Just heard on the radio details of new US hotel scam.

The financial advisor for BBC London said that it has been reported that nasty types hang around hotel reception desks listening when people check in noting their room number. A while later they call that room from the lobby phone and say that there was a problem registering the cc details they gave to reception and could you repeat the card details.
Criminals know that tourists are usually quite tired at this time and don't hesitate to repeat their cc details.
If I got a call like this I would offer to come back to reception.
