Hi there! Just got off a wonderful Disney Cruise to the Baltic Sea and was happily convinced to join DVC! :cool1::banana:

While I tried to ask as many questions as I could while I was there.. I missed one and can't seem to figure it out. I'd appreciate any help or please, redirect me to another thread if this question has been asked before (and sorry if it has!):

DH and I live very close to WDW and like to make spontaneous trips. We get our new points every Feb. so our 4 months are Oct-Jan. correct? Does this mean that we cannot book and go to a DVC resort during these months since it's the rule of 4? OR, does that rule apply to "bigger things" like staying at non DVC resorts?

Sorry if that's worded in a confusing way..!

Thanks for all and any help!

You cannot book and stay at something like the Disney resorts (not DVC ones) or Adventures by Disney within 4 months of the end of your use year. It is because they need time to book your resort to pay for your reservation. It is anything that requires reservation pts vs vacation pts.

Welcome Home!

When you get your 2010 Vacation Planner, the Rule of Four is on page 14. This is what it says:

You cannot book and travel on Disney Collection (excluding Disneyland Resort hotels in California), Concierge Collection, and Adventurer Collections vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.

So you can still book at all of the DVC resorts, plus the hotels at Disneyland in California in the last four months of your use year. You're just restricted for DCL and the other exchange programs that you must book them before the last 4 months of your use year.

Great!! Thanks so much!

We live an hour away from WDW. We have gone to Downtown Disney for the day and decide to stay for the night. We called OKW front desk (it was a Sunday), booked a room with points, and checked into OKW within 15 minutes. This was within the last four months of our UY.

In addition to not applying to DVC Resorts and Disneyland resort hotels, The Rule of 4 also does not apply to World PassPort Collection ie, exchanges through RCI Co. & Buena Vista Trading Co. so these, subject to RCI's & BVT's specific trade details & particulars, can possibly be booked with DVC points as late as 48 hours before check-in date you would like but it is always best if you are thinking of an RCI or BVT option to do so as far in advance as possible so you may have best selection of availability to choose from at those participating resorts.

Best wishes planning :goodvibes
