We decided to go down to Disneyland for a quick weekend adventure! We just returned from WDW and the Disney Cruise on the 10th of November but it was not decorated for Christmas and our annual passes expire on Dec. 6th so we thought we would head down and enjoy the spirit of the season at Disneyland!

I tried to book a room at one of the resorts and they were sold out at the Grand Califonian and Paradise Pier. They had one room available at the Disneyland Hotel for $330 for the one night. I passed on that and went to see what I could get across the street. A little background on this.....we go at least twice a year since 1997 and my DS who is 7 is a snob in the hotel department. He prefers the GCA and even makes comments when we stay at the Disneyland Hotel but this was a surprise trip so I thought we are only going to be staying one night. I looked online and found the Tropicana for $73 with fees and taxes...no problem there so I booked. My DS figured out the surprise when we picked up Grandma( a complete Disneyland fantatic!) at 2:30 in the am! We arrived at little before 8 am and our room was not available so we parked the car and headed off to the park. Our friends were meeting us so we at breakfast at the Carnation Cafe and shopped until they arrived. The kids were surprised to see each other and happy to spend time in their favorite place.

We had a great time looking at all the decorations and riding the Haunted Mansion Holiday! I think we went on just about everything and a few moments of being worried when the fireworks were a possible cancellation. We waited on Main Street to see the castle and the snow. The winds were pretty high and the fireworks were probably great near New Orleans Square because that's where it looked like they were going off. The wind blew much of the snow away before it came down on the crowd on Main Street but it was still wonderful and magical to be celebrating Christmas at the happiest place on earth!

The Tropicana was fine for the night. The room was very HOT and we turned on the air condtioning trying to cool it down. Our friends had to do the same in their room which was on the other side of the hotel so maybe they like to keep it warm there.

If anyone has any questions ask away......

Judy-

I think it is about the same maybe a longer walk to the DLH if you are staying at the Bonita Tower. The Tropicana is a very short walk to the crosswalk and then into the dropoff/shuttle area. The walk to the gate this time took about 5 minutes. I think the walk to the DLH is probably more exciting....you can look at the stores etc. in Downtown Disney.

thanks for the reply, the reason I ask is the last time we were there we stayed at PP, and by the time I pushed my way through the loud and somewhat disorderly teenagers congrgated at the stage at the end of DT, my Disney mood was sorely effected ! I told my Dh that in the future I would stay at GCH or on Harbor because the walk back is quick and still mostly Disneyish.

I wondered if anyone else felt the same way.
