I know other timeshare/vacation club developers have done this, and I think if disney did, they would sell quite a bit....

I've stayed at an offsite TS, and then at the end of the trip was offered to buy into the TS, and the developer would take the money I spent that week renting and use it as my down payment.

Now that would be nice, imagine staying at Disney (lets say CSR), and you spend $1,500 for the week for the room, and then disney offers to use that same $1,5000 as your down payment into DVC. I am sure anyone on the DVC fence would jump on that offer.....

If they had trouble selling DVC they could use your idea. But since they don't, they won't. :woohoo:

Didn't Disney do something like that at one time? :confused3 I seem to remember being able to get a credit for part of your vacation costs to be used towards DVC ownership (this was in the 90's, IIRC).

I believe you are right. As I recall, before we purchased DVC, we were provided this partial credit option at OKW. We were staying at the GF. (If not, please forgive my wishful thinking - fuzzy memory)

Yes, that was a sales promo at one time. There have been many sales promos through the years...free park passes, friends and familiy, per point "discounts" and developers points.

The problem I see with the credit for your current Disney vacation is that it limits the promotion ONLY to those currently on-site...and DVC may be trying to broaden their sales promos to all potential buyers, both on-site and off-site.

More or less this is what happened when bought last year at SSR. I believe we got $1500 off our contract and got 150 points for that year, plus another 150 for our use year? You might just watch how the incentives go for AKL?

When we bought our OKW points in 1997, we were able to use a portion of the cost of our Polynesian stay towards the cost of the points.

Our first trip to DW was at BWV, just renting through CRO. While we were there they had this promotion and at the time I just didn't have the money to pull off the purchase.

Been kicking myself ever since!

DVC ran that promotion for several years - it was basically a credit if $10 per point for the number of points purchased ... BUT ... you also had to give up your first year's points.

Since then, similar incentives have been created, including the current $8 credit per point (but no loss of points). There are have been several other variations over the years.
