Just how hot is it there right now?

We go to Orlando next week. I'll be traveling with a 5 month old. Eeek! Any tips? My twins are 7 - hoping they do well as also!

I have been home for two weeks now but just wanted to chime in because I was also there at the exact same time last year and while last year was hot, I came home saying yes of course it was hot but it didn't change our plans (it was mid 90's and humid but we did okay), this year it was high 90's and humid and ohh my gosh not to be TMI but I am not the kind of person who is typically sweaty and now looking at pics I can't believe how gross I look sometimes. We definitely found ourselves slowing down a bit, for example I remember we decided to get a Dole Whip and we ate them sitting at the little tables by the carpet ride. I think we sat at those tables for more than an hour just refreshing and regrouping. I also remember we got fish and chips one evening and went and ate them at the tables outside there. We ended up sitting there (we went inside and bought a few drinks during this time as well) right through Illuminations so that was probably 90 minutes or so. We definitely did not accomplish as much as we did the year prior but we were perfectly okay with slowing down and just relaxing whenever we needed to. If you are going to wear the baby I would definitely bring a few changes of shirts if you are planning on being out for a few hours at a time. I have never seen soo many shirts with backpack stains and I can only imagine similar would happen with a baby sling/carrier.

This year I came home a little bit unsure if I will ever go back in July again where as last year I thought no problem (obviously since I did go back the exact same time a year later :)!).

It's 42 degrees in Toronto today. I can only imagine how hot it is in the States, especially the southern down south. (guessing 42 is 100+ in US speak)

Here's the current weather and upcoming forecast.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/orlando-fl/32801/weather-forecast/328169

As you can see, todays forecast high real feel temp is about 112F.

Not sure I would care to take an infant there at this time. Hopefully your stroller has a good sunshade and you have a clip on fan to attach to it. Be prepared to take the baby into a p!ace that is airconditioned at very frequent intervals, and have extra water at hand at all times. You'll need to give the child water at much more frequent intervals than normal. If she isn't wetting diapers normally, you aren't hydrating enough. And watch for signs if heat exhaustion as well. Strongly consider taking resort breaks during the afternoon, leaving your park touring for the mornings and evenings. There is an air-conditioned baby care center in each park.

We are in the midst of a typical hot summer in central FL. Expect temps to be in the mid-90s every day. Also expect thunderstorms that will last 45 minutes or so.

Expect temps to be in the 90's, but with humidity factored in to be in high 90's to low 100's. Scattered afternoon showers around 2pm that last briefly. It's nice when the showers persuade people to leave the park, but it's also way more brutal when the humidity hits you again after the rain comes.

We just got back on Wednesday, and it was hotter than our July trip last year. It would heat up & be humid by park opening each day, and midday was quite hot and sunny. I used a UV umbrella (you can find one online) to block out the worst of the sun's rays. That helped a lot.

However, after the daily late afternoon rain, the temperature would decrease from hot to warm, and after the sun lowered to the horizon, evenings were quite pleasant.

I'm a Texan and it's even hotter and brighter here than in Orlando. No humidity here, but that just lets the heat cut you like a knife. So for us, the weather was nicer at Disney World than at home.

We were there mid June last year, and this year we just returned 7/16. I found it to be exceptionally hot, and it took a toll on me (I was pushing a wheel chair). I didn't mind taking breaks (of course, I didn't mind!) but I did not like the sweat rolling off my face! IF we return in the summer, I will bring a very small waterproof cooler filled with ice cubes and frozen wash cloths. The frog togg, mister, didn't help as much as an icy wet rag (We got those on a tour).

The only time I found the weather to be enjoyable was during and after the thunderstorms!

We went last year expecting it to be horrific (end of June/early July). Temps were low 90s with a Humidex of 110 (about 55% humidity), except for one day that hit 115. It honestly wasn't that much warmer than what we deal with at home during a heat wave, so I think it depends where you're coming from. If you're used to a dry climate then I can see it being brutal. But honestly, if you're used to humidity in the summer, then I doubt it'll be that shocking. For example, where I live in Canada, our highs have been running 87-89, but the humidity has been 70-80%, which actually makes it feel just as hot as it is in Florida right now. Only we don't have the benefit of central air conditioning everywhere we turn, or a pool in our backyard. My husband likes to joke that he's one of the few Canadians that wants to go south to Florida to escape our summer, lol.

Disney is extremely well set up to handle the heat. Most of the rides and all the shops and restaurants are air conditioned, so there are many places where you can get cooled off. There are misting stations somewhere in all the parks. There are tonnes of street "bins" selling drinks that are full of ice water - feel free to reach in and grab some ice, or stick your arm in - everyone else does it, lol. In all honestly, grabbing a couple ice cubes and holding them to the inside of your wrist and on your forehead is a great way to cool yourself off due to nerve endings. The place that we did mind the heat was the World Showcase in Epcot - we were there in the afternoon, and it was truly like walking in a concrete oven - not much for shade, a ton of walking out in the open sun etc... We won't do that again.

Get a few cooling towels like Frogg Toggs, they also work great to put between you and the baby if you babywear.

Also, someone posted about giving the baby water. Babies under 6 months cannot have plain water. I would ask your pediatrician about this before you go and nurse nurse nurse if you do, or up formula Intake. Have some pedialyte on hand, if pediatrician says ok. Also, no sunscreen under 6 months but again, ask your ped, bc I would use it

You'll be fine with breaks! Good luck

This! (Pediatric nurse agreeing here). Have a magical time.

If you nurse, just be prepared that baby might be nursing more often to keep hydrated, and you'll need to drink more water than you usually would. As long as you're nursing often, keeping baby out if the sun, and taking breaks in the ac, baby will probably be fine.

I have a 3-month old and I use sunscreen on him, recommended or not. No matter how I try, his legs seem to get in the sun and it only takes a few minutes for that baby skin to burn.

Somehow I missed the part about the baby :) So, to add to the previous comment - if you are nursing it's going to be extremely crucial that you drink more fluids you do now, or you will be at a risk of dehydration. Make sure you don't just drink water either - mix it up with Gatorade or another drink with electrolytes and sugar. I would aim for 3-4L per day (when breastfeeding you're supposed to drink roughly 3L a day, and you'll definitely need more than that due to the heat). Contrary to what you think, you will not be spending all your time peeing, because you will be sweating out a lot of fluid. As for baby - a stroller with sunshade will be crucial. Dress him/her in very loose fitting light cotton clothes. You might want to get a battery operated fan that you can clip inside the stroller/carrier.

You mean 32, right ;)? It's still hot for us, I agree, but the humidity is much lower in Toronto at 31% than in Florida at 89%.

OP, I would definitely advocate taking long midday brakes to swim and being at the parks during cooler mornings and evenings with the little ones.

We just got back today from our honeymoon week! We were there last year at this same time and don't remember it being this hot at all. We made the mistake one day of not taking an afternoon break and we paid for it the next day. From then on out we made sure to really rest up from about 2pm - 6pm.

We made sure to hit rope drop and early extra magic hours every day, take a mid-afternoon break to take a cool shower and a nap in the a/c before heading back to the park at night. Most afternoons or early evenings we got a pretty nasty thunderstorm but after it was over the evenings were somewhat pleasent.

We come to Disney every summer but after this trip I'm pretty sure we will be sticking to winter and early spring, thankfully it was an adult only trip and I didn't have to worry about the kids but the heat was just so overwhelming at times.

My co-workers who work in the parking lots are having to bring extra shoes to change into on their breaks because the soles are melting on the asphalt.

I grew up in the hot and humid south-Mississippi to be exact- and in July, in Disney, it's just too dang hot for me.

A few things-I would buy one of those clip on fans for your stroller, invest in a few spray bottle fans, and don't feel bad about ducking into shops and cool, shady places to take a break. It's been awhile since we did the Park morning/mid-day break/evening park schedule, but that might be just the thing for your little one. There's something to be said for hopping into a large pool of cold water in the middle of the day before heading back to the park for a cool breezy evening. :)

I remember taking all my little ones in late August and early September, all at least once before the age of 1, and how hot it was. Just prepare and you'll have fun anyway!
