Just need to note....

Maybe I am all wrapped up in myself, but I sometimes I just read and don't have anything to post (hard to believe, I know..).

I agree.

I have no direct relation or anything to Haiti but I'm still sorry for what they're going through. I'm sorry for pain and suffering anyone's going through in the entire World, big or small. (Just like I wasn't coming on here saying how sorry/saddened I was that Haiti is such a poor, crime ridden place before the earthquake). Just because people aren't posting frowny faces or letting everyone on the DIS know that they are praying for people doesn't mean they don't do these things.

I have been thinking about these people since I first heard of the tragedy - just because I don't post something doesn't mean I don't care. :confused3

And while it is great that everyone is rallying around the country and making monetary donations, I would first like to know where and how much of the actual money will get to the victims. Call me a cynic, but I recently found out that we may have been scammed ($25) by a group claiming they were collecting funds to send boxes to our troops - I am still waiting to see if the group is for real.

Unfortunately I don't think all the money and items will go to where they are most desperately needed.

And no, I am not a heartless person as we give to a lot of local charities - I just want to make sure that the right people are being helped.

Jill

Agreed. And I don't think this is heartless or cynical at all.

Sometimes there just are no words, no icons, no nothing that can even begin to convey the depth of feeling one has for a tragedy of this magnitude. I was one of those who just had no way to say what I felt.

I agree. A disaster of this magnitude is really too serious for just small talk to me. If there is some useful information to share as far as helping, that's a good thing, but otherwise, there's nothing I can say that is going to help. I only wish that there could be. :guilty:

Me too. I really don't understand the connection between not posting something on a message board = not caring about an international tragedy.

I'm glad I wasn't alone in this.

I felt this way too when I read the thread last night. Didn't want to respond cause it wasn't pretty what I was thinking.

Maybe other sites were visited yesterday morning about the devastation and it just wasn't posted here. I know I checked out a news site yesterday morning. Was totally aware of what was going on/what happened. They have been in my prayers ever since. Speaking for myself....I knew and didn't post something here so I guess that makes me an uncaring, mean person who only wants to gossip or whatever? :confused3

:thumbsup2 ITA. To me, it's apparent that we all care about this, very much. And look! We're posting about it! ;)

All I'm going to say is that not everyone on the Dis posts only on the Dis. I'm sure there are people besides me who go elsewhere for serious discussions. Frankly with the bans on debate, politics and religion, you pretty much have to. The gradual "watering down" of the CB that's happened over time has caused it to become mainly about fluff.

So just because I'm not posting here about this enormous tragedy, it doesn't mean I'm not posting about it anywhere. And I can't be the only one here who is in the same boat.
