just how cold is florida in january?

this may seem like a silly question- but my husband and i will be in florida in january on vacation, and we were thinking of doing the dolphin swim at discovery cove- is it too cold then? are the tanks heated?

I went in January the past two years.

Both years, it was shorts and sweatshirts in the morning and losing the sweatshirts around or by noon. Last year, my nephew thought I was nuts wearing shorts on the last day - it was a bit chilly - but hey, in Maine I'd be wearing double layers.

No the tanks are not heated. It is kept to the temperature that the Dolphin's prefer - ocean water temperature. Even in July it was a bit chilly to get down on your knees in, even though it was HOT out. However, they will supply wet suits, which should help out a bit.

It can be quite pleasant in the morning and early afternoon - but can get very chilly in the evening.
Rainfall should not be too bad, I think it will normally be sunny but on the cool side.

January and Feb. are usually our coldest months . They have been mild for the last few years. We haven't even had a frost here on the coast. But they can be cold if a cold front gets here. This year we have gotten our first cold front already so it may be a year where the winter months are cooler. Yesterday and today the highs were in the low 70s lows in the low 50s in central Florida. In winter if a cold front makes it down we might get 30s or 40s at night and early morning and warm up by noon. Only once in a blue moon do we get days where it stays in the 30s. during winter months in a weeks time you may have changing weather 7 days. It can be warm one day and icy cold the next. ou need to pack so you have summer and winter clothes or at least clothes you can layer to stay warm if the temps do get cold.

We went to Disney the begining of Jan '05. It was actually HOT one day...I'd say 90 or so. The other days were pleasantly warm...78 or so.
