know once we are there we will have a great time!
I assume by traveling alone you mean the only adult. I'm traveling with just my two kids. You should be fine.

I don't know if this is an option for you or not, but you might want to check into doing the Adventures by Disney 3-night pre-cruise adventure in Barcelona.

https://www.adventuresbydisney.com/europe/3-night-barcelona-vacations/

They'll meet you at the airport, transport you to your hotel, take care of all of the logistics, provide you with some amazing excursions and meals, and then transport you to the ship to start your cruise. It would certainly be the least stressful way to arrive in a foreign country!

Sayhello

2k a person for 3 days, and I though DCL was expensive.

Just booked our first cruise ever as a celebration for each of our parents anniversaries - 50th &25th. Can't wait to cruise the Med with our party of 9. The port planning is a little exhausting! Love to read everything you'll share about your trip. Cheers!

what I do to ease the anxiety for international travel:
book a private transfer from the airport to my hotel (with someone holding your name on a sign right as you come out of customs). We did this when we arrived late into Paris and also for my 80 yr old MIL in London. I'm sure there are such services in BCN. The easiest place to inquire is the hotel that you are staying at in BCN. You can also inquire of the hotel if they have any tours that will pick you up at the hotel. Many do. We have done this. So, you would have private transfer to hotel, tour either group or private, depending on your budget) that picks you up at the hotel the next day and then the following day a taxi arranged by the hotel to the port. Viator.com is a good place to start for getting an idea of costs and what there is to do in BCN, as well as other cities. This costs only a few hundred dollars total over the hotel cost.

4 days (3 nights). It's definitely not for everyone.

Sayhello
It's definitely not for people in my tax bracket. I'm sure it's wonderful, but 8k for a family of four for 3 nights and 4 days. I think that would be very expensive by most peoples standards. I'm guess there's enough people that can afford it or Disney wouldn't do it.

Just to add Disney has hotel packages and transportation to hotel and port. They will take care of everything for you even airfare.
My kids and I arrived in London a few days before my dh and took the metro from LHR into the city to our hotel, and then took the train to Dover. I was a little nervous about all of this but "Disney Fantasy" kept saying how easy this was and he was right it was. I'm glad I did it because I feel confident doing the same thing in Athens and Barcelona. I've decided if I'm going to travel internationally I need to learn how to travel like a local.

I was actually worried that I would feel like we were in steerage lol. But we did not at all! I loved the location. It was so quite as there's few rooms on the 1st floor. We were close to the forward elevator. I felt less motion down there than on higher decks. We only had one day/night of rocky seas. I will try to post a picture of the room when I get home later.

I will be posting a trip report shortly!

thinking of doing this in 2018, have lots of questions, will be back later :)

Yes it is just me and my son. We do love to travel so it will be an adventure!

I was thinking of doing a day tour upon arrival so maybe that will be a good idea. I am also going to look into what Disney has to offer as far as hotel and pick up at airport.

Here's a pic of the port holes. Sorry about the bags on the bed. We were just excited to finally put them down!
