Just my opinion on the THV

Interesting! I had no idea Disney considered opening the THV as it's own resort. I can see how it was easier (and no doubt less $$) to make them an addition to SSR, and I think they are a unique part of that resort.

But for Disney to increase pts to even out demand does seem unnecessary when BWV standard rooms no doubt are INCREDIBLY high demand during peak periods. I know they lowered them after the resort opened, and I think it was a great move on Disney's part. I am a big fan of the guaranteed booking categories. They give you assurance the room you want is in fact where you want it to be, and increases the value of owning pts at that specific resort to have the 11mo advantage on the popular booking categories.

Disney didn't even let the paint dry in the THV before they jacked the pt costs up. I would be unhappy had we bought SSR from Disney based on them marketing the THV as a bargain for the same pt costs as the 2BRs.

I really like SSR. We have spent a couple afternoons at the pools and I have enjoyed seeing the THV from the water ways to DTD from OKW. My kids want to stay at SSR but I have been putting off a trip there for a few reasons. First and biggest is the high pt cost of a stay compared to OKW. Knowing the location is comparable but the rooms are much lower in pts and much BIGGER at OKW makes it tough to pick SSR. Second is the lack of guaranteed booking categories. I would love to book a room in Congress Park or the Springs and know that will be the area we end up. Walking to DTD would definitely make up for smaller higher pt cost rooms.

That being said, with the new pt allocations a 2BR is the same at OKW and SSR during Dream season. Our 2014 plan is to try SSR during that time and risk the dreaded Carousel, lol. I would love to attempt the THV but not for an additional 8 to 10pts per night. All those pts and no king size bed??? I don't think so :lmao:

If I remember correctly, that was Disney's excuse for the point increase.

I don't get it, why do they care based on demand and how does increasing the required points for a stay help the owners/system when we book first come first served.

Based on demand Christmas should be the highest points and during F&W, BWV and BCV should be higher than other resorts.

Seems like they pick and choose, maybe they have other reasons.

:earsboy: Bill
The system is self leveling to a degree, meaning that only so many points can be used and that many who can't get what they want will fill in the spaces. However, there are costs to the system if things are out of balance in that it generates more calls and more supervisor interventions. In addition, they have the obligation to do so for the good of the membership as a whole. The major benefit is it helps to balance the entire years usage better and to minimize the pressure from banking/borrowing which might have to be stopped if things get too far out. From a member standpoint I can't see a valid complaint if they do it for demand reasons.

Well we wanted to stay there something fierce, 6-8 of us (1/2 kids). Having your own little treehouse in the woods, your own BBQ grill, the bunk beds! I waitisted 3 times without luck!

Now, it's not a case of novelty wearing off, we've outgrown them, the boys (usually 3-4 who vacation with my son, all 16yrs old, avg. 6'2"/6'3"-160 to 235 lbs), no longer fit in those bunk beds! And guess what, I'm not sleeping in them either!

The bunk beds were more comfortable than the Fred Flintstone, hard as a rock mattress that was in our master bedroom. I know because I gave up the master and went and slept in the lower bunk to at least get some sleep.

This is interesting to read, because I did develop back pains on our last stay and I wonder if that was the reason. Our grandkids loved the bunk beds, so that wouldn't have been an option for me, anyway.

I really loved the fact that it was a stand alone villa, like a beach cottage! It was when the point costs for different options than a standard view 2 bedroom came up the other day, a 2 bedroom pool/garden view at BWV was 247 points, and that was not available, BUT a THV was available for 258 points. I would have had the points to borrow, but I didn't.

I do think that DVC is asking for too much for the THVs, I understand some will disagree!

I think we are in the minority, but we did not care for the THVs. We spent two nights, and it was before the point increase, so the points were not a factor. I think they did a nice job with them, but it just isn't for us--maybe that will change when/if we ever get some grandkids.

Do you think a 235 6'3", 16 year old teenager would fit in them? We've always wanted to try them!
