After many years of consideration, we finally joined DVC!

I'm very happy with SSR because our favorite memories are of the Treehouse & Vacation Villas, we love to boat & fish in the lake/canals, and love DownTown Disney/Pleasure Island.

We originally bought 300 pts, but are ready to add 100 more before the SSR cost goes up.

After researching this site over the weekend, I started to have misgivings about purchasing only one home resort, but I really like the idea of having one contract & use year for simplicity sake.

In answer to the question, where do we want to stay most, I still say SSR, but we'd like to visit the BCV/BWV & WLV on occasion too.

We prefer to travel off season (Sept/Oct or Jan/Feb) - our 4 daughters are 29 - 19, two married & two in college and one darling 20 mo old. grandson (with more to come we hope!). My husband & I like to get away by ourselves for a 4-5 day stay and then hope to bring the family for a week too. Our use year is August.

My question is with regard to the 7 mo resv for the other resorts - do we have a chance? or will we usually encounter a waitlist?

Also, how many of you have made last minute resv under say 4 mos and had any luck with getting your home resort or other first choice?

Thanks for your thoughts :D

We usually plan farther ahead, but we have also added on a day here and there last minute, so it certainly is not impossible. Octover, December and holiday times are the hardest.

Congratulations and welcome home!

We own 230 pts at BWV, 100 at VB and 100 at SSR and are always thinking of adding on.

In answer to your question, we always book our home resort BWV first and then at the 7 month window, call to change so we can try all the different resorts. So far, we have not had any problems (we usually go to WDW in late August and to HHI in February). Never had to waitlist. If you travel off-season, you shouldn't have a rpoblem trying teh other resorts.

Enjoy!

Welcome Home! Yes the add-on is addictive!

I guess for your question, it depends on what time of year you are looking at going. If it's a peak time you may encounter a waitlist or sometimes at 4 months very limited options.

I always look at it as DVC really doesn't have a "bad" place to Get stuck! A bad day in Disney is better than a good day at work. So you waitlist, sometime you get lucky, sometimes you don't!

I just did for BWV, originally booked OKW (in Feb for an April stay) (because that was all that was available), fine with us we love OKW, but waitlisted to BWV & BCV to be closer in location! BWV came through so I took us off the waitlist!

You never know,

If you go in September and January you should have no trouble at the 7 month window-DVC gets busy in October and in the winter from about the 2nd week in February it is busy until the end of April. The tree houses are still there, but to the best of my knowledge they are no longer rented out. SSr is near where the vacation villas used to be right near the lake. You should enjoy that area if you like the DD area and the lake.

I'm sure that once we get a few reservations made that I'll feel more comfortable about all of this.

One daughter is a little disappointed not to have the BCV as a home resort and wants to be sure that we can spend some time there too!

I agree about Disney, we're just so excited to be starting our "next generation" of visits as DVC members

we are only dvc since 4/03, did 2 small add-ons through dvc in dec 03, home resort is bcv, due to some financial luck we are now adding on again, we are currently waiting out rofr on 230 at okw and 240 at bwv, if we get both it will be 3 resorts, 3 use years, a little more work to track and plan but it's manageable, there are 2 very good free tracking and planning programs available, i have both, we bought bcv because of location, but bcv add-ons hard to find, a resale just last week went in 12 minutes, i got e-mail about it and it was gone when i called 2 hrs later, i called ms about something friday and they said there were a number of 1 bdr available last week of oct and also during our planned dec trip, i'm semiretired so we travel at off times, always go 1 week during early dec for radp/mousefest gatherings and decorations, so my plan in acquiring okw points was to have available to allow upgrade to 1 bdr at bcv whenever possible, i'll book a studio and upgrade right at 7 month window, if not i'll make an extra trip to use okw points, if 1 bdr is good for your needs consider boardwalk resale, buy enough points to cover this, if you can get same use year fine, makes tracking easier, but if not it's still better than having to wait out 7 month/waitlist just my opinion

Hi again, just "talked to you" on another thread! We booked our Vero stay in October, and we have a 2 night stay, a Sat. and Sun. night at BCV coming up in May, so we have had success booking other than our home resorts which are BWV and VWL (small 50 points, waiting for more through Disney). We've only been members since the fall.

Welcome Home! Our son graduated from Rice a few years ago, that Houston weather is steaming, we would go for parents' weekend, it would pour for about 10 minutes and then steam us all like a sauna!

Bobbi:D

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep checking those resales too!

Know what you mean about "steamy", Houston is a sauna today :)

Wishing we were in WDW :)
