I didn't want to hijack the original thread where someone basically made a statement that insulted all of us.

It was essentially that we didn't care about something because there wasn't a thread on it yet.

True, but irrelevant. Whether there actually was no thread or there was but the poster just missed it doesn't make the statement less insulting. The implication is also that even if there is a thread, then everyone that DIDN'T post on it didn't care.

Me too. I actually made a comment, and the OP didn't really get it. We come to the DIS to get away from the world - that's why there is such crazy nonsense here. Out there in the real world is the serious stuff. I read all morning, I make my donations - then I come here to relax and get insulted that I wasn't here posting crying smilies....

I have been thinking about these people since I first heard of the tragedy - just because I don't post something doesn't mean I don't care.

And while it is great that everyone is rallying around the country and making monetary donations, I would first like to know where and how much of the actual money will get to the victims. Call me a cynic, but I recently found out that we may have been scammed ($25) by a group claiming they were collecting funds to send boxes to our troops - I am still waiting to see if the group is for real.

Unfortunately I don't think all the money and items will go to where they are most desperately needed.

And no, I am not a heartless person as we give to a lot of local charities - I just want to make sure that the right people are being helped.
