we are starting to plan next new years at wdw and will be staying at AK from Jan 1-9th no problem - we own ak so shouldn't be an issue. this will be the first trip we bring my older brother to and he's looking forward to staying at ak

but

we are thinking of flying down a few days early (bro can't get the earlier days off) and have enough points to stay somewhere else from the 28th to the first.

we really want a studio boardwalk view - how hard would it be to get it at 7 months?

is this crazy since it's the holidays? or is it at all possible since it's a studio?

we've never stayed during high season so i don't know how hard booking at 7 months would be

New Year's Eve is the single most difficult day to book BWV. I would be shocked if a BW view studio were available for all 4 days. You may find that some of the days are available and you could waitlist for the others, but for Dec. 31 there are likely to be many others ahead of you on the waitlist for a BW view studio. Pool/garden view may be available at 7 months.
Good luck!

I agree with Jean. In fact, I'd be surprised if there was a studio anywhere in a DVC resort at the 7 month mark for NYE. Studios and GVs are the first to book up. You MIGHT have luck with a 1 bedroom, but I'd be doubtful of that too.

Don't be discouraged though. While the chance of getting all 4 nights at the 7 month window is not good, it is likely you will get a night or two. Just wait list the other nights. Waiting that far out at the 7 month window, I have never had a single wait list that did not come through so far (lucky me). True, I haven't wait listed for NYE so far, but my wait lists for Easter, Thanksgiving all came through, usually very quickly (within a few weeks).

oh excellent - thanks hollis.

worse comes to worse we could always bank the points and stay at POP

or stay we boardwalk or beach club for 3 nights and check into AK a night early.

if you waitlist do you have to have the points taken out right then or do they do it when the waitlist come through.

meaning if we booked the 3 nights and wait listed the 4th do we "pay" for the 3 nights and just hope the 4th comes through but we don't have to give up the points until they do right? we've never waitlisted any room before.

i bet BLT would be impossible to get for those days.

we should have gotten more points lol

They only deduct your points when the wait list comes through. However, they do check to make sure you will have enough points before they let you wait list. For example, if you have already used up your current use year's points, they will ask you to make sure you understand if the wait list comes through, the system will automatically borrow points from your next use year. Borrowed points can not be banked. So you don't want to cancel any confirmed reservation using borrowed points.

I am mixing things here. Hope it is not too confusing.

If you are only wait listing for 1 night, you can wait list it at 2 different resorts. Each member is allowed up to 2 wait lists. 2 consecutive nights at one resort is considered 1 wait list. So, say, if the first night and the last night is not available, you will have to do 2 wait lists, one for the first night, one for the last night.

I didn't read through all the responses, so please forgive me if this is a repeat. But, when I want specific dates that I think will be hard to get at the 7 month mark, I book those dates at one of my two home resorts at the 11 month mark to be certain I've got a place to stay on those specific nights. Then when the 7 month mark comes, I call to see if any of those nights are available in the resort I originaly wanted. If so, I grab them, if not, I take heart cause I'll be in my home resort for those days anyway, it's a win win situation for us! Good luck and enjoy planning!
