hey

Me (27) and my partner (21) just got off our first cruise on the magic around the med and it was just brilliant and totally magic

The shows we loved, the service was unreal. Our server at night actually had I plan B he told us in case we never liked something and come out with loads of courses and also knew what I was going to order before I told him lol

The staff really did make it so magical for us

I was worried there would be to many screaming kids everywhere but with adult only areas we never had any issues at all

The only two wee things I would say is

On one of the sea days they were doing some work on top deck a lot of drilling etc which can be a pain if trying to relax

And other thing was I no it's free soda but whys it not free in the shows, room service etc I felt it should be free everywhere on the ship

However we really did love it and we have Mexico for two weeks booked next year but we are thinking of cancelling and doing the Disney Magic around Norway ? What would you do between the two ? And what will weather be like in Norway at end of June ?

Also can I use my placeholder on this cruise ?

We really are stuck on what to do there any could do with some advice lol

We just wish we were on the ship right now

But We will definitely but sticking with dcl anyway :)

While I can't answer all of your questions ( Soon to be a first time cruiser here) I'm glad that you all had fun!

Sodas dispensed via a soda machine (fountain) dispenser are included in your cruise fare. That's the sodas/beverages at the drink stations poolside & in the buffet.

Sodas dispensed via a bartender come out of a can, and have a charge. Room service - also a can.

Depending on when you purchased the placeholder, yes you can designate it for a Norway cruise. A placeholder reservation must be used on a cruise with 24 months of the original date you purchased the placeholder.

I believe the soda comes in a can when you order it in the theater or from room service. Be happy that some is included (technically not "free") in the cost of your cruise, because most cruise lines charge for soda.

Unless your trip to Mexico is in the winter - I'd choose Norway in the summer. I sailed to Norway on Royal Caribbean in mid-June 2012. and I'd love to cruise there again. My May Magic Transatlantic stopped in Stavanger and Oslo, but it wasn't specifically a Norway cruise.

As far as weather, my cruise sailed beyond the Arctic Circle, so it was pretty cold. DCL doesn't go that far north, but it could still be pretty chilly if you spend time on deck while the ship is moving. You'll have sun until very late in the evening, and it may not set at all close to the summer solstice.

The crew is always repairing and repainting and cleaning the ship. That's what they keep everything ship shape.

As for using your place holder, are there any black out dates involved?

Norway is very pricey. Have you cost-compared the DCL cruise with other lines?

Yeah I understand they are always working to keep it nice, maybe they should do it very early morning or a non sea day, it was only a minor thing anyway

Not looked to much as I was wanting to go for dcl after such a great experience

I would go to the warm place.

I believe that this year's first cruises that involved places like Norway were changed around because of too many icebergs in the ocean. Looks like you're in Scotland? Seems you might know the weather in that general area more than many of us Americans would. :)

It isn't included because they don't want it to be included.

As far as soda at the theater, you can always fill a cup at the refill station and take that with you. If you like a large cup, get yourself a large cup with a lid and fill that with the smaller cups at the drink station (for sanitary reasons) and take that with you. If you like snacks at the movies pack some from home and take to the theater with you. They don't MAKE you buy from the theater snack station, it is there as a convenience for those who want it. Now, when it comes to the fresh popcorn outside the theater, that may be a problem cause the smell will get to you and you will probably want some. But it is better than the prepackaged stuff they used to sell there.

Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time! There are some trip reports and pictures from folks who took the Norway cruise on the Magic and loved it, you might want to take a look at those. Enjoy your future DCL cruises! :sail:

A lot of your questions were answered already, but I have two I still wanted to weigh in on.

I would do Norway, no question. Maybe it is because I live in the U.S., but Mexico doesn't have that much appeal for me, especially with travel advisories in some areas (not sure what area you planned on visiting.)

In terms of using your onboard booking, it depends. The July 13
Iceland/Norway cruise is blacked out, but the other Norway cruises appear to be eligible.

We are booked to go to cancun in May but we just can't decide wether to change it for a Disney cruise around Norway as we really did enjoy it

We are soooo stuck on what to do

Where do I find these pics :)

If you are still in Scotland I would do Mexico, I cruised Scandinavia with P&0 (Also worked in Stavanger for a while) and it is OK, really expensive and imo it is not the same as two weeks in the Carribean. People are mheh about Mexico here as of course it is "just across the water".

Have you looked at doing one of the cruises from here that go to Mexico, two birds with one stone?

Mexico in May would be too hot for me, and two weeks on one island would be overkill, in my opinion. You probably don't get much hot weather in Scotland, but I'd still choose Norway for the natural beauty. Either that - or Alaska.

Glad you liked the Med cruise, did it last year a loved it.

As for the construction noise maybe it was some prep work getting ready for the dry dock, which is where the Magic was going after your cruise.

We've been to Cancun (Riviera Maya) twice and will be back this December. We also did DCL Magic 9-night Norway and 12-night Norway, Iceland, Scotland back-to-back. Contrary to what a PP stated, our itineraries were not changed due to icebergs - that only happened on the transatlantic crossing from FL.

Mexico vs. DCL Norway - two VERY different, but fantastic trips!!! It really depends on what you are looking for in a vacation. Cancun will be beach, relaxing. Norway is a lot of touring in BEAUTIFUL places! Our cruises were from June 20 - July 10. The weather was very pleasant. We wore long pants and layers (t-shirts, light sweaters and jackets) most of the time. To give you an idea of how much we liked it - we were originally only booked on the 9-night but we were enjoying it so much, we booked the 11-night, spur of the moment, while onboard the 9-night cruise. We got the very last stateroom available! We also booked the DCL Magic 7-night Portugal/Spain, 12-night Med cruise back-to-back for next summer. We, too, love cruising Europe on the Magic!

I know, it's a really hard decision. They are both great destinations. Just very different trips!

Yeah it really is so hard I don't no what to do

We did think of doing a Disney cruise near Mexico but after flights and Disney prices it to costly for us

So it's one or the other but just don't no

So on the Norway cruise, I take it u won't be able to sit on deck and catch the sun ?

The carribean does sound great but get the feeling I might get there and wish I done Disney

I never thought we would enjoy the cruise so much lol

You will have a LOT of sun in Norway - as in, it never seems to set! However, it's definitely not Caribbean weather. We had one day in the 70's (Fahrenheit) and my DS7 did the Aquadunk a few times. There were still a ton of people on deck catching rays, however most were in long pants, sweaters and some days they even put blankets out for people. DCL still kept the pools and hot tubs open. I think the averages for western Norway that time of year are in the upper 50's, low 60's Fahrenheit.

Norway, hand down. LOVED it. We were early June, so it was chilly, but our last sea day was sunny and really nice. This year was one of the coldest/wettest springs in 30 years or something too. I would bet end of June next year would be better. They did have blankets and such available on deck (which was nice for me to stay warm while my crazy dd was swimming). And I LOVED the daylight, pretty much never "dark". We booked a navigator's veranda, which blocked a lot of the wind due to being enclosed, so it was really nice to sit on and take in the scenery. And it is just BEAUTIFUL cruising. Especially into Geiranger. Just gorgeous. All of the ports were walkable too (we were docked right in downtown or very close). As to cost, Norway is expensive (as in buying things in port). We just made sure to always eat on the ship and that really helped the cost. The cruise isn't cheap either, but worth every penny, IMO. They had a professor on board who specialized in viking history who did talks in the evenings that I particularly enjoyed.

We were on the second 12 night Baltic cruise this July and it was cold. I was wearing gloves and scarfs daily, but like a PP mentioned it was the unusually cold for the Baltic, while the rest of Europe was having a heatwave.

The July sailing of the Norway it is blocked out just like our Med and Greece cruise next summer. We were still able to receive the 10% deposit and the $200 OBB, just not the 10% of the price of the cruise. Hopefully one day we will pick a cruise that isn't blacked out. :)
