Just Joined My Points - Any Advice?

Hi! I just joined my points and could use some advice/tips on getting started. Any good threads I should read or any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Also - how long before points are added to your account for visiting web sites? I clicked on the 6 that were available, but no points have shown up on my account yet. I'm used to milesource where they show up immediately.

Many points show up the next day. The best way to get lots of points is to do all your shopping over the net by clicking through mypoints. But, you will still have to keep on top of them, because it takes a long time for those points to be posted and they are frequently somehow "forgotten." It happens so much that I'm not sure it's completely accidental. They are good about eventually posting if you e-mail a bunch of times and send your purchase confirmations. I have gotten a lot of gift certs. which are nice, but I bet if I calculated the time it took to to earn them, I'd be disappointed. Anyway, if you have the time, good luck.

Join the hunt for Max! He's a red triangle character that shows up in different parts of the shopping section. You usually get 5 points for clicking on him, but occasionally 25 or 50! When he's active, someone usually posts it on the rewards board.

Also, you can get points for signing up for special offers. I usually look for ones that don't obligate me to future payments for something. (Like a 30 day free trial, but they charge you $xx if you don't cancel within 30 days. I'm always afraid I'll forget to cancel.) Right now you can sign up at United.com for e-mails and get 25 points and an entry into a Hawaiian vacation contest. Look under the travel center for this one. Also, under Try It Out you can download a point alert shopping software for 25 points.

BTW - My Points is the only Rewards program that I still do and I still get a $10 webcertificate every few months just by doing the My Points Mail.

One thing you can do to get the most points possible at mypoints, apart from clicking on Max the triangle guy, is to go to your profile on the site and make sure you have checked every box in the section where it asks for your interests. That will make sure they send you the most emails possible with point earning opportunities. You click on the links in the emails, and they direct you to some of the site sponsors and give you about 5 or 10 points for just visiting. They also direct you to some of the offers for points that you may not have noticed.

Mypoints is very good about sending emails from only their sponsors and not selling your email address to third parties. At least I've never had a problem.
