Just got an e-mail from Starwood Preferred Guests.

I asked them if I could request a King room for our reservation and they replied that since I booked through Hotwire they had no access to this reservation and that I would have to go thru Hotwire or wait until check in. I have also e-mailed the Dolphin directly and am waiting for a response. My DH and I are celebrating our 19th anniversary and would REALLY like a room with a King size bed (view doesn't matter). Any suggestions or do you all think it will be ok? We are checking in next Wednesday at around 8pm!

I would just wait till I get there and smile sweetly and ask nicely for your preference.

At this stage I think you have done all you can do. The hotel can't do anything with the reservation yet since you booked through Hotwire.

I agree, asking nicely at the desk is your best bet.

When you book through Hotwire or the other internet discounters, you'll generally get the lowest room categories. Any billing disputes or other problems will have to go through Hotwire, and these will be the first customers to be bumped in the event of overbooking... As far as any business details go, the hotel rented the room to Hotwire and not you.

This usually doesn't cause problems, but it's good to have an idea of how the hotel views your reservation so you'll have realistic expectations when you get there.

(It sounds like you'll have a great stay for your anniversary, whether the Dolphin can dig up any extra magic or not!!! Happy Anniversary!)

do the king rooms have only a king bed? is there a pullout sofa too?

I think you'll be okay. When we booked our standard room at the Dolphin, we were given the choice of a king bed or two doubles.
