Last week, my two boys (4&7), my wife and I spent 5 days in DLP. I was expecting to have a good time, but it was absolutely brilliant!!
I only found this forum a couple of days before we went, but thanks to a quick scan, found BStransports to be an excellent easy way of getting to the park.
We booked up at christmas to stay 28th May - 1st June in Hotel Cheyenne. We booked directly with Disney, but organised the flights ourselves. We used AirFrance in the end, saving £200 against the all-in price from disney, including transfers.
The hotel was great, clean rooms, nicely styled, with two bars of MM soap, which the boys loved. They dont give more during the week, but if you ask a maid nicely, she'll give you more.
We went straight into the park at 1pm (after getting up at 2am that morning!) and went onto the round park train. A bit disappointed as you cant see much of the park, but good none the less. From there we walked around the park taking in the sights. It's here that we started getting seduced by Disney! Seeing sleeping beauty's castle at the end of main street was.... magical, it's the only way to describe it. Even thinking about it know brings a little glow.
Seeing people dancing to the the character express song (pull the whistle woo! woo!) was great, and we soon joined in.
We went on star tours first off, which we enjoyed, partially since I've infected my boys with my own love of Star Wars, which I've had since I was 7. From there we just got our bearings, went on small world and decided to head back for tea, which we ate at the hotel. Good buffet, plenty of choice.
Day two!
Breakfast, a bit of a scrum, but easy to cope with. Just be polite and do to others etc! From there we walked into the park, hired a stroller and really immersed ourselves. enjoyed all the little touches, and the rides (space mountain, buzz, snow whites forest, pinochio, haunted mansion, big thunder mountain, POTC, small world and more I forget. Also enjoyed the Tarzan show, a real must see, and the candlabration 15th anniv. show. Then out for tea at billy bobs.
Day three!
Spent the day in the studios. Saw the new Cars ride being filmed with people, a bit like tea cups, and nice and slow for the little ones. Also saw crushes coaster running. Looks like it does not have any inversions or anything, as the cars are quite open, similar to thunder mountain. also saw the Moteurs action show, the parade (excellent) and went on the flying carpets and rock and roller coaster (my favourite) Boys got pictures with Sully, Mickey and Mrs Incredible! Great! Of to tea at King Ludwigs, very good.
Day four!
Back in the main park. had a fantasyland breakfast, which meant we had a chance to get on peterpans flight, which was great. also lots of chracters around for photo opportunities, although very freeform, but not very scrum like. Went on some rides again, but generally very relaxed, also did autotopia, which the boys loved, driving mom and dad around! Really enjoyed the main parade, and the lion king show. Also went to Honey I shrunk the audience, which was also good, but DO NOT GO if your have a fear of snakes. Went for tea at the rainforest cafe, which I felt was poor, sepecially for the money (109 for 4!)
Day five, last day
Back into the studios, and found that if you hire a stroller in one park, they will give you a voucher to allow hire in the other, if you go from one to the other in the same day. Wanted to get pic of boys with Donald and Daisy, but was a scrum. Shame they cant do it all the same, like with Mickey, having a que. Went and saw anamagique(sp?) which was very good. Ha d the first and only instance a que barging here, abunch of ignorant people who ignored the cast members. The parks were mainly full of english and spanish people, with a proportion of french. These people were not, but it was the people themselves who were ignorant, not the nationality. As someone said, Mickey does not love them as much! Anyway, went back and did some rides in the studios, and then went to Cafe Mickey as a treat for lunch. What a perfect ending. The place was quite, but the boys got there pictures and autographs with Mickey(as a chef), Donald, Goofy, Pluto, friar tuck, chip and dale, king john and eyeore(sp?) The boys were over the moon. The meal was also great, but the expressions on our boys faces was worth the moon!
We then went into the main park to get a last dose of Disney, and the departed. I must admit, as a 35yo gruff engineer, I had a lump in my throat at the thought of leaving the magic behind, and the great time we had as a family. My eldest was in pieces too.
Overall, it was probabley the best family holiday we have ever had, totally exhilarating, with so many little touches through out, it is impossible to remember them all, except for the overall feeling. As I said to my wife, about people going there for a honeymoon 'imagine going there loved-up, you'd probably explode!
All cast members we met were great, very helpful, nothing being to much of a problem, and always with a smile. The charcters were always great with the kids, and we saw some very special moments with other peoples kids as well as our own.
If you are undecided about going, stop thinking and do it, you wont be sorry.
We will be going back, and we will be visiting america as well. But until then, we have some fantastic memories!
