New to DVC , and what do you know Disney sends me a 30 % pin code off a deluxe room. I keep telling myself that DVC is worth it !! Is DVC still cheaper than that???
On a deluxe resort room no, but on a deluxe dvc villa especially a one or two bedroom probably so.
Honestly, you will drive yourself batty trying to determine if DVC is a better deal than PIN Codes, annual pass discounts, etc.
Just keep telling yourself DVC is worth it and don't worry if it is cheaper than using a discount.
Over the length of your DVC membership it will save you money. Will it save you money right now, probably not with all the discounts Disney is offering.
I love the 1 bedrooms. Rack rate is around $500. So 30% off would be $350. Times 6 nights. That is alot to put out in one shot. That's the beauty of DVC, dues are $111 per month for my 250 points (original purchase long paid off).

For instance our upcoming vacation will be 134 (AKL 1-bd std view) which the points cost me about $7/pt ($2/pt buy-in + $5/pt MF, not exact but I want to work in round numbers) so about $1800.
But a Std view studio same time would be $2138, or $1500 @70%. Same booking in points is 67 pts @$7/pt = $469 (a 78% discount.) So when you get that 80% discount code sell your DVC points and book with the cash+code.
I compared buying DVC to a 40% off deluxe room (the more expensive rooms that sleep five, not AK or WL) and after looking at the numbers decided it was worth it to buy DVC. This was even comparing points needed for a 1BR villa to a standard hotel room. We bought resale at OKW (points go farther at that resort) and did not finance, so that helps. I calculated we would break in a little under 10 years compared to what we have been spending to stay deluxe with a 40% off discount. It is nice to just book a room without having to wait and wonder about discounts.
