Just how good is the grapefruit cake...

I had it in March 2004 on our first trip to WDW. I really loved it, but then again, I like grapefruit. However, I wouldn't try it again if we were planning on going back to the HBD. It's just too expensive considering I've heard more bad reviews than good and plenty of comments from ppl who once loved it but now say the quality and flavor have gone downhill.

The grapefruit cake is good, however it is NOT the best dessert on the menu by any stretch of the imagination. The last time we were there, we had every dessert on the menu, and just passed it around the table for everyone to share. Our favorite was the pistachio cheesecake. Also the Banana White Chocolate Toffee Tower was quite tasty. If my parents were going to bring me something back, I would request the pistachio cheesecake. Just remember though...everyones palates are different. ENJOY!

I don't even like grapefruit, but I love this cake. I've had it three times in three different years, and it's never been bitter, stale, or had chunks of grapefruit in it. Maybe it depends on who makes it. :confused3

OP, you should really try it for yourself. You might love it. It's generally one of those desserts people love or hate. Never know until you try it.

For me, it's my favorite dessert in all of WDW. :)

You can get it at Starring Rolls next door to the Brown Derby for about half the price as inside. It will be on a paper plate, of course, but it's the same cake. It won't be on display -- just ask for it.

Great tip! Thanks!

I've heard that it's better when you get your grapefruit cake to go. They've sold millions. ;)

DH and I each got a slice to go from Starring Rolls when we were there in August. Neither of us liked it well enough to get another piece in the future. It was OK, but not fabulous.

It's on my list of Disney disappointments along with skool bread (but at least that Kringla Bakery item is CHEAP).

it was ok, I didnt taste even a hint of grapfruit, it was fresh and just a nice piece of cake, if someone can get you a piece to try I would, everything in food is personall preference so what 1 person likes the next might not like it at all. Like they say "try it you might like it" :rotfl:

That's the way my grapefruit cake I made for Thanksgiving tasted. I even put in more grapefruit juice than I called for, and still nothing! It was good and fresh tasting, but not grapefruity at all!:confused3
