Just how rude can WDW guests be?

I will jump in on this one to. Nothing wrong with some family members holding a table, while others purchase food.

Even if I think they're being rude it doesn't give me the right to be rude in return.
The question is, if you're "saving" a table and you know the lines are out the door and you see a dozen groups of people frantically looking for a place to eat their meal does it make no sense to anyone that you, as the "saving party" should offer a couple of seats even if under the "until my party" arrives scenerio? Geez.
I know Disney is busy, I know the cities are busy and I know common courtesy and good manners are flying ou of the window in this country. I may be a dinosaur in this department but I will continue to use common sense and common courtesy when dealing with fellow human beings even if the majority do not.

Implying that the majority of people who sit down and wait for their food to get there are somehow making the world an unpleasant place is quite a stretch. If the lines are out the door and dozens of people are looking frantically around for a place to sit, that is the time I WANT my family sitting there waiting for me to carry out 3 trays 2 or 3 minutes later. First come first served. It is very much the norm for a family to sit and get the kids settled and silverware and napkins situated while the food is coming out. No line at Disney takes more than a few minutes to get your food. They move very quickly. If the OP didn't get a table in advance that's too bad, but it sounds like you found one eventually.
And the theory of ordering/eating without saving a table will always offer enough space for everyone, if accurate, wouldn't they post that somewhere or have someone in the dining area telling us that? Sort of like when they tell us to move to the end of the aisle in the shows?

I never thought that it seemed 'rude" at all. We defintiely are a family that does it....and I assumed that most families did it. Believe me, you would be writing a post about how my children were awful waiting in line complaining blah, blah, blah....so I am saving YOU a headache from listening to them as I find and save a table, while my DH is in line near you getting our food!!!!!

First come, first serve...I want my family to have a place to sit...We're hot and tired...Me, me, me, me, me...Never worry about anyone else. I payed my money, I have the right to hog this table for an hour and a half, screww the grandma and grandpa, heck with the family with 2 babies and a toddler, so what if that man and his daughter don't have a place to sit for 15 minutes...I got my place! Oh yeah, oink, oink, oink.

Last weekend at Animal Kingdome Sat & Sun I experienced something new and disturbing that speaks to the lack of civility, respect and courtesy that most Americans have towards each other and shows how far 'entitlement' has spread.

Just curious as to how you know they were all American?

Most people do this. I do this. My family does this. We so this because we are hot, tired, hungry and our feet hurt. We want a few minutes to sit and look at maps have a drink and try to get the kids ready to eat. We want a table to eat at as much as you do and the person in line behind you could easily be my husband bringing food. Many times at Disney we have waited for seating, this is when splitting up has been the most important. Some get the food, others wait for a table, the fact that you find this an issue almost amuses me. This is Disney, nothing is without it's requisite wait time.

Sooooo, rude people are easily amused? I'm so happy to oblige as humor is probably the best thing in life. In fact I wish I laughed as much now as I did when I was younger, but lest you get the opinion that this really bothers me let me quell your fear. I don't give a darn what people do. I see rude people on the road, at the grocery store or in Home Depot every single day. I know the rude people are out there and it amuses me how significant the self centered people, me, me, me folk think their little insignificant lives really are. Hahaha, there I made myself laugh at the oinking sounds of all the little people hogging that most desired window view table at Tusker House! What a coup!

Here's a good tip. When you have about 15 minutes to go before your Fastpass opening time, line up at the queue and block the way for legitimate FP'ers...That would probably be lots of fun.

Sammie, I don't think they were all American, but at WDW, this time of year I'm sure it's same to say that 90% were. Sorry, didn't mean to pigeon hole.

I think rude would be to keep the whole table if you don't need it but getting seats while someone waits in line is not rude at all.

Heck sometimes it can take 15-20 minutes to find a table so why wouldn't you start looking as soon as possible?

We usually have someone hold a table for us also. It makes it hard to stand in line with 3 small children-one being in a stroller. I think it would be hard on the people standing in the limited space of a line to have children and a stroller, etc taking up space. With that said, I don't have a problem sharing a table with someone. We did this at AK on our trip to WDW last spring and we met a very nice gentleman from the UK and we had a lovely chat and simply enjoyed talking!

Not to mention, most counter service places have those metal "cues" that "trap" you in. It is darn near impossible to get a stroller in and out of their (especially if you have a tray in one hand). Those lines are DEFINITELY not for families with wheelchairs or strollers.

We are a family where one of us stands in line, and the other parent, child, and stroller go to find a place to sit. I'm really sorry if others find this rude. It really is just too hard for us to manage any other way.

So all of you posters complaining about people lingering too long after their meal, what exactly is the time limit? People are on vacation at Disney, they probably don't want to shovel food in their face at lightning speed. Last time I looked there wasn't a timer at the tables. I don't think they are being rude, I think it is just making things a little inconvenient for others. Big difference. How does this make them pigs? Maybe you all need relax a little bit. Vacation is supposed to be fun! Why let stuff like this get you so worked up???

OK...This has gotten a bit out of hand (my fault, I'm sure) but seriously some of you need to really read the post. I DO NOT have a problem with a parent and lil' ones going to a table and IN FACT my kids go find us a table when the whole family is travelling but the difference is we don't send them to look for a table until we are the next group in line to order so the "saving" will only be a few short minutes and we always offer our vacant chairs to others.

Again, what happened this trip was at least half of the tables were being saved by people with family waiting in long lines meaning the tables were being tied up for, IMO, way too long when SO MANY other people were looking for a place to sit and eat. Most people do eat quickly at these places, especially small groups and I continue to find it exceedingly rude when a table is being 'saved' for 20 minutes or so before the meal can even EXPECTED to arrive.

You said that in jest but believe it or not that did indeed happen to us. They refused to move too. So we pretty much just barged through them and laughed at em when they called us names. On the way out, we were pretending to be oblivious and just talking about how it was so nice we got in the last ride before it broke and the two hours it would take to replace a brake shoe. We were overheard and the group just left and made toward splash without checking with the CM. I always wondered if they ever realized BTMR wasn't broken.

I don't think this is wrong or rude. I am not standing on line with my dh and 2 kids and assorted stuff. I am going to take the kids and search, and wait for an empty table and my dh is going to come find us with our food.

I just wanted to add in that we also do this is a family, with three little ones it is just easier. I think that you are also more likely to encounter this in greater quanity at Disney, after all how many families go their? Not to mention extended families?
If you want to talk about rude, what about the people that leave their messes on the table when they are done. I don't care if there is 1 or 10 of you, this is totally uncalled for, and they are the ones that need to grow up.

Okay but assuming that your experience was typical (20 minutes to get your food; 15 minutes to find a table) all of these "pigs" would have been holding tables for an average of 5 minutes per table - is that really so bad?

And as to the me, me, me thing....is your complaining coming from some alturistic desire to help mankind or is it because you were inconvenienced last weekend?

Oh come on now...I wasn't even really inconvenienced. I'm from the Keys, I live on Island time. Looking for a table for a few minutes was more stress than I care for but, whatever. But your math I don't get. People were holding tables for the enire 20 minutes, then eating leisurly (I assume) meaning some of these tables were being occupied for a minimus of 35 minutes. Since there are not enough tables to accomodate the constant traffic out of the food lines this certainly causes problems.

As for the me, me, me thing, I am idealistic and I hate to see society barrelling down this road to ruin. Money, selfishness and materialistic things are nice and to be sure I have my share but I do not worship the material nor idolize or respect those who do. Me, me, me is for losers.

Well our family is definitely guilty of these....as you can see by my picture we have four kids and if we wait until we have our food to find a table we will become the subject of quite a few other threads on these boards.

The "dont yell at your kids in the world thread"
The "dont lose your temper in the world thread"
The "Oh my those kids were walking all around where were their parents thread"
The "I cant believe this family spilled their drinks on my family thread"

etc

It is very difficult to find a table for six sometimes....

LOL!!! I was kind of thinking this too. If you have little ones you really have no choice but to sit them down. Unless you want them digging their hands into the buffet, running around people, touching things they aren't supposed to etc. I make my husband sit with our son while I go through fast food lines because he gets crazy around food (he is still a toddler) and if I let him into a buffet that kid would put his fingers in everything. As a family place I expect most people at Disney are thinking this same thing when they save seats.
