First-time renter with the jitters...

I paid the deposit for rented points two weeks ago and was given a confirmation number by the renter.

What number can I call to verify that the reservation was actually made?

Thanks.

Call 1-800-800-9800 and press option 3 twice. When a Cast Member answers, ask the Cast Member at Member services to confirm that a reservation is in place with the confirmation number given you by the person you have rented from.

Don't worry minnieme2002,

You are not the only one to want to doble check the ressie. I did this as well before making the final payment when I rented point last Oct.

MS is not supposed to talk to non members so this is not a reliable way and does not preclude the member from changing the reservation later if they chose.

Yep

I agree i would do the same but also when i sell point i would require payment in full.

The trust is a two way street after all the reservation is being made unser someone else membership what if the party that you sold to goes nuts in the room even if it is in there name your name is still there as well.

Also Make sure you get the reservation # a contact person and the meber you rented or got the points or reservation from..

Ask for the proof if he/she did make a reservation he will get a confirmation letter with the dates arrival departure points used and reservation number

Good Luck

Not eveyone is all bad

BY the way i have points for sale as well

I am also considering renting points and am nervous. I understand its a two way street. Has anyone used an escrow service and what is the cost involved? Also is there a way I can check a registry or something to prove the person offering is actually an owner at dvc?

Heck, I never thought about someone trying to rent points and not be a DVC owner.

My suggestion is to ask the owner if he/she has rented points before and can they offer references, although anybody who rents out points has to start somewhere. Other than that, the only thing I can think of is to wait until you receive a copy of the ressie.....but that all takes time. Even then, that doesn't assure that the owner won't still take the money and cancel the ressie.

Ask Doc. He has pointed out several times that there have been (no) few problems here on the disboards.

Escrow services generally will not handle transactions involving real property or timeshare rentals.

We rented points to stay at OKW from a DVC member. I felt the SAME way about renting, and wouldn't even tell my husband about the whole arrangement in case it fell through! Anyway, the person we rented from gave us his membership # so we could confirm. He made the reservation in our name, but with his number. I called the 800 number three times to confirm, and kept a backup Quality Suites reservation till the week we left.

Anyway, we had no problems at all. In fact, while doing my homework, I didn't come across anyone who had had problems renting. My biggest warning to you would be to come with your credit card, 'cuz once you stay at a DVC resort, you're going to want to join DVC! We did! Good luck!

If you want to get an idea about the person (either the renter or the rentee) you can always do a search (when it is working) on the Dis Board for all of the posts of that person. Reading the things that a person says will give you an accurate idea of what a person is like. It also may confirm whether a person really is a DVC member or not.
