Just got my Verizon America Plan bill from WDW.

We have the Verizon America Plan (Minnesota) 1600 minutes and have 3 phones. We just got back from spring break which was 5 nights WDW and 2 at Fort Meyers beach. Called home about 20 times, call each other about 50 times a day. Literally never worried where anyone was in the park-we just called to see where this group wanted to meet next, or for lunch, or the next ride, what time the fast pass was spitting out-should we wait a while and get a later time for that night, constantly called the room to say the chairs were filling up at the pool oh and bring my sunglasses because the clouds are breaking up etc. It was great coverage also. Anyway I got the bill the other day. Total costs above and beyond our monthly bill was ........................$0.00. We have 14 of us going in August and these will be a life saver (OK at least a time saver) and will never switch to anything else if they keep this plan.

We have Cingular Preferred Nation plan and I have used it the last few trips. It is great - no roaming, no long distance. We have the 3000 minute plan so we never worry about going over.

We used to never be able to talk with family and friends when on vacation due to calling from hotel rooms and the outrageous rates they charge. But now we use our cell phones - even for the local Orlando calls - to make PS etc. And we can keep in touch with everything that is going on at home. All at no extra charge.

I love cell phones.

We have two cell phones with Cingular and pay about $49 a month for them. How much are the family plans (3 phones) with Verizon and Cingular?

Thanks Jade1 for the info.

We also have Verizon and was wondering about coverage and charges.

Good to know that it works at WDW! We'll be there in 7 days and with a group of 11 I'm sure we'll be using the cells.

Yea they worked great, ours is quite a bit higher $99 plus the tax and everything, but I think some plans are quite a bit cheaper if you dont need so many minutes, they are camera also which has been fun, free nights and weekends and between phones and other Verizon phones, no LD etc.

jmatias, in case you dont know, make sure you do the free "s/w update" before you go, it adds all the new towers that have been turned on since your last update which includes any in FLA also.

Thanks again jade1....I'll call Verizon to make sure we are covered.

My DD had Sprint before we switched to Sprint. In Feb we took a family trip (there were 20 of us:D ) to Hawaii also my DS got married while we were there.

My dd used her cell so my in-laws (who don't travel at all) could hear the ceremony.

They said they heard everything as clear as if they were there!!!

it is amazing. we were 4500 miles from home and no extra charges and everything was so clear.

we switched to Sprint after we got back we were so pleased with thme and got a great package!!

Want to hear something odd --
our cell phones numbers and service provider are still set up for Omaha, NE.
We still don't pay over the monthly rates, unless we happen to go over our plan minutes.
We use Alltel. They are slowly moving into this area.
Only once were we charged Roaming fees. And that was while we were driving to FL (moving). I made a few (luckily) short calls in Missouri. I *assume* the roaming fees were because we really were roaming. ;)
So that may be the only catch others may find.

Does anyone know if there is a plan that covers Canada also??? We plan on going to Montreal in August with DS and his girlfriend and it would be so nice to get ahold of them if we split up.

Sorry it took so long, the update was done by calling a number and pressing "2" to update and in about one minute it said "update complete". I cant remember the number but call Verizon and they can tell you.

I am a 50 year old lady who goes to WDW solo. This past Dec. was the first time I brought a cell phone to WDW. I also have the Verizon America Plan. It was great! Before vacation, I called Verizon, just to be sure I was fully covered.
So, I was able to call my DH back home a lot more often, and I talked to my Mom more often, too.

I also double checked my bill - no extra charges.

Yes - I love cell phones, too.

Is that $49 for each phone or is that $49 for the two phones together?

And what is the plan? How many minutes, and is that free long distance and roaming?

I have Cingular as well, and am looking for a cheaper plan, but with the same stuff that we have now, or close to it. Right now I am paying $82.00 for two phones. But if I can get the same two phones for $49 that would be GREAT!

I have never paid over my plan when we go out of town and I have used it from the east coast to the west coast and along the Great Lakes, and all the way to down to Key West. And the only time I have ever lost a signal was when I was in the middle of Red Canyon Desert in NV. Cell phones are great!

Do watch for to make sure that you are not roaming. We stayed at Pop Century and I noticed that if I was deep into my room (how deep can one be in those little rooms :teeth: ) I got the roaming signal. If I moved closer to the window I was back in Verizon territory.
