just got back from Disney Dream and wow

We went on our first and only cruise a couple of years ago on the Disney Dream. We won't try another cruise line. My husband said best vacation ever, my son keeps asking when are we going back.

Have a great time! I have spent one of my birthdays on a DCL cruise ship and it was AMAZING! I am sure your daughter will have a great time on the cruise for her birthday! Be sure to order a birthday cake that can be given to her at dinner!

We were on that sailing too! Ain't no hurricane gonna hold us back ;)

I can totally relate, while I was not on a really recent sailing my family was on a sailing that had to go around two hurricane and we had to deal with rough seas. We still loved our cruise with or without the hurricanes!

Our Member Cruise was just on the Dream and we thought the ship and crew were wonderful!

It sounds to me like you love cruising! I love DCL and sail them more than any other brand but I have had wonderful cruises with other lines as well. My advice, try them all, or all that have itineraries, activities and ships that appeal to you. It's always better to broaden your horizons :)

Thanks for posting! With all the negativity on here lately about DCL its nice to see a positive post!!!!!!

I think it's sane to be able to criticize a "product" that you are buying/going to buy. Disney cruises are a big investment (expensive). I don't see criticism as negativity but as "being smart" with the money you spend.

You will find magic anywhere, as long as you can find it in yourself. I think most people allow themselves to find it because it's Disney... But I can find magic in New York. In Boston. And there is a strong chance that I may find it on another cruiseline/on a cheaper cruise as well.

You have to keep your heart open.

[...] Just my overall feedback of our first cruise . . . .

Thanks for the positive post. We did our first cruise on the Dream as well and felt just like you. And our next cruise, on the Fantasy, exceeded our expectations just as much. We'll probably try another cruise line some day, when the kids get older, but right now we are happy with Disney. It felt like every time we saw another cruise ship, someone in my family commented that the Dream and Fantasy were so beautiful/elegant/peaceful in comparison. And I can't count the number of times the kids patiently stood in line to get their picture taken with characters that I was too old to have heard of. Strangely, for some bizarre reason that seems to defy all logic, we ended up having a really good time waiting for autographs in all those lines :-).

DCL like any line or company for that matter, will charge what people are willing to pay for the Disney unique style of cruises and excellent service and entertainment, food and classic vessels. Basically their excellent product and their vessels rarely having problems booking the ship, sometimes to total capacity.

Other lines also charge what the market will bear and that is usually much less, for a standard and different cruise, and people will not pay more. I personally question the idea cheaper is better. Paying less is not always smarter.

I feel frankly if someone doesn't feel DCL is worth the extra money, go on another line, why be unhappy, enjoy the product/cruise your looking for.

You will only find the Disney magic and Pixie dust on DCL and in Disney parks and venues. It is not where else and cannot be matched. The wonder and joy in the kids faces makes it all worth while.

Captain Gus was the captain we had on the Dream's August 24 sailing!

We were on this cruise too. (Our first as well) We waited out the rain on the ship Castaway Cay morning and went ashore after lunch. What an amazing island. Great cruise experience all around.....other than I regret all that ice cream now. Lol

yeah we went back to the ship after lunch, and then the sun came out, but by that time, we were riding the aqua duck and relaxing, and yeah me and the ice cream machine were great friends during the cruise. :)

Actually, it is "always to capacity". But the same is true for every other ship out there as well. Cruise lines do not allow ships to leave port with empty cabins even if they have to practically give them away. Capacity isn't the issue. It is: "What do they have to charge to fill the ship". I got a last minute offer to sail on DCL for a week-long cruise for $389 per person for a cruise leaving in 10 days. They weren't going to let that bed stay empty.
