Hi all,

I just need to vent and commiserate with fellow dissers who I know feel the same way.

To make a very lss, as someone in the entertainment industry (though slowly transitioning out of it or to a different side of it), I am happy to say that live performance is back. I am in a show, then two days after that closes I’m in a cabaret, and then I’m producing a show that goes up end of April.

We are currently planning our fall land and sea trip, and everything keeps changing on a daily basis that I’m ready to just scream because I’m the planner, as in I am the one making every reservation, every plan. Everything.

Who doesn’t like Epcot except for dinner that I have to reserve them only at EPCOT, who has to do this, who wants that, who doesn’t fly, who has this. Are we sure this human is coming, who isn’t going on the cruise. Meanwhile, I’m lucky I’m remembering lines on stage. Something I have a freaking degree in. I can’t concentrate because everyone keeps asking me questions and ignoring me when I say don’t bother me.

I TOLD everyone in my family to not bother me until after the cabaret (early April) and yet every day is something new. We can’t do a lot for the cruise part until a certain point and same with reservations and what not. But I need ti know if people are coming or not.

On top of that the complaints about pricing (inflation is something people in my family don’t seem to comprehend), and it’s like “well if you want to do the dessert party do you want to sit in grass or on chairs?” And while I agree if it were less people it would be more feasible to do other things, I’m just so done.

The trip is MONTHS away and people can’t comprehend to leave me alone because if I’m not at work I’m at rehearsal. If I’m not at rehearsal I’m sleeping.

I love Disney, I’m excited for the land and sea trip, but I just need TIME before I dive in!

I hope I can commiserate with others.

And thanks for letting me rant

First of all, corgratulations on your work and the show you are producing - that's very cool and must be exciting! And, yeah, planning trips with family can be the worst. For me, I have the opposite problem, where nobody wants to plan ahead or tell me ANYTHING. It drives me crazy. It's like, you can't just walk up and do this stuff without reservations! On the plus side, they rarely complain about costs. Still, if you're the one doing all the planning they need to respect your wishes. If they have so many issues, maybe they should just opt-out. I'm sure it'll all work out though - enjoy your trip once it comes!

Thank you!

My body is not used to it (at least not like it used to-I got ten hours of sleep every day this weekend!) and producing a show holy smokes. You truly do not need a business or marketing degree to learn the business side of things that is for sure!

I just need like…..a hot minute. You know what I mean? Like I even took my opening night off work (I try not to or I take a half day). It’s just too much at once!

Both things are amazing, but vacationing with a group, especially somewhere like Disney where you have to plan every moment of every day, is honestly a nightmare so feel free to vent! Just remember it's ok to set boundaries, and congrats!

Have all that may go on the trips with you write a letter about all you need to know. That way you get everything you need from them without them constantly bugging you. If something changes, they can send you another letter the following month. That should help release some of the pressure and annoyance.

We vacationed as a group back in 2019 (never again with two of the humans who came with us-at least his time will be all family and only a few are on the cruise portion).

I feel like everywhere lately is just such intense planning I hate it.

I will say at least this time we are limiting ADRs and events and such. No MNSSHP, 3 must do restaurants/meals.

It also sucks because even with the cruise as it’s our first Disney one we can’t do a lot right now. But it does give me breathing room

Also? Hell yes to the Mrs.CobraBubbles. Love it!

I did that in 2019 and sadly it did not work.

Thankfully as I mentioned in a previous comment my mom set a firm boundary and is taking over for the next couple of weeks. Gives me some breathing room!

Planning for just about anything has really gotten out of control. You need reservations for EVERYTHING - and it's all app driven. Look at your phones, look at your phones - the system dictates that we look at our phones!

The phones annoy me the most. And I’m a millennial who has to use it for every aspect of my life from filming to constantly answering emails to texting a supervisor to my calendar to recording rehearsals.

I appreciate the convenience at certain areas and certain times, but it’s annoying.

I’m sick of receiving emails from a pub my friend and I ate at by MSG before we saw Elton John last year. Like it’s annoying I had to pay by phone because my junk mail gets bombarded by this place (shame because the food was good too).

And what makes it worse is some of these places don’t care. My cousin is graduating college in May and her university kept CHANGING THE DATES AND TIMES….thankfully she lives in housing off campus so we will just stay at her place for the one or two nights with air mattresses but it’s still annoying because no one could book hotels in this college town because they kept changing everything! These poor students and their families had to take multiple unnecessary days off because of the colleges stupidity

Phones have become a menace. I HATE when places make you use them - QR code for the menu, pay by phone. Need a reservation? Use your phone. Walk up to the place and they have plenty of tables? Go on your phone and make a reservation - you know, because that is the system. Reserve this. Reserve that. If you don't you won't get in! Buy your movie tickets the SECOND they go live, or all the good seats will sell out. When do they go live? Oh, nobody knows - just randomly in the middle of the night. They went up at 2:47 AM, and even though I checked at 3 AM, somehow they already all sold because people somehow knew to buy them.

Sometimes I don't get the world! Now I'm the one venting. 🙂

The QR code I have a love hate relationship with lol. Though I have seen them used for good (friends who are teachers place QR codes for extra credit and fun things at school for example) but other times they annoy me.

I am also someone who was taught to have something physical on me. And I’m not talking ID. I’m talking there are secret stashes of $20 and lower bills all over my car, that I need paper tickets (although the phone has eased my mind incase I forget plus just go to the box office for certain things), etc. but with the way the world is going there is no point anymore.

i havent been to a movie since 2019 but i tendes to avoid opening weekend or went at off times to avoid the chaos.

and I think all this venting is the full moon (though im grateful spring is here!)

Oh you know, this stuff CAN be used for good - it just so often isn't. QR Menus came around during COVID because nobody wanted to handle anything anyone else touched! 😮 But what about the silverware and plates, and the table and.... So, really, it's just places saving money on printing menus. Come on!

It's like when Disney was forcing Mobile Order after the pandemic - it was so frustrating because everyone was doing it hours and hours in advance, making it impossible to get anything. That has evened out now, and Mobile Order can be pretty useful at times, but walk-up should always be an option.

Recently I was on a business trip and Google Maps told me that there were two Starbucks in close proximity, about the same distance, one North and one South. I am walking to the North one when I realize that I must have gone too far - I didn't see it. I check the map and realise it's a little off the street. Well, when I find it, it's a pickup only location - must order on the app! Grrrr! I don't want ot use the app for the 3 times a year I actually get Starbucks. Anyway, I walk to the other one, that is a regular cafe and everything was fine. Still annoying!

QR Menus came around during COVID
They were common enough around us before covid but they exploded in usage during it. I would say it was more like places that didn't used to have them suddenly did so even your steakhouses had them.

A bar and grill style place and you would have been more likely to encounter them pre-covid, a bar also that. In part having them on a QR code also helps with rotating items especially beer.

The thing we've noticed now more with bar and grill places or more bar-style places with less focus on foods are the pricing is being less and less listed on the menus likely due to how volatile the costs can be this day. But it does annoy us. We recently ordered an app sampler at a bar style place which was very generous in size but we would not have ordered it had we known it would have been $32, guess we could have asked though how much it was.

32 bucks for an appetizer? Yikes!

Oof. I am sorry you're going through this. I faced something similar planning a family trip (for my husband's side) back in 2015. People wanted to know ALL of their options (kind of a "i think I'll know what I want when I see it") but the reality is that the amount of options were overwhelming, then they couldn't decide.
And I made all the reservations except for one group because they knew a travel agent who was offering a gift card if you booked through them and they wanted the gift card. Then they kept coming to me wanting me to change their reservation/add requests, etc. "I cannot do anything with your reservation. You have to go through your travel agent." Then they seemed to be annoyed at me because I was doing these things for everyone else (even though I wished I wasn't doing it for anyone!)... but, duh, I had access to their reservations. No matter how many times I tried to explain it, they just didn't seem to get it. They thought I was being obstinate/refusing to help out of spite (note: I am not a travel agent. I am just the family "details" person. I did not make any money from anybody's trip.) And apparently, after the original booking, their travel agent wasn't very responsive, so they regretted using him... and it made a whole lot of hassle for me, that their reservation was different than the rest of ours.

Anyway -- I kind of had to set a day of the week and say "I can talk about the trip on Sundays... if you have something you need to tell me, let's talk on Sunday. Don't just randomly text me while I'm at work and expect me to do it/remember it. At minimum, follow up with me on Sunday to see if I've done it." Your schedule sounds like it might not be as "regular" as mine... but maybe you can find a time that will work. (or if nothing else, you can start a list of things to look into after your cabaret is over.)
