I've been at this job for 3 1/2 months. I love my job. I got called in to the VP of finance's office this afternoon and was told they are keeping me until 12/15. Merry Christmas to me. They'll understand if I leave earlier though if I find something. Since I haven't been here long enough, I don't get severence or anything. I guess I'll spend sometime calling employment agencies.

Oh no!! I'm really sorry about that, especially right before Christmas. At least they let you know in advance so you can start looking. Good luck with everything!!

I was a Tech Support contractor, working at a place which although we spoke of me being hired on, decided to hire someone 'bi-lingual' and I got let go the weekend of Thanksgiving. Also "Merry Christmas to me" I was so worried.

I got the job Im at now, during the 2 weeks notice they gave me. I started the Monday after Thanksgiving.

This is THE best job I have ever had - PLUS, I'm making more money that that contract position, and the people are AMAZING AND WONDERFUL!!

So, happy thoughts - everything happens for a reason!!

Ugh been there...was told my contract was not being renewed for next school year...told in march and had to work till June under what can best be described as uncomfortable conditions. (An i was just a few weeks back from maternity leave to boot..oh and was forced to 'resign' or get no reccomendations when looking for another job..so no unemployment or severence here either)
at the time it was the worst thing to ever happen..but now i think it was a blessing as I have found a new path and place and am happier than i have been in YEARS!

I went through that about six yrs ago and it led me to a better job with better hours making more money and I heard the person who laid me off was "down sized". Truly,what goes around will come around.

This is a tough time of year to be looking. Stay as long as you can (benefits, pay, etc.) and stick it out. You never know, things may change.

I am so sorry. Companies always seem to pick the holidays to lay off people. DH was laid off 2 years ago at the same time of year. He did find something better. I hope you find something even better. Take care.

It happened to me a few years ago. Stings I know, but it did open doors for me. It will happen to you as well.
