Just graduated from nursing school...trying to plan trip!

I don't know where you are from but I do know in our area it is really tough right now for new grads. I actually worked in the hospital up until this last semester started, haven't worked since but I have a scholarship too. They have until September to find me a job or let me out of my contract but like I said previously, it's been taking on average that long to get placed. I'm not really counting on anything until September.

i'm from jacksonville, fl. i agree. it depends on where you are from. also it helps on who you know. my ED tech position i had was only because my mom knew the nurse manager of the ED. I had NO experience besides an emt certificate at the time and I got hired on the spot. I wouldn't even get an interview IMO without my mom. I went on from there to nursing school and the rest is history.

from yet another ER nurse ...congratulations and definately take that much deserved vacation before you have to start a new job

I've been a CNA for longer than I care to admit :rolleyes1 but I would love to get a Tech job for the summer. I just doubt they will hire me knowing I won't be staying..well in that position! I have a friend who is a tech in the ED now, she also graduated with me so I may ask her to put in a good word for me and see what happens. I just really want to get my foot in the ED door! :)

Lunch breaks:confused3Since when do us ER nurses get lunch breaks. I know we are allowed to pee once every 12 hours:rotfl:

Seriously, congrats! Another ER nurse chiming in, I've seen our ED techs graduate and have quite a time getting a position in a dept they have been working in for years, crazy!!! I hope that you can get a position in your current facility. And definitely tell hubby time to take that trip ASAP!!!! :thumbsup2

Haha yeah we had to do senior elective the week before graduation where we shadow a nurse for 3 12's. I remember coming home one night and saying to DH, "Omg, I don't think I used the bathroom more than once today!" Crazy!

This was me 15 yrs ago..It took me months to get a job, and when I did it was 70mins drive each way.Things are like that again. My area has a lot of nursing schools within driving distance to the hospital so we get FLOODED with new nurses looking, but we are on a budget related hiring freeze .I know one girl that graduated last year and is working retail still because she can't find a job. There is a demand for nurses in some areas, but some areas have an abundance of nurses for too few jobs because of the economy.I know of at least 10 nurses I work with that are close to retirement age, but won't leave the field because their spouse is currently unemployed, or they are workingto help their kids who are currently unemployed.

That's how it is here too unfortunately. So many nurse's that can't retire and so many graduates. This area has a lot of hospitals but not enough positions to fill. I'm hoping it doesn't take me too long. :sad2:

Just wanted to say congratulations on your graduation and welcome to the profession!

Good for you finishing nursing school. I know how happy and relieved you must feel. It's been 5 years since I graduated nursing school myself. Best place to celebrate is WDW!!!!!! Good luck in all that you do.

I read the title of this thread too quickly and thought it was a trip to celebrate a NURSERY SCHOOL graduation. I was thinking that this graduation gift thing was getting out of hand!

Congratulations on your NURSING SCHOOL graduation!
