I just got back from Fort Wilderness Campground and can answer questions you might have. We had two cabins right across from each other in the 2800 loop. Each cabin had a handicap guest in it. Although my Mom and sister can walk around just have to have a scooter for extensive walking, so the scooters were not used inside the cabin other then to park and plug in. We had a handicap cabin I am not sure if all the cabins are the same but the bathroom was huge. I took a shower in the morning and learned the hard way that the drain in the middle of the floor is for the extra water from the handicapped shower and if you leave your clothes on the floor they will be wet. And the other people in my cabin also learned that when they walked in with their stocking feet. OOPS. Also I had previously asked about hair dryers and found them to be just fine in the cabin. The refrigerator was nice and big and had an ice and water dispenser on the door.
The thing I noticed most was how big it was compared to what I thought. Even with the Murphy bed down there was plenty of room to go around the bed in the living room and the second bedroom was plenty big for 4 of us.
The things I wish it had is a bowl for salad. We had our dinners there and would make our salad in a pot. Other then that the list on www.allearsnet.com was very accurate.
I did have to ask mousekeeping to leave some towel animals they didn’t do that the first two days. When I left a note there was a little zoo on the table when we got home.
:wave2:

Thanks for posting, glad you enjoyed you trip.

The salad bowl should have been there I remember a large wooden salad bowl and matching smaller bowls when we stayed there...maybe you should have checked with the maid. Too late now.:confused3

Do you think the cabins would be large enough for 3 adults, and 2 kids ages 9 and 11?
My father is 6'4'' would the murphy bed be to small for him?
Are they comfortable?
Thanks for any replies, we are really considering the cabins, I just need some talking into it.

My Dad says that miserable Murphy bed is what made him buy DVC!!! He is also six-foot-four but he had to share with my Mom. They are both big people and I think ANY double would have been bad for them...

We love the cabins. Lots of room. Might need to put your tall man on the Murphy by himself, or in the double in the bedroom. I have been on the bottom of the bunk and was plenty comfy. :)

Is there a rate you can get for these? How is the transporation? Might look into this for Nov. with my DD her DH and my 1 year old GD!;)

We are planning on staying in a cabin next May. Do you think they'll be enough room for all of us? It'll be: Myslef, DH & DS - Ds will be 2 1/2, so he won't "count" and will sleep either in a crib or with us; My DSister and her dd- age then 9 (they can sleep together or not); my DStepmom and stepbrother who's about 16. I'm thinking my three can sleep in the Murphy bed. DSister and DNiece in the double; Step family in the bunks. Checking prices, the cabins are running about $1500 cheaper for the week than a 2-bedroom villa. I need the fridge and kitchen to cook. What do you think? Oh, and non of us are big or tall enough to make that an issue. Thanks in advance!

Yep, I see there is a rate, 144 a night till Aug. 31! Hope to get one in Nov.;)

Brandi, you'll fit, but the Murphy bed is not real big. If none of you are basketball players you'll do fine. My advice is to request loop 2100 when reserving. This loop of cabins backs up on a "real camping" loop and therefore has a "comfort station" which is bathrooms, showers and laundry. These buildings are spotless and they will offer your group an "extra bathroom." You could send the 16-year old packing every morning to shower there... When we stayed, we asked for "loop 2100 close to public bathroom as we are a large group." They put us in site 2140 and a few steps away was the Comfort Station. My Dad showered there every morning and it was convenient with the laundry close, too.

Hope this helps!

How did you find the internal and external transportation? We are camping there in July and they change the transportation so often I was wondering what to expect this trip.

Thanks

Thanks for offering to answer questions. I have been dying to try the cabins, but am having a hard time convincing the fam. Three questions for you:

1) Did you notice the cabins being very dark inside? This is one complaint I've heard.

2) Is getting around within the resort a pain? We'll have a car, but I'm not sure where you're allowed to drive.

3) How is the main pool? In pictures I've seen it looks very standard and like it might be disappointing if you're used to Disney theming.

Thanks!

The cabins are not dark inside. They are very attractive -- much nicer than I expected.

We were not impressed with the transporation set-up since you have to catch two buses to get anywhere. As far as using your car within FW goes, you can use it only minimally to get around b/c of the lack of parking most places (no parking b/c you're not supposed to be driving a car).

You're right about the pool.

Thanks so much Colleen! I'm still a little worried about the pool and transport with my almsot 3-year-old, but I think we can work it out. Thanks!

brandip22, I just had to say "GEAUX TIGERS!" We're LSU fans (DH is a grad, I went to Nicholls State) and are "training" our DDs to be fans too ... doesn't sit well with all of the GA Bulldog fans around here.

Anyway, I can let you know what I think of the cabins after our trip. DH, 2 DDs (ages 4 and 23 months at time of trip), and myself are going Sept. 25-Oct. 2. We stayed at ASMu in 2002 before DD#2 was born. I was looking for something with more privacy this time and came across the cabins.

When does this rate begin? I can't find it for my dates in June.

Thanks,
Carolyn

The $144/night was in the last round of discounts for FL Residents and APs good July 5 - Aug 31

Can you park your car at the cabins, or somewhere else?

You pull your car right up to the cabin...mini driveway for one car!

That is DH's best part of the cabins. He loves having the car right at our feet.

We also stayed in the cabins in January. We split our time using our rental, and WDW transportation. I actually did not mind the internal/external busses at all.

I did not find the cabins dark inside either, and the extra room was just wonderful. We could put our 6YO to bed in the bunk bed, and stay up chatting or just watching TV for a bit.

I also think that by eating breakfast in every morning, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners, we pretty much saved on food to make up the difference between the cabin, and just a resort room.

Also want to add that each cabin has a nice deck with a picnic table and a BBQ grill. We loved having ceral out on the deck each morning. Brandi, don't sweat Ft. Wilderness with a little one -- he'll LOVE it. We now stay in DVC rooms, which are larger and have better pools, and all my two ever ask is "when can we stay in the cabin again?" Ft. Wilderness is FUN!
