Just how crazy is New Year's Eve?

My kids (19 and 20) actually want to go on vacation with us over New Years! We've been debating over all these exotic places to go and can't decide -- we don't actually have many days, so many places would be too much trouble to get to for what it would be worth.

I was just sitting here at my computer, putting off work, wishing I was planning a WDW trip, and it occurred to me -- <i>What about WDW for New Years?

Two question --1) Think it's too late to book? and also, 2) Will it be really wild around there? My husband needs it to be calmer vs a mad-house if we convince him to go (he's not the fanatic the kids and I are, poor thing.)

But, I would book very soon, if I were you. Lodging and reservations depend on many things, but offsite will be much easier to obtain. If you want to stay at the Poly, I would call Disney reservations NOW.
Your kids will enjoy it tremendously, if they are like most 19 and 20 yr olds. And, the fact that they want to go with you would certainly seal my decision. Usually at that age, kids don't want to be with their parents that much.

Question two: it depends on what you mean by "wild". It will be more crowded than normal, for sure. You could leave your husband by the pool, if he wants "calm". But, except for New Year's Eve and New Year's day, the theme parks are manageable.
The kids should love the hustle and bustle.

One hint: if you go New Year's Eve to the Magic Kingdom, go early, very early. One year, we were in a long line on World Drive for well over an hour just to park. Of oourse, if you are onsite, there are no parking problems.

Another hint: try the Tropical Palms near Old Town in Kissimmee. Here is the link: http://tropicalpalmsrv.com/ It is a very calm place for your husband, if you like the outdoors. Of course, it is not deluxe, like the Poly or the other Disney resorts. Maybe a deluxe Disney resort is the only way you want to go. If so, get on that phone now.

You could try a vacation home rental nearby, since that would be calm. There are tons of them available. Try this link: http://www.floridaleisure.com/cfpma.htm to a frequent DIS poster who might give you some information about home rentals.

The main thing is to have the kids with you, isn't it? So go for it. But, don't delay.

Thanks for the info -- I've got us booked, and made sure I knew the cancellation policy in case we don't talk my husband into it:worried: !

I'm glad I went ahead, though; there wasn't much to choose from on-site. We're going to have to change rooms after the first night.

The really weird thing was trying to make New Years Eve dinner reservations -- they want $350 per person for dinner at the California Grill!:scared1: !! That better be one darned great meal! (Not that we'll find out -- I made PS at Artist's Point, instead!)

Now comes the tricky part -- the kids and I are trying to figure out how to get old dad on board -- and make it seem like it was his idea!

Next suggestion: assuming you are flying, if you don't have the airplane reservations, I would get them asap. There are some good fares available until November 4th on one of the airlines.
Changing rooms is the lesser of two evils: not going is EVIL! lol

I assume you got reservations at the Poly. If so, congratulations.

As far as New Year's Eve dinner reservations, there are just too many other great places to eat to even consider $350 per person at the California Grill, in my opinion. You could go offsite to any number of great places, renting a limo to get there, and still coming out way ahead in price. Artist Point should work.

Enjoy! Let the kids work on ole Dad. I bet he will come through, especially since the kids are willing to go with you.
